Chapter 13 - What Ramon wants

"Oh darn, that looks tough to break open," Al complains. She looks up to see if there is also barbed wire on top of the gate.

Yeah, looks pretty tight with the fencing in the way. Johnny agreed, crunching on his Hot Fries™. The thing about chain link fence is that unless they buried the bottom of it, weight be able to find a length that we can pull up and crawl under. He began at one end of the fence and scouted it's length looking for a spot that they might be able to wedge underneath.

The chain is solid and sturdy, and there are no trees on the rocky promontory.

Maybe we shoulda brought a crowbar... Johnny looked at the chain & lock before dropping it heavily. Maybe we could climb around it? Use the links to hold on but we'd probably be over the rocky drop off for part of the climb.

I'm not sure about climbing around it, but it couldn't hurt to walk around the fence and see what all we can find out. Hopefully it'll be something we can use. Elias says as he looks at the locked gates.

"I'm going to try and climb over the fence," Al announces. "I'll just be extra careful at the top with the barbed wire."

Okay, sounds like a plan. Just be careful, we don't need anybody hurt before we get started. While you're doing that, I'll walk along the fence and see what I can find. Maybe it stops at the edge and we can swing around, like Johnny suggested. Logan then starts walking along the fence line as Al prepares to start climbing.

Alana looks for the best place to climb, and tests the links to see how good a hand grip they are. She winces in pain, having forgotten her bandaged, burnt hand. The barbed wire above also looks very tricky to negotiate without getting hurt. Johnny and Logan check the far ends of the fence, where it meets the side drops of the rocky peninsula to assess what it would be like to climb around the side of the fence.
The East end is quite a sheer drop, and the fence protrudes out so they would have to be suspended on the drop for part of the climb around it.
On the West end it is a little better. The rocks are not dropping as steeply, and they could climb around the fence with some rocks underneath. However, barbed wire has been set on this West side, so it would be tricky negotiating that. From this sideways position, they can also see a metal staircase attached to the sea end of the peninsula to connect the Lighthouse to the sea level in a zig zagging ramp. This is an access point from the sea.

Logan looks at the metal staircase and follows down to the sea level. Glancing around at where he is, Logan tries to determine if there's a path down to where he could gain access to the staircase.

The metal staircase is only reachable by sea.

Al cracks her knuckles, which hurts a lot with her burned hand. Then she begins climbing...

Logan takes a deep breath and begins to carefully climb around the fence and barbed wure on the west side 9f the point. Taking his time, he sets his sights on carefully getting around to the other side.

Johnny waited until the other two were over or around the fence before he started his attempt to get around the obstacle. Flooring Logan's lead, he tried to climb around the fence at the west side.

Alana climbs like a cat up the tall fence, trying to ignore the pain in her hand. Once up there, she tries to avoid the cruel-looking spikes of the barbed wire. She tries to get past them fast rather than carefully, and shouts in pain as her arm gets too close to the barbs and gets cut. She instinctively withdraws her arm, making things worse! She clenches her teeth and painfully descends the other side of the fence.
As she touches the ground, she checks her arm and sees several long cuts, painful and bleeding.

Logan negotiates the West Side of the fence quite well, and manages to get to the other side despite the scary passage suspended over the drop to the sea below. Soon he is on the other side, and sees that Alana hurt herself.
