Character Generation

Mar 30, 2021 4:06 pm
The Character sheet is here. Save a copy to your own drive or computer, then upload the link the "custom" character sheet in GP.

Use the roll 3d6 in Order rules for Character creation found in the ACKS Core Rules.

Roll up five stat blocks, pick the two you like best and make full character sheets for those two. Discard the rest.

The two characters will be your Primary and backup character. Your characters will know each other (and presumably be related or associated somehow) and your Primary will automatically start with a Will leaving all of your possessions to your backup and vice-versa. You can change this later, see post here.

AFTER a class has been chosen you may reassign stats to your prime requisites at at 2-for-1 cost, but you may not reduce any stat below 8 by doing so. More info in the core rules.

Classes can be taken from either the Core Rules or the Player's Companion. I don't have access to Heroic Fantasy or Barbarians.
[ +- ] Notes on Stats
If your primary becomes engaged in some kind of lengthy downtime, like magical experimentation, or prison, you may play with your backup in the interim.

It is always a joy (not) to go back to old-school character attributes... These guys would all have issues just being farmers and will definitely struggle at being an adventurer and will never be heroic ;) but if that is what we are to play okay.

Wow that first set looks nice but not sure which one will be your second and we are only supposed to make 5 sets not 6:

Set 1
..... Str 15 ... Con 10 ... Dex 12 ... Int 11 ... Wis 13 ... Cha 17

Set 5
..... Str 10 ... Con 09 ... Dex 16 ... Int 09 ... Wis 11 ... Cha 07

Let's give this a roll.

Set 5 certainly needs to be developed
Str 11, Dex, 10, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 14

Set 3 would probably be the other set.
Str 12, Dex 16, Con 8 (ouch), Int 12, Wis 15, Cha 11

Hey ToDream looking at the Guidelines the Order is Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Dexterity, Constitution, Charisma as found on page 16 and referenced on page 15. Thus your sets would have looked like this arranged in your slightly different order.
[ +- ] Set 1
[ +- ] Set 2
[ +- ] Set 3
[ +- ] Set 4
[ +- ] Set 5
So that makes your Set 3 a bit nicer actually

Whelp. Botched that. We'll just call that Set #1 and pretend I didn't goof it. EDIT: Also, missing a stat in Set #1, so adding in that last 3d6.

Set #1: STR 7 INT 14 WIS 12 DEX 15 CON 11 CHA 12

Set #2: STR 13 INT 8 WIS 7 DEX 17 CON 4 CHA 12

Set #3: STR 10 INT 15 WIS 10 DEX 8 CON 13 CHA 13

Sorry, moving slow as this is my first game on this board. Trying to figure all this out. Been on Rpol for over 10 years. Looks like I'll be going with the BOLDED sets.

And can I just throw out a vote for starting as Adventurer-level? I've been 1st level in these kinds of games a hundred times. ACKS is not a merciful system at all.

Where did you make these rolls -- they are all part of your modifiable post?
Apr 5, 2021 7:43 am
Apparently I'm an idiot that didn't realize we could roll in the thread. So I used the Tools tab. I do have screenshots of it. Sorry, Rpol lets the GM see rolls made by anyone in the game so wasn't sure how they transferred over. Now I know to open up the Advanced Tab for posts. I did have the tab still open so I screenshotted them. If that still makes people uncomfortable, I can reroll them.

Actually, the Order for this one is a bit different. Its

Dex
Con
Cha

I'm gonna have to be a stickler on that point for consistency's sake.

Hey I am trying to help the GM fix the Spreadsheet to make it even simpler as well as complete to this end I have discovered a couple of guidelines I was not aware of which the GM may or may not be aware of but thought I would share them just in case.

When reducing an Ability Score by 2 to raise a Class Prime Requisite these restrictions apply:
1) You can only raise a Class Prime Requisite Ability Score
2) You cannot lower any Class Prime Requisite Ability Score at all
3) You cannot lower any Ability Score below 9

Now, however, as I was scouring through the guidelines I could not find any mention of a maximum Ability Score and with the above they do not even restrict this in anyway. So if someone happened to roll an 18 and then reduced a Non-Class Prime Requisite by 2 they could raise that 18 to a 19. Did anyone see, or would anyone be interested in helping me search, to see if they in fact state that there is a maximum Ability Score or if this does not exist and I should make allowances for it. Even in DnD 1E you could take your Ability Scores above an 18 which never got capped that I am aware of until DnD 5E where they capped it at 20.

The answer i got on the ACKs official discord was that only magic can raise ability scores above 18. The ability score table only goes to 18 which was intended to imply that as the maximum.

Ah okay did you see my PM in Discord?

However this means if you roll an 18 and you have a bonus to an Ability Score you do not get it -- or do races not grant Ability Score bonuses in this version of the game.

Back in DnD1E through DnD3E you could (if lucky) start with an Ability Score above 18 and they had an extended table for Ability Scores above 18. Seems kind of weird that they would have capped this at 18. I mean okay so its capped at 18 but what happens if you use magic and take that Ability Score above 18 the table does not even cover that?

The bonuses you get from Ability Score Modifiers rarely ever tip the game balance especially in a game like this where you have a lot of low attributes. Still with Magic what is the theoretical maximum Ability Score now since we are limiting the Natural Ability Score to a maximum of 18?

Looks good Aegis, just give yourself max HP for first level though.
