a brave few choose to aid the town, running towards the smoke and fire. As they approach, they begin to see kobolds, and humans in masks looting buildings, starting fires.

Citizens of the town hide in corners, or dash towards the keep, the centre of the towns defences.

Approaching from the south, the river turns out to be shallow and slow, running across it is no problem, and the group finds itself at the edge of the chaos...

Clarice stands perfectly still, closing her eyes momentarily and muttering something under her breath. A small white cat appears directly in front of her.

"Zsa, do your best to find Uriza and keep her safe." The cat looks up at its master, blinks slowly, and then starts to scurry off using any cover it can find along the way.

Removing her sling from her belt Clarice loads a bullet into the pouch. "Where do we even start?"

Maybe start small and take care of some of these scum doing the looting.

Linston heads towards looters, when he gets in crossbow range, he lets a bolt go.

Rolls

(8) + 4 = 12

Without warning, five humans dash out from between two buildings on your left. A limping man and three young children race across the street into more shadows, and a woman carrying a round shield and a broken spear turns and faces back in the direction from which they came. Eight kobolds stream out of the alley on the family's heels and fan out around the woman, who looks determined to delay the creatures for as long as possible.

A crossbow bolt streams through the air and into the back of one of the Kobolds who is knocked prone in a spray of blood.
OOC:
you get a surprise round, everyone but Linston to act

Grim seeing the new threat of kobold, rushes to place himself between them and the villagers and begins his assult on the nearest kobold with whip and shield in hand.
OOC:

The sight of the kobolds surrounding the woman infuriates Clarice.

"Cowards!" she yells, stepping up and letting loose a bullet from her sling. Reaching into her pouch for some more ammunition she moves off to the side, trying to have some of the others obstruct the enemies’ view.
OOC:
Clarice - AC:12 HP:7

Rolls

Sling Attack and Damage - (1d20+4, 1d4+2)

1d20+4 : (5) + 4 = 9

"we need to get these children to the keep" the injured man croaks "and my husband!" shouts the woman with the spear to your approaching group.

She is doing her best to keep the kobolds at bay, but eight is too many.

Grim slides into the chaotic circle, his whip catching a kobold right across the face, snapping his neck and tossing him into the wounded kobold trying to get back to his feet killing them both.

Clarice's bullet whizzes just over everyone's heads and clatters off a nearby wall.

Elceran moves with an almost unnatural fluidity as he meets the kobolds. Arriving almost at the same instant as the bolt, he swings his staff and follows with a kick.

Rolls

Quarter Staff 2h and damage if hit - (1d20+5, 1d8+3)

1d20+5 : (14) + 5 = 19

1d8+3 : (8) + 3 = 11

Bonus action unarmed strike, damage if hit - (1d20+5, 1d4+3)

1d20+5 : (5) + 5 = 10

1d4+3 : (2) + 3 = 5

the staff strike knocks the kobold's head clear off, and the following strike sails through the empty space the head used to occupy.

Having somehow fallen into a deep sleep and being awoken, a very groggy tiefling briskly walks up from behind and wipes at his eyes. The smoke made him thought there was food. But no, there is only chaos and death.
Seeing the group, he wanders up behind, ready to tap a shoulder to inquire about what in the hells is going on. Though, seeing the situation ahead, he comes to his own conclusion.

Coming around to the side, he brings his lute up, tunes it, and clears his throat. After a few mi mo miiiii's, he strums a soothing tune and sings along.

"Kobolds, O Kobolds, please go to sleep! You've rudely awakes this bard with the chaos you wreak!"
OOC:
Casting sleep on the kobolds, trying to not get the woman in the casting.

Rolls

Sleep - (5d8)

of the five kobolds standing, four suddenly begin to slouch and wobble. The fifth wide eyed watches his remaining four comrades collapse around him.

In complete terror the last standing kobold flees into the smoky night.

The woman with the spear is in tears, dropping everything to clutch her children. "you, you...must help me get to the keep..... we can be safe there!" she points across the grassy town green at the tallest building in town.
Dec 16, 2020 12:20 am
Sure, we can help you get there he says looking at the others for agreement Though, what should we do about these 4? I mean we can kill them outright while they sleep, or leave them be. Though I wouldn't want them to wake up and end up attacking other villagers.
OOC:
Did the last Kobold that fleed provoke an opportunity attack from me? If it was within 10ft of me to begin with and it didn't disengage, he got whacked lol.
Dec 16, 2020 1:17 am
"Let them sleep." Clarice suggests as she takes a few steps past the huddled family to look at what stands between the group and the keep.

"We should keep moving and get these people safe."
Dec 16, 2020 3:17 am
The thought of killing sleeping creatures bothers him, so he nods in agreement and helps people to the keep. He puts his crossbow away and keeps staff and shield at the ready.
Dec 16, 2020 4:21 am
Elceran leans on his staff, eyeing the sleeping kobolds.
"Anyone have some rope handy?"
OOC:
I can also outrun the fleeing kobold and give him what for. But I won't.

Ty saw the kobolds appear from behind the frightened humans. The humans did not look particularly wealthy, but I guess you have to start somewhere, right? He pulled his shortbow from his back and nocked an arrow. All at once, the others around him sprang into motion. Before he knew it, four of the kobolds dropped like stones and the fifth ran in terror. Ty sighed. He put up his bow and replaced the arrow in the quiver at his hip. He ambled up to the group of humans.

"You need an escort or something",he said to the refugees before turning to the others from the caravan,"I think we can oblige them unless the rest of you want to go chasing after that...whatever it was that ran off. I'd much prefer to have some walls between me and that dragon as I'm sure these folks would as well."

Without waiting for an answer, he started helping to herd the refugees toward the keep; drawing his short sword, just in case.

Well isn't he a snappy guy, he thought, still running sleep from his face. He wasn't up much for murder, but hey, you never know who might come back for more. However, violence just wasn't in his blood.

He'll look back to the caravan, point back to it and say, "Uh, what about the caravan?"
Dec 16, 2020 11:15 am
They have guards paid to protect it. Plus, they are probably smart enough to be running the other way already.
Dec 16, 2020 12:29 pm
Elceran moves ahead to scout for further ambushes as they make their way to the keep.
