"Yes... yes I... I think so." Maia looks over at Istariel, nervously. "It's just that... losing him can be... dangerous. I... I get worried." She looks down at her feet. "I'm sorry I disturbed you all. I was just concerned for... my brother." Maia mumbles through the last words.

After a brief walk through town, you finally make it to the commander's tent. He gestures to six chairs surrounding a map table, then looks up at Istariel slightly startled. Clearly, he wasn't expecting a 7th person to be present.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I am Commander Lionheart, leader of Bravo Squadron of the King's Army. His Majesty received a missive via Sending from one Perrin Highhill late last night, detailing an attack by persons unknown on this town. His Majesty sent us here to help you defend the village, only to find that the village was destroyed, the people missing, and six, barely alive and laid out in front of the temple. Would you care to explain to me exactly what happened? The lady paladin mentioned kobolds...did the attackers use them in the initial assault as fodder?"

"No. They were the army. Well trained, well equipped. They had what appeared to be rogues, and anti-paladins. Possibly a cleric. They spoke, and worked as a unit. They were intent on finding an item that Mr. Highheel has brought to town and stored here at the temple. They were also intent on defacing as many holy symbols as possible."

"Did Father Weiryn survive? Was there any sign of him?"
Apr 19, 2016 8:38 am
Now that he is back in his disguise, Toshi doesn't feel so exposed anymore. Never mind that everyone here already knows his secret. Quite honestly, he is surprised no one here has tried to harm him for being what he is. Entirely uncharacteristic of him, he speaks up, "And Perrin. What has become of him? He was cornered by five of those things. I tried to defend him but we were overcome."

"That's...very odd. They never organize like that...not unless there's something else driving them."

He turns to Xulara and Toshi, looking back and forth between the two. "I'm afraid the six of you are the only bodies we were able to find, and you all were laid out in front of the ruins of the temple. It looks as though someone shifted through the rubble and pulled your bodies out, though how someone could move through that much rubble without leaving a trace is beyond me.

Father Weiryn and Perrin Highhill are currently missing, as is the artifact you were sent here to recover. Divination magicks from the Mage's Guild have been unsuccessful in finding them or showing us what happened here. However, we were able to locate Mr. Highhill's journal, detailing his latest expedition. This journal says that this old tomb is full of traps, and that there was evidence a few beasts had called it home, but it held the artifact, and might have clues as to what it is inside."

He stops to pull out a scroll, which he hands to Dahlia first.

"These are orders from His Majesty, asking you to go into the tomb and explore it from top to bottom. Return to the capital city, and report your findings directly to King Roland. This is top priority right now, as the Father and Mr. Highhill are dear friends of His Majesty. Find out why these beasts wanted this artifact, and maybe that will give us clues as to their next move."

"Someone saved us? After all that? How could we not have noticed someone or something with that kind of power before we were struck down?"

Maia muses out loud, then looks at Lionheart.

"They were driven by religious frenzy Commander. All of them invoked the name of Tiamat in battle. I've heard some of the creature in my studies, but this is the first time I've met an enemy who calls it an ally or master. Notably, the name comes from my studies of Hell, so I can't imagine it's a kind or loving entity."

"Tiamat...Tiamat...I'll admit, I'm not a very religious man, so I don't know much about the gods...but I can't say I've ever heard of that particular deity. I'll send that along to the Guilds, and see if any of them have ever heard anything about it. If you need any potions or extra gear before your journey, please see the quartermaster. He's repairing your weapons as we speak, and is under orders to provide you with whatever he can to help you out.
OOC:
Rolls may be made now to determine if anyone has heard anything of Tiamat before. Applicable skills are Knowledge (Religion) and Knowledge (The Planes).

Technically, Knowledge skills are trained only...however, I like to give people something if they get a decent roll with just INT.

"Quartermaster... Yes. Thanks."
OOC:

Apr 19, 2016 6:17 pm
I follow Maia out and head towards the Quartermaster.

OOC:
If Hegy has anything else she wants to say to the commander, I'll add it later. But for now, I'm going to go ahead and mvoe forward.
Everyone starts making their way to the quartermaster's tent. It is right next to what used to be the gate to enter the town, and a man with a bow can be seen leading a certain Warhorse that way, barding and legs stained with blood.

Upon arrival, the quartermaster looks up from his work on Dahlia's sword and says, "Ah, yes. There ye are! Fixed yer weapons up nicely...worked all of the dents and dings out of 'em. Commander says I'm ta give ye what ye want, within reason. Whatcha need, ladies and gents?

OOC:
I'm assuming that the certain warhorse is Arten? If so I intend to look him over thoroughly.

OOC:
You assume correctly.

Dahlia whistles and Arten comes over. She begins to check him and his armor over for damage, seeing if the horse is in need of healing and if the barding is in need of repair or replacement.
