Can we see the Drakes from the gate or no? If yes, how far is it?

the eggs are about 50' away from the gate. And about 3' tall. The tops of them can be seen from the gate. The drakes are lying down, so they can't be seen from the gate, but if/when they stand up they will be easily visible.

"in a game of cat-and-mouse dahling, you want me to be the mouse?" Zsa asks indignantly, before toddling off to do your bidding.

"you can't win if you're the mouse" she mutters as she goes.

She walks straight up to the self-licking drake, and swats at his head. The drake moves out of the way effortlessly before batting that cat away like a toy. She sails through the air, straight towards you. And she splats onto the hard rocks about half way between you and the now standing drake.

if the drake wins initiative, the other one will wake up immediately. Otherwise it will wake up when any noise of battle is made.

I don't think the one the cat swatted could be surprised, it's seen you. But the sleeping one, 100% suprizable

the bolts both swing high, sailing over the sleeping lizard. Clattering into the darkness behind it. A flash of light erupts as the magic misses slam into the standing drake singing and smoking it's hide.

The injured drake roars, awakening its partner.

Elceran doesn't have ranged attacks that reach that far. So he is waiting at the gate to lock it behind them.

At the bottom of the stairs

two scenes unfold at once. At the bottom of the stairs, both drakes are awake, one charges while the other rises to it's feet. (using it's action)

at the top of the stairs a shriek breaks through the dark. As four kobolds (who were supposed to be guarding the gate) are drawn back to their positions by the noise. They toss clay pots full of.... something over the edge to rain down on Clarice, Riardin, and Zsa.
