I'm still trying to get to grips in creating a character here...

No rush but there is a thread that you should read first Character Creation Guidelines further you can ask questions and propose your thoughts and I or another player can help guide you.

For instance, what kind of character do you think you might like to play -- describe it as you envision it and perhaps we can help you manifest that idea into something more solid or at least guide you towards things you might want to consider.

I've just posted in the thread with my name on it...I still don't know what to do to create a character...do I need a player handbook on hand?
Well my suggestion would be to first roll 3d6 6 times so you can (1) learn how to roll dice within Gamers Plane and (2) get the basic attributes for your character.

Then as I stated kind of outline what you think you might have fun playing when it comes to playing a character. Now in that vein having a Player's Handbook (PHB) will be useful not only during character creation but game play as well but it is not 100% required as much of those elements can be acquired piece meal upon the internet if your budget is to tight to pick up a PHB

Attributes : Roll 3d6 (choose 2) and add 6

Rolls

3d6

(653) = 14

3d6

(241) = 7

3d6

(144) = 9

3d6

(246) = 12

3d6

(642) = 12

3d6

(114) = 6

(choose 2) and add 6 And what stat I assign them to

6,5+6=17-STR
2,4+6=12-INT
4,4+6=14-WIS
4,6+6=16-DEX
6,4+6=16-CON
1,4+6=11-CHA

Hit Points : Max at 1st then take your Hit Die subtract 4 and then roll a 1d4 for each level
.....Example : Fighter gets 1d10 -- we subtract 4 = 6 then we roll 1d4+6+ConMod per level

Rolls

Rolling for HP - (1d4+6)

(4) + 6 = 10

Jul 4, 2021 4:04 pm
Total HP: 6+10+3(ConMod)= 19 HP

Character Background:Raised by Dwarves

Note your Attributes are actually just 17, 12, 14, 16, 16, 11 and you can choose to put them where you like they are not rolled in any specific order. Saying this just in case felt the attributes were to be rolled in a specific order.

Also the character starts and 3rd level so you would need to roll another set of Hit Points.

Also a Great Axe to a Dwarf would also be a Great Axe to a Dragonborn as they are both Medium sized creatures.

Nice background by the way but if you are okay with letting me tweak it a little I think I can give you a better tie into the current campaign.

mormegil says:
can I just create a character in D&D Beyond and just link it I feel the character creator there is much easier...
No as I do not have DnD Beyond but you can create a character there if you like however keep in mind that DnD Beyond does not have all the elements that I have for this game. For instance the Breath Weapon outlined for Dragonborn works differently within this game as is arguable maybe much more useful. Further the Backgrounds I have have been adjusted to reflect a more balanced and useful set of Backgrounds where taking one over another is of little difference beyond perhaps flavor and personal style.

Now once the character is created though you can simply port it over to Gamers Plane's character sheet for DnD5e.

Lastly can we keep conversations and questions about your character within this thread. There is no need to PM as you can, if you wish to keep something secret just use a Note as follows:

Ok so I've already created a character sheet...what else do I need to add in there since you have your own house rules I guess I won't b using the player's handbook I have with me now much lol
Jul 4, 2021 5:23 pm
Yes you will as most of the house rules have to do with one of two things -- character creation and surviving in the wild -- other than that pretty much all the other guidelines found within the PHB do stand combat options personality aspects which part of the reason for have been improved...

As for next steps -- I approve the character sheet so you can post as that character -- which I have done already -- then I go through and make sure you did not miss anything such as:

1) Racial Attribute Modifiers which does not look like you applied them to your character
2) What Dragonborn Sub-Race your character is which dictates the breath weapon and resistances some of which is covered within the PHB while the Breath Weapon is covered under Character Creation Guidelines and might affect your choice of the Dragonborn Sub-Race you choose.
3) What Archetype you are choosing for your fighter found within the PHB you have
4) What gear your character is going to have beyond the "Inherited" Battle Axe he is carrying covered within the PHB and expanded upon within the Character Creation Guidelines
5) What skills, tools, and languages your character is proficient in some of which is covered within the PHB under Fighter and the other covered under Character Creation Guidelines under Backgrounds
6) What Personality : Traits, Ideals, Bonds and Flaws are you going to take covered within the PHB but expanded upon in the Character Creation Guidelines.

Also reading the story has it has progressed thus far would be of use -- as you are currently with the party at the guard station and you are friends with the other PCs due to the long trip to get to Far Reach

I have already updated my Character sheet as per your advice except on the following:

1. Total AC: I don't know the AC of Heavy Hide armor which replaces the Leather Armor in the starting equipment

2. Background Features: I would like to discuss with you the possibility of creating a custom background that will reflect my
character's upbringing in a Dwarven Clan if you will allow it.

3.Clarity on HP rolls will I roll another set of dice for the other levels as well?

As for Armor and Weapons and what to spend all that extra gold you get -- go to House Rules (please read) and if you look at the contents you will see the following:
15) Armor List
16) Weapon List

Then if you scroll down to this section you will see not only the listing for all the stats for armor and their base prices but the new list of Simple Weapons and Martial Weapons and all their stats and base prices.

Further you will also find guidelines on how to modify the Armor and Weapons. Magic no longer grants bonus to hit and damage that is done with Masterwork and magic simply adds magical benefits. But there are also special materials that you can add and there are a lot of things you can do with Masterwork beyond just adding a bonus to hit and damage.

**********************************************************************

As for your Background Feature I was thinking Inheritor but I am also willing to work with you on creating a custom background. I have already changed your Native Language to Dwarven since you were not raised in a Draconic setting. Also if you check backgrounds the only thing that is not already adjustable are the Features -- as it states you get to pick any 2 Skills that are appropriate to your background -- as well as -- you get to pick either 2 Tools, 2 Languages, or 1 Tool & 1 Language.

Note unless you are a spell caster you do not start knowing how to read and write unless you choose that as a Language option and even if you are a spell caster you only get one Script which is associated with the language you use for your spells or prayers. So you start with two spoken only languages Common (aka Human) and Dwarven and from there you can choose to take Scripts and/or other Spoken Languages -- note you do not need to speak a language to know how to read/write the Script as some ancient languages may no longer be spoken as no one knows how to actually speak them.

**********************************************************************

Per the PHB Guidelines at 1st Level you get Max Hit Points -- per the Character Creation Guidelines for each level beyond first you take your Hit Die (let say d10) and subtract 4 (in this case 6) then you roll 1d4+Diff+ConMod (in this case 1d4+6+ConMod)

*sigh*...

I'm sorry...but this is all too much for me...I guess I'll just drop out of the game...I'm sorry if I took up too much of your time...I was too excited in joining a game here that I didn't that this would be complicated and quite different to what few I have learned from the PHB...you can find another player...sorry I'm just too stupid...
