"Unfortunately I do not. I fight with my staff and hands."
Dec 9, 2021 12:25 am
Producing a dagger from her cloak, Clarice offers it Riardin.

"This was my brother’s. I’ll want it back once you’ve secured a weapon of your own."
Dec 9, 2021 2:37 am
He takes the dagger with a nod of thanks.

"I will make sure to return it."

As he tucks the dagger in his belt, he notices the spear head in the ashes of the Half Dragon. Picking it up, he tests the heft with a few swings. With a shrug, he holds onto it and moves towards Clarice and the stairs.

the stairs depend down, they aren't steep, but they are long. Even dark-vision can't penetrate the gloom they descend into. Pausing at the top, you strain your eyes and ears. But it's no use. The tunnel is as dark as it is silent.

We'll get the bad rolls out of the way now ;)

"Everyone wait a moment. Let me try something with the energy Linston gave us."

Elceran pauses and closes his eyes, before taking a deep breath. A moment passes before the shadows seem to draw closer to each of them, and he opens his eyes with an exhale.

"There. That should help.

OOC:
Skallagrimm, do we need to roll for stealth now, or will you do that for us when we need it?
Dec 10, 2021 2:42 pm
OOC:
there's no hard rule. I will ask for rolls when they're important, I'll sometimes just make the rolls if it keep things moving. But at anytime you can add a roll yourself, like stealth or perception in a case like this, it's faster than waiting for me to ask, and no harm done if it isn't needed

Becoming more cautious in the dark, Riardin moves carefully.

Feeling confident after Elceran's enchantment, Clarice continues to move forward.

As long as we're not playing botch is auto fail ;)

OOC:
you would be amazed how angry that makes some players. I've had adult men quit in a huff like spoiled little kids 'cuz I hit them with a "botch"

so the only rule here is on an attack roll, a natural 1 ALWAYS misses

like a shadow that can't be seen because it's too dark, the group slowly descends the stairs. The chamber that opens at the bottom of the stairs is immense. A wide ledge runs along the left wall and drops away to a pit on the right. Many stalactites descend from the ceiling, and the sound of dripping water echoes continuously.

"Shall we keep moving?" Clarice quietly asks the others.

"Slow and steady. Those eggs are here somewhere. "

Riardin nods and adjusts his grip on the spear head....

it doesn't take long to get the "lay of the land" even though the chamber is so large. You stand on a broad, curving ridge, about 15' above the floor of the chamber. About 50' in front of you, in the center of the ridge is an odd wooden staircase. It's odd because it's completely wrapped in a sturdy looking iron cage. At the bottom, a stout gate locks the stairs up.

"Things behind locked doors are always more interesting than things not..."

Riardin walk up to investigate the stairs...
Dec 11, 2021 6:26 pm
the stairs look rickety and haphazardly built, but upon close inspection they're thick and strong. Just not.... refined. The builders knew what they were doing, just didn't waste any time straightening lines or smoothing out rough edges.

The iron cage is clearly sufficient to stop an ogre in it's tracks, none of you are going to bend one of these bars.

As he looks about, a glint of metal catches Riardin's eye. A KEY! Just dangling on a wooden peg, right near the top of the stairs.

Rolls

Riardin - Perception - (1d20+4)

(12) + 4 = 16
