The Caravan

Arphaxad looked at the sorry collection of people that was the caravan huddled together in the middle of the road. They were wet, tired, hungry and at least for him, very thirsty for ale. He was listening to the conversations of Mork and his other companions about whether to push on for three hours in the middle of a fierce storm to reach Lambor's hold or to try and wander out to find any suitable place to shelter. As it were, it seems like staying together and trying to tough out the storm is more preferable then getting stuck in the dark. With what few remaining daylight they have, they need to do something and quick.

He noticed the pack animals with them are getting a little antsy and are ready to bolt if a large wave of thunderbolts and lightning were to come by. He walked towards the half-orc with a purpose in mind. He raised his voice to be heard in the heavy downpour ''If we need to move, we've got ta do it now! I have experience with handling animals back at home and I reckon I can move these beasts to move faster so we can arrive in the village much quicker what say ye?''
OOC:
I've got proficiency in Animal Handling...so I want to make a roll to try to coax the mules, horses etc. to move faster so can I?

I don't think that requires a roll as I don't see any major way it would go wrong in. You're just helping herd them along. Having that proficiency certainly allows you to help out but a roll doesn't seem necessary here. You basically just succeed.

The rain through the forest canopy reminded Taz of a time before, one of her previous adventures where she and her friends had delved into dark and unkind woods not unlike these in search of a ruined temple. They'd survived the day with all parties intact, but it'd been a harrowing experience, full of hard lessons and moments where they'd all been uncertain of their fates.

Arphaxad moved past her, his bombastic voice talking about helping the animals along, and Taz snapped back to the present moment, realizing she'd been daydreaming for several minutes, now. She looked around at the soggy caravan, and then squinted up at the downpour from overhead.

"We can't be more than a few hours away from the village now, can we?" she guessed, moving over towards where Mork and the others were debating the preferred reaction to the storm. "If we dig in, maybe we'll make it to some warm beds by nightfall." She smiled broadly at the idea, and turned to look at the nearest caravaner, looking for agreement. "Just think! A roaring fireplace in a quaint little inn. A kindly old barkeep there to keep our tankards full, a local brew in our cups, warming our bellies!" She went on at length, painting a picture of a cozy, comfortable evening that awaited them once they reached the village, trying intentionally to engage the people around her, and to get them to buy into her excitement and share a little of it.
OOC:
Could roll Performance or Persuasion, maybe? She's just trying to motivate people and lift their spirits.

Despite the miserable conditions, the caravanners decide to keep moving, pushing ahead through the rain and thunder to make it to the warmth of town before nightfall.
With Arphaxad spurring on the animals and Taz cheering up the travelers, the final few hours pass slowly but steadily. Though every single one of the travelers is still frozen through to the bones by the time the sun dips towards the horizon and all clothes are clinging heavily and uncomfortably to the skin from being soaked through by the icy rain, the journey goes by more easily than anyone initially expected.

It is already getting dark when, not far ahead anymore, chimney smoke and the light of oil lamps and fires through windows comes into view.
Finally, the caravan has reached the forest town of Lambor's Hold...

This is the end of our prologue. That was really great, so far! I'm enjoying all your characters a lot and it seems like we have settled on a fairly good posting rate so far.

I am going to set up the next thread probably tomorrow, maybe Sunday, depending on when I find the time. In the meantime, let me know how you're feeling about the game. Do you want to continue? If someone feels like this isn't the right game for them, this might be a good point to dip out. Otherwise, let me know if you would like me to adjust something in the future. Longer posts/shorter posts/fewer posts/more posts/different posts/more of this/less of that/anything :D

Before we continue with the main part of the adventure, you may also level up your characters to Level 2.
I know, we haven't had a combat yet but it's not my fault that you used the first potential combat encounter to ward off the second potential combat :D
Don't worry, you will still get a chance to fight in this game. Just not at lvl1

Yey! congratulations everyone! we reached Lambor's Hold! Lol anyway, how do you level up? do you just add a level 2 to your character sheet? how do we roll for our new HP and other stats?

OOC:
You could add your rolls and advancements in your character thread, Mormegil. Do you know how to use the dice roller?
Enjoying it so far Bowlofspinach. My tendency is to post shorter posts than others, mostly because of time, so I hope everyone is happy with that. I'm certainly delighted with everyone's personal style.

Enjoying it so far! And honestly, I don't feel we're missing out on much with no level 1 combat. I've died to rats or a single stray arrow more than enough times already. :)

I’ve died during character generation…. That’s a Traveller joke…

I am also having a good time.
