That goblin is wounded, sadly, not enough for a Major Wound... How about Bean?
Sep 12, 2022 10:43 pm
Though he had earned the trust of the wild dogs, Baelrick had never truly been involved with training or commanding such creatures. He had usually been content to feed them scraps from the dinner table and let them be. But these were vicious hounds, and he was their alpha. Not sure if this would work, the large man whistles to get their attention, then sweeps his hands towards the open room and yells, "Get'em!" In the back of his mind, he hopes that they will listen, and that they will have learned in the past few moments that the non-green skinned individuals were not to be 'got'.
OOC:
Nature Lore is the closest I could find for this. It involves training wild animals if your skill is high enough, which his is not.

Oh, so close!!!

Rolls

Nature Lore: 28% - (1d100)

(31) = 31

Sep 12, 2022 11:40 pm
The hounds seem to be about to jump at the goblins, but a moment of hesitation from them made Baelrick realize that they wanted to play and that Baelrick was probably just pretending to throw something... Also, it suddenly occurs to Baelrick that the greenskins probably did not used the order "Get them!" in Mannish (or maybe even Elvish for that matter...).
OOC:
They are definitely excited now though, and their training is bound to kick in eventually. I'll give you a +25% next round, unless someone else attempts to help you in the meantime.

While the hounds are confused by the happenings around them, Bean quickly weaves between other canines to leap at the goblin Peli is fighting, viciously biting at the opponent's ankles.

Bean - Bite - Combat: 40% - (1d100)

(37) = 37

Bean - Bite - Damage - (1d6)

(5) = 5

Bean is not a big dog, but the goblins are also small targets. Bean leaps true at the wounded goblin, biting its leg and tearing out its femoral artery. The goblin lets a shriek of pain and is quickly exsanguinated, falling in a heap on the floor...

Thallan remains behind, knowing his bow was of little use in these cramped caves. They work well at point blank, which he reassures the captive goblin with an arrow to its back.

First round of combat.

Combat Order (DEX+INT)/2
Baelrick: 16
Tyr: 15
Peli: 14
Goblin: 14
Orc: 13
Thallan: 13
Daglin: 12
Guard Dogs: 9

Combat Map Tyr and Baelrick have a light source each, allowing you to see deeper into the cave and alleviating some darkness penalties (p.31 and p.56)

Feeling a little exasperated that the dogs seemed to get excited instead of bloodthirsty, Baelrick wracks his mind trying to piece together the Goblin word for "attack". It couldn't be that hard to figure out, right?

Not only does he realize that he has no clue what the word might be, but he also develops a small migraine from the mental effort. Oh, if only he had studied the language of the goblinoids! Once more, he urges the hounds on using the same phrasing as before, though he attempts to sound more urgent and angry this time.

Oh no, that's a critical failure. Well, this roll is going to take precedence over your Nature Lore roll, sorry...
Baelrick searches for the Orcish word for "attack", and finally thinks he's found it: "glabesh!". Excited, Baelrick shouts "Glabesh! Glabesh!" while pointing at the goblins. The dogs look at each other a bit confused for a moment, before sitting and howling. The howls star reverberating throughout the complex. This will most likely attract attention, so much for a surprise attack... Wow, who would have that thought those greenskins would have actually took the time to teach their dogs some tricks other than guarding and attacking... It might be a good idea to tell the others to hurry and finish up.

Baerick gulps as he accidently alerts the entirety of the cave to the presence of something. Given the supposed nature of the trick, it was likely that the idea of intruders was echoing across the stone walls.

Tyr is up next!
Sep 19, 2022 11:19 pm
Tyr just shrugs and opens the door to the next room.
Sep 19, 2022 11:51 pm
OOC:
There are still two goblins left alive, but okay...
Tyr opens the door and sees what looks like a long cell block. The room is so long that it is lost in darkness...

Unless Tyr has anything else to do, then Peli is up next!
Sep 20, 2022 12:56 am
Peli is briefly distracted by a sudden canine concert happening behind her and even looks back over her shoulder in genuine curiosity, but then decides to question it later and focus on the immediate threat of goblins for now. Together with Bean, she charges at the next goblin with another combat cry, scimitar aiming at the opponent's arms while her dog friend tries to bite the goblin's side.

Rolls

Scimitar - Close Combat: 53% - (1d100)

(42) = 42

Scimitar - Damage - (1d8-1d4)

(2) - (2) = 0

Bean - Bite - Combat: 40% - (1d100)

(26) = 26

Bean - Bite - Damage - (1d6)

(3) = 3

Sep 20, 2022 1:24 pm
OOC:
Hmm, there doesn't seem to be any sort of minimum damage rule, so I guess you can inflict 0 damage... Of course, the goblin has no idea that Peli's attack will score no damage, so he'll still take his one reaction to attempt to dodge it...
The goblin manages to dodge Peli's attack while Bean is starting to chew at its ankle. It lets out a shriek of pain and anger.

Speaking of goblins, it's their turn. They'll start shouting bloody treason, grabbing their spear and attack. One goblin will attack Daglin, while the other will attack Bean as its the one who damaged it... Hmm, while both attacks hit, both fail to produce any significant damage, you may still roll your dodges/parries if you want to roleplay your ignorance of the results, but either way, let's move along, shall we?

Thallan is up next!

'If they don't start behaving right away, I may have to go smite some goblins with my own staff! Damned hounds, listen!'

For hopefully the last time, Baelrick raises his hands up to urge the hounds forward! He barks out the command in the common tongue, "Attack!" They would have to learn his commands sooner or later. Finally, they seethe forward in a rolling tangle of bark and bite, crawling over goblin and orc in an attempt to please their master!
OOC:
Hounds 1 and 2 are on the goblin Daglin is fighting, and 3 and 4 are on the other one.
