This thread is to serve as a persistent repository for in-character knowledge. It's not required reading, I don't want you to feel like the game is homework. But there could be important contextual information to be found here. Of course, all characters are assumed to know this information. So if/when it comes up in play, I will also inform you at at time, of relevant knowledge.
If you're the type of player who likes doing this kind of reading, I've provided you with some introductory stuff below. You guys are welcome to post here, as the game goes on, to record notes, people, places, things, etc. that you want to remember. I will also try to update it as the game goes on.
This is a folksy saying local to the Five Lions region of Turmish. The Five Lions were, originally, a quintuplet of elven warriors from the region, who were great war heroes many hundreds of years ago. Their home-town was later named after them. There are also 5 water-falls in the region, each named after one of the elven warriors, and all visible from the town-center. So, when a local says "The Five Lions roar.", it can be a "battle cry", or a declaration of victory, or a declaration of sadness, or anger, it can even be used as a statement of foreboding... And when the spring melt comes, and the waterfalls are at their peak volume, it is said that 'The Five Lions roar.' then too. Basically, it can mean whatever is contextually appropriate, and that context can be literal or figurative, and in reference to the warriors or the waterfalls or the village.
Turmish

Turmish is a beautiful country, full of vineyards, gardens, orchards, picturesque villages, and well-tended farmland. The weather is sub-tropical and humid. And while temperatures could drop in winter months, snow was rare, instead winter would come with heavy rains. Summer months were often very hot and humid, and spring comes early, with fall bringing the only relief from humidity. Turmish is also famous for it's merchants - known to be fair and well-armed, it's mercenary warriors, and it's wizards.
The Five Lions, Region

If the plains that characterize the central swathe of Turmish is it's bread-basket, then the Five Lions Region is it's wine cask! The southern slopes of the foothills are dominated by vineyards, and orchards, and meaderies. The valleys are interspersed with farms amongst the old growth forests. And despite it's rural nature - or perhaps because of it - it is also well known for producing stalwart warriors who help feed the nations export in mercenary bands.
The Five Lions, Village

The Five Lions is a name more than 5,000 years old, the citizens will tell you with great pride. And the foothills of the Orsraun Mountains have been a cradle for civilization even longer than that! Named for 5 ancient elven war-heroes, and the 5 waterfalls that ring the valley that were named after them too (all visible from the city-center on a clear day). The village in it's current state is "only" several hundred years old. Still this community of a few hundred people is very proud of their history, their significant role in Turmish economy, and of the many other notable figures that have emerged from their humble collection of homes of the years.
