When making a character, try to connect to the following questions to make the character a part of this world.

What is your social class and clan?
Is your family part of the nobility or the working class?
Do you want to change your status?
Are you an active member of your clan or have you left it behind?
Do you have a special role in the city’s hierarchies?
Are you a member of the royalty?
Did you or do you hope to pass the Test of Ascension and become a magistrate?
Are you an arbiter who deals with spirits?

So we will be natives of Yeonido for this one shot?
Jul 31, 2022 8:59 pm
Yes, that would be the best way for a oneshot and to get the Eastern vibe
Jul 31, 2022 9:04 pm
Cool. Just confirming.
Jul 31, 2022 9:45 pm
Is there any race or class limitations you don't want us to use from those books? Or will that not matter?

Fell free to pick any race or class from the listed books, multiclass if you like.
The College of Glamour Bard is the only one I find tricky as it has a very complex reaction based ability that might not work too well in a PBP game.

I'm looking at either playing a Battle Master fighter, or some kind of monk (most likely Way of the Open Hand, or Drunken Master). I'll have a good think about those setting-connection questions. I'd love to hear what everyone else is thinking too!
Aug 1, 2022 4:52 pm
I don’t think he’s signed on yet, but the friend I tagged in and I were going to make a pair of twin elves. Xerxes is a male warlock and Xestria is a female Monk (kensai) with a big hammer.

DM do you want us to post character sheets here when done?
Aug 1, 2022 4:54 pm
I'm currently playing around with a Dragonborn Paladin concept; maybe make him a protector of his clan. Still thinking through how to fully connect him to the lore.

When you have a character sheet completed you can link them to the game by this link

https://gamersplane.com/games/3672/

That easily allows you to post as your character and to make dice rolls straight from the sheet.
Aug 1, 2022 5:36 pm
Sorry - newb question. How do I link the character to the game?

I have a D&D Beyond link and also added stats to the character section of this site. Just don't know how to link.

Step 3 of the New GP Members' Guide tells you how to create a Gamers' Plane character sheet.

After you've created the sheet you can Submit it to this game using the link Cettish posted above, or the Game Details link which you'll find at the bottom of this page.

I believe there's a way to import your D&D Beyond sheet. I'll have a look around the threads if I can find it.

I was able to find it. Needed to go into the main game page. I was on the forum list. Thanks for the help!

I’m all submitted.

For inter party discussion, Xestria is a high elf kensai monk. She has pale white skin and white hair with silver highlights. Her eyes are hazel flecked with gold. She’s a haughty elf who thinks she’s better than everyone else (with the possible exception of her brother, though she probably thinks she’s better than him as well). As twins she’s very close with her brother. Maybe too close? Maybe it’s an elf thing!

As her kensai weapons, Xestria wields a huge war hammer, a longbow, and a whip.

I see her sheet.

Just approved her.

Haha fair enough. Thanks. Looking forward to playing. And if Xestria is mean to anyone, I promise it’s not personal.

Yong is a dragonborn beggar and drunkard. Rumor has it his broken horn is from when he was kicked out of his clan. Others claim he was once an arbiter but has had his brain addled by drink and a horrific encounter with a rogue gwishin.

Mechanically he is a Way of the Open Hand monk.

@Cettish,

I’m almost done with my character. For the magical item, is there a table you want us to pick from? Use our imagination? Or something else?
Aug 2, 2022 5:15 am
Same question as GreaseWizard.

I'll probably have my sheet done by tonight.
Aug 2, 2022 5:49 am
This is a list of magic items
You can pick any one uncommon from it.
You can filter

Aug 2, 2022 11:44 am
Will you allow Amulet of the Drunkard for Yong?
Aug 2, 2022 5:50 pm
Oh didn't know that item. That is a good way of drinking!
yeah. Seems fine to me.
Aug 2, 2022 11:58 pm
Submitted my character. I included a link to the D&D Beyond sheet I copied from in the notes. Hopefully I filled everything out correctly; I was feeling kind of rusty.
Aug 3, 2022 3:32 am
Hey - sorry for the delay! Poking around with Light Cleric at the moment. Hopefully I can finish up tonight otherwise I'll finish details tomorrow.
Aug 3, 2022 7:50 pm
At this moment there are two characters approved.

@slogworx : could you please add a bit more of your choices to your sheet? Atm I only see your class, level and stats.
How about subclass, spells, feats (if you picked any), equipment?

I'll try to work on it later this evening. I'm going to do ancient one, pact of the chain (pseudo-dragon). No feats planned, and just standard equipment so far. I need to look over the magical items and will add my spells and cantrips.

Might tweak it slightly and update it. I kind of half-assed when I was tired last night.

Alright, I think I got everything added. I do have warlock class features that I added under feats when they weren't just "cast X at will." No extra feats. I took ability points instead.
Aug 4, 2022 6:56 am
Ok, looks good.

Waiting for @Jabes.plays.RPG to complete their character and then we can hopefully start soon.
Aug 4, 2022 7:23 am
So sorry for the d3lay! I'll get it done today.

Everyone has submitted their characters.
I shall put up an opening post in a next few hours when I get back from work.

Looking forward to it!

Avatar check.

Why is it that I can see some player's character sheets but not others? Specifically, I can see Jabes' and Spartachris' sheets but not Zolinn's or slogworx?

I’ve tried logging out and logging back in and that didn’t do anything.

Nevermind, I figured out players have to click the book on their character in the character dashboard. Whoops.

I'm loving the party dynamics already! Can't wait to see Zolinn introduce Ji-Eun!

Hey all, I've done a bit of PBP D&D and text based RP in the past, but I'm not familiar with the conventions within this platform/community. When we have to roll for things, can we just roll real dice and give the details?
Aug 6, 2022 3:14 am
That's entirely up to Cettish how they like to do things but it's common practice to use the on-site dice roller to attach rolls to your post.

It's also common practice to use bold text for speech and italics for inner monologue, but again, these are merely conventions and not rules.

I see...

Rolls

Why do PBP people hate rolling real dice? - (2d10)

(25) = 7

Aug 6, 2022 3:59 am
I don't think it has anything to do with hate. The forum is our "table" so it only makes sense to roll here. But I'm not the DM here. It's entirely Cettish's call.
Aug 6, 2022 12:39 pm
I think that's also the "selling point" of this site is the post dice roller. I can't say I've seen this in other PbP sites I've been to.
Aug 6, 2022 2:40 pm
One of the cool things of GP is that it has a lot of tools build in that help you in your play.
With the custom settings you can build quite advanced character sheets.

The dice roller is one of the tools that help a lot here. As Jabes already said, it is common practice here to use the dice roller.
So let's just stick with the dice roller. GP provides basically everything needed to play.

I will admit it is a cool feature.

I've done comparisons with IRL rolls vs PBP dice rollers, however, and you statistically roll lower by a solid 10% with PBP rollers (used critrollstats for the IRL roll data). Strangely enough, though, it is near even with the occurrences of nat 20s and nat 1s.

The argument that it's "more fair" to use computer rollers is valid, but I've always thought that the tactile act of rolling dice is part of the fun of D&D. But DM rules reign supreme, so I'll learn to use it.

Feel free to offer suggestions if I do something weird. I've got some habits that may be hard to break, but I'll try my best to conform. :)

Cettish says:
You can do 2D20H1 for advantage and 2D20L1 for disadvantage.
The "H1" tells you it will only pick the highest 1 dice, and the L1 the lowest.
This roll syntax is a fairly new site feature that I keep forgetting to use. I keep doing it the old way. 😅
Cettish says:
To speed up the posts at times, instead of calling for a perception check or so, I take the liberty of just rolling it :) That keeps the speed on posting.
I have absolutely no problem with the DM rolling for me. It really does help the naturally slow pace of PbP. In the sam3 vein, how do you feel about us rolling saves for monsters against our abilities? Of course we won't know their modifiers but we could roll unmodified d20s if that helps you at all, @Cettish.
Aug 9, 2022 3:11 pm
Yes that would be great.
Plus it gives you some insight, if the roll is much lower/higher than the DC you'd generslly know the result already. Usually only rolls within 3, maybe 4 points of the dc will be questionable.
Aug 10, 2022 6:11 am
@Cettish I see that 3Mon successfully saved against being knocked prone by Yong but I think you might have forgotten to roll its saving throw against the Stunning Strike? It's DC 15 CON.

Ooh missed that.

(Admitting: I don't know much about monks as the class doesn't really appeal to me as a player, I always read up again what they can do)
Aug 11, 2022 6:09 am
Oops, I had Yong's AC marked on the sheet as 16 but it's actually 17. Unarmed Defense: AC = 10 + Dexterity modifier + Wisdom modifier. Fixed.

That means 3Mon only hit him once for 6 slashing.
Sep 1, 2022 12:51 am
In case anyone missed it, quoting here Cettish's post in the Absences thread.
Cettish says:
Life is a bit weird atm for me with quite some things going on.
I have been quite inactive the last two days or so, and this will probably go on a bit longer.
I will be back when I can. Hopefully around the weekend.
Sep 1, 2022 10:45 am
Thanks for letting us know. I've been having some life things come up too lately. It happens.
Sep 1, 2022 6:36 pm
I'll stick around even if it slows down for a while. I'd like to figure this out!
Sep 2, 2022 5:47 am
Yeah take all the time you need to do what you gotta do IRL, folks. We'll be here when you return.
Sep 2, 2022 9:00 am
All. Due to reall life changes I will be available a whole lot less on GP.
As such I need to cut down the number of games I am in.
Because of the time it takes to GM, I am planning to close this game.
Sorry all.
Sep 2, 2022 10:07 am
I absolutely understand. Thank you for the time you spent with us, though! Take it easy.
Sep 2, 2022 10:17 am
I completely understand, @Cettish. Please take good care of yourself. I hope to game with you again in the future!
Sep 2, 2022 5:26 pm
Totally get it. I hope everything gets better for you!
