Arphaxad tries to recall anything from his knowledge of handling animals what kind of giant beetle the ugly not-goblin is riding on.

The insect seems to be an enormously oversized dung beetle. That's far from the kind of animal Arphaxad usually handles but he recalls hearing about them as the regular sized versions of them do occasionally hang around stables. They're not particularly aggressive or combative but they are incredibly strong for their size.
Unlike the centipedes, this beetle has probably not been raised for combat but as a sort of beast of burden.

Just wanna say I'm kinda screaming in glee right now. I love beetles ^^ just imagining this cute and oversized dung beetle as a mount is awesome!

"Well, we don't really have a leader," Taz said, though she paused there and looked to Narissa, Arphaxad, Belathor, and Auras. "But we really *should* come up with a name, for situations like this," she tells them, in a lowered voice. She looks back to the newcomers, and goes on.

"I'll be glad to hear your message, and to pass it on to the people who might need to know it. But forgive me, I'm unfamiliar with your Prince, or 'the Lady'. Who are they, and what have they sent you to tell us?"
Oct 22, 2021 2:14 pm
The mayor leans in towards Taz and says: "I think they might be looking for me." Then, louder and towards the small creatures: "But yes, what is your message"

The apparent leader of the three looks between Taz and the mayor for a moment and then says: "The prince says that you have been occupying our home for long enough. We have captured a mighty beast and befriended a powerful lady of magic and if all of you have not left our forest, never to return, by the dawn after the next, we will destroy you!" Its squeaky voice rises angrily towards the end of this message. "None of you will survive!"

Narissa raises an eyebrow and looks at the three monstrous creatures. "I am confused, we just got here an yet you say this is our final warning?" She looks at Taz, "Should we not receive a first warning before our final warning?"

"Also, these people have been here for a very long time," Narissa looks at the Mayor, "more than one-hundred years no? Why has things changed? Why did you not come here and air your grievances a hundred years ago?"

She smiles at the hideous creatures her tail flicking back and forth irritably.

Ye know I know a shakedown when I see one... Arphaxad walked towards the front of the messenger trying to look intimidating by cracking his knuckles and flexing his muscles.

Now, I've had a bad day and not much to sleep and eat around here ever since you're creepy crawlies tried to take a bite of me which they found out is tough eating. I fancy myself a stew made of blue-skinned goblins like you and maybe that beetle as well right now...unless you tell us why you are doing this and who is your leader?
Oct 24, 2021 2:14 pm
"Your town has had many warnings!", the leader of the blue-skinned creatures says indignantly towards Narissa.

"Yes. Ever since we managed to get out of those horrible caves!", one of the others agrees.

The leader shushes him. Then they all grow quiet at Arphaxad's threat. They exchange some nervous glances before the rider gulps and says: "Our leader is the Prince! And we are doing this because this is our home and we have lived here for much much longer than these brief few years that the humans have been occupying this forest!"

"We're also just messengers," the one who's been shushed before quickly adds. "If you kill us, that won't stop the Prince and the Lady. They will just get even angrier!"

Caves, thinks Belathor making a mental note of the possible lead to the origin of these creatures. He keeps quiet, watching the conversation.

"Well, hold on, now," Taz interjected, a hand landing lightly on Arphaxad's forearm. She looked back towards the creatures, and donned her most sympathetic expression.

"I understand you're just the messengers, but the more you tell us, and the better we understand your situation, the higher the chances that we'll find a resolution that everyone can live with. I'm sure your Prince and his magical lady friend are fearsome, but the people of this village would be fighting for their homes. It would be a terrible fight, and there would be much harm done on both sides, I'm afraid. Wouldn't we all like to avoid that?" She let her hand drop away from the Dragonborn and instead clasped her hands in front of herself, looking from the spokesman of the goblins to the one who'd been shushed, but seemed prone to speaking.

"Won't you please tell us more of how this has come to be? Where have you all been, that you weren't here to defend your land when the villagers first showed up?"

"We were here," the shushed one replies. "But these people fought us brutally and drove us down into the caves!"

"Yes," the rider agrees. "And now we're taking our home back. You have until the dawn after the next then you all must be gone. All of you. The lady says you either all leave together or none of you leave here alive!"

"You defeated us last time but not this time!", the other one adds. "Not with the lady and the beast on our side!"

The creature's claims were troubling, and Taz turned a concerned glance towards the mayor.

"Do you know anything about this? Was there a community already living here when Lambor's Hold was established?"
Nov 1, 2021 2:32 pm
Narissa grins showing off a mouth full of razer sharp teeth, "You of course have paperwork to back up your claims? A contract or a deed?" The blue skinned tiefling looks about as people stare at her, "What? I'm part demon, we love contracts and paperwork."
Nov 1, 2021 3:36 pm
The mayor looks between Taz and the blue-skinned creatures (which includes both Narissa and the three messengers). "Well, our ancestors did fight off the creatures living here, which included fey beings. But in our stories, they didn't look like that!"

"It was us!", the rider replies eagerly. "It was us before you banished us into the evil tunnels!" He narrows his eyes looking at Narissa. "No paperwork. Nothing like that. This is our land. Always has been. Why would we have written it down?"

"We go now!", the other speaking one of the blue-skinned creatures says. "They know our ultimatum."

"Yes," the leader agrees. "Until the dawn after the next. All of you leave together. Or nobody leaves!"
Nov 2, 2021 6:38 am
The Dragonborn warrior huffed a frustrated breath after the exchange with the fey creatures. Nothing was advanced and many threats had just been slung. It's back to questioning the locals then. More specifically, those who were around when the ''forced exodus'' of these creatures was enacted. If only those people are still alive.

Mayor, do you know anyone who is still alive that can corbate--collarbait--verofy--CONFIRM what these lil buggers are saying? failing that, I guess there are some library here or old account books in your office that records such occurrence?
Nov 2, 2021 11:03 am
"Wait!" Taz interjected, hoping to get another few words in with the fey before they left. "Will your Prince talk with us?" she asked, understanding that these were mere messengers, not wielding the power in themselves to orchestrate any kind of compromise.
Nov 2, 2021 4:41 pm
Father Belathor smiles and nods at Tas' question, "smart," he mutters quietly.
Nov 2, 2021 6:12 pm
"No," the rider says firmly. "No negotiations anymore! You give us back what is ours or you all die!"

Unless any of you physically stop the three messengers, they're going to leave and return into the forest at this point.

The mayor looks at Taz. "Nobody is still alive from that time. And all our records from back then are our hero songs about how Lambor and his companions settled this region."
Nov 4, 2021 5:19 pm
"We should probably follow them." Narissa says with a quiet shrug, "They had white pebbles on their feet, that ring a bell to anyone?"

She looks about at the village, "Might want to start preparing your defences." The tiefling smirks, "Just in case."
Nov 5, 2021 8:14 am
"What defenses?", the mayor asks. "We can have Erheim make spears for us but we are not warriors like our parents and grandparents were. If it was just these things, maybe we could defend ourselves. But with all of their vermin, with this beast and the sorceress they apparently employ, we won't stand much of a chance. You might but we don't."
OOC:
Someone can roll a nature check on some of the white rock pieces that stuck to their feet that they left behind.
If you want to follow them, I'd assume you'd do it stealthily, in which case, I'll ask for a stealth check from all of you.
