I thought a bit, and came up with the name "Gwen" and then searched for posible avatars. These the current contenters




And her master. He might be dancing on the edge of the law about not swimming aginst time. Properly not walking the straight and narrow. Why is he training her? Perhaps some family connection. Gwen could be is his niece

Ok then what do you see as the main problem for becoming a good apprentice wizard ?

I recently red a book where the protagonist was a bored genius. She never advanced as 90% of her studies were boring, the fellow students stupid and slow. So she dropped out of the academy and had an easy life as a cabdriver.

While I don't wanna go all the way to genius, I thought that Gwen would be easily bored.

Ok, how do you see it play in the game, I do not see it very well.

Perhaps something about her being scared to fully let loose of her magical talents.
Where Harry is tempted by power, she is intimate by it. Being extra careful with her spell craft.

Or she is intimidated by the supernatural rules. Triple checking her spell work against the laws of magic

Trouble: I must be correct
I must make the right call or not at all. Gwen never gambles or chance it when "Being right" is on the line. So she will study or consult to get the right answer to her conundrum. She was initially left to her own devices, and when it was know she summoned creatures from the Nevernever to answer questions, she was sent to her current mentor.

So how old are you ?
How was your youth ? What aspect can we derive from your youth ?

Gwen is in her early 20's I think. Feet in the water, apprentice wizard, she is not fully grown up yet

Her she spend her youth ad her grandmother as her parents did not have any magic at all, so they were not equipt to handle her newfound abilities. Her grandmother gave her a few lessons and access to her library but otherwise left Gwen alone. That is now Gwen came to summon creatures from the Nevernever to answer the questions her grandmother's library could answer.
Who is her grandmother? Someone high up on the white council, someone too busy with the council business to handle Gwen's training. When her grandmother had to handle the fallout from Gwens last summoning she passed Gwen on to her current master.

It seems the background aspect could be in relation with Gramma, or something on Parent.

Half trained by a White Council diplomat That is her grandmother aspect. It will allow her to interact with nevernever in diplomatic ways. But she is only half-trained, there should be ample opportunity to compel that aspect as well.

For a youth aspect I would rather have something else, since you are certainly get another aspect about your current master. Mau be something more on feelings or sense of belonging.

I was thinking the next ones should cover that, but no problem.

A defining characteristic would be the lack of belonging, and the need to belong. She has been passed around, from parents that could cope, to a grandmother who didn't have time, and now a master who, when you get down to it, doesn't really want her around.

Something like "Doesn't Trust easily", "Once burn, Twice shy", "In search of a Family", "Poor lonely girl" ...

I am adding a biography information on Character's sheet, and it occured to me I did not understand this story of Gwen fallout.

What did she do exactly and why ?

One of the others is making a knight of the fay court right? Let us bind these characters together a bit and say that she summoned a creature of the court, and bound it in a circle. There it stayed for a while answered a lot of her questions (they can't lie, only omit truth). But this creature was missed by the queen and the knight was sent to fetch it.
Gwen grandmother salvaged the diplomatic incident between the fay court and the white council, but afterwards, Gwen needed a more supervised education.

So far he wants to, it will be during the story that he becomes one, same thing for the one who wants to be a Red Court Vampire, there is just not enough points at the beginning of the adventure.

Then he is an emesary of the fay court then. Has the connections, but not the mantel. A squire :D

Non not yet, he is a simple mortal, he doesn't even have the connections yet, not interesting enough for now for the Fay folks.

Are you sure that looking for a family is not a better aspect for the What Shaped You? (Rising Conflict)? And

Where the last one we talked about, the Half trained by a diplomat is fitting for the Where Did You Come From? (Background)

I am sure of nothing, it is your character, and I am very junior at Fate.

I would think you're rising conflict would be more along the line of resisting the temptation of killing someone to eat his feeling.

And that would complete the history part for your character, for you obviously are young. How old are you ?

She needs a grounding in the mundane world. Her What Shaped You? (Rising Conflict), should be something about her ending up in Atlanta. She tried to go to an amusement park, but the rides failed as things do around wizards. She also fowled up a movie theatre. Its hard to find friends when you cant share common experiences. So what is shaping her is the world and limitations of her craft on her social life. So something about being experimental, trying to find friends in areas where technology (from after the 1940's) is not overly sensitive.

Is there something in Atlanta where she could find such things? Theatres? Steampunk enthusiasts :)

I will think of area, as for a link this will be a Dresden's special group where people come to speak about not ordinary experiences.

Nope! Puppets freaks her out. Anything even close to the uncanny valley gets her riled up. Didn't know that about Gwen before you mentioned it

Back to what shaped Gwen. Conformity, finding the balance between altering herself to please others (and thus hanging out with them) and staying true to herself, her integrity, and her wizardry. Can we come up with a good aspect for that? Idears?

Everyone like a good show We will go with that. We also need to get the game going. May I suggest that we do the city creation in game. We need to get this game off the ground soon, or it will lose momentum and grind to a halt.

She is 22 years old. She is studying with her master, who lives in an elder browstone building. She studies with him several houres a day, and in the rest of her time she is working as a lifeguard at an indoor pool. (that just came to me)

Where Herry Dresden could listen, she has active peripheral vision. Normal folks see what is directly in front of them, but she is fantastic at spotting irregular movement in the corner of her eye. Usually, that is kids cramping up and having trouble

You sure about the skills ? The ladder was only as an example if you prefer you can do a 2-Great, 2-Good, 2-Fair, 2-Avaerage as another player did. or another setup for 20 points.
