Good morning all. Just wanted to run some ideas past the DM and y'all and see if we can start an out of game discussion. I hate arguing rulings in game. So here it goes!
Both Ideas are strategies to get things off the bottom of the lake quickly and efficiently, although there could be other uses depending on what is decided here.
Scenario 1.SHAPE WATER - Objects to be lifted from the lake bottom are first placed in some kind of container. Probably a net since we are on a ship. A short tether is then connected to the net. Next the cantrip "Shape Water" Is cast on the tether to form buoyant block of ice around it. The floating block brings the goods to the surface. Ship crew can then retrieve the loot. Some general math indicates a block of ice 5x5 should be able to float 625lb give or take. 1cubic ft ice lifts 5lbs in water
Scenario 2. LEOMUNDS TINY HUT- Similar to the above but bigger. First would need some DM ruling on the spell mechanics when cast underwater. Is the hut is filled with air and a comfy environment? Next, is the Hut stationary and immovable, OR is it stationary relative to the surface it is cast on. For instance, If cast on the deck of a ship or some other potentially moveable platform does the Hut move?
The intent here is to create a LARGE Bobber. If an air filled hut is cast on a platform underwater. The platform should rise to the surface if not anchored. Of course this all assumes one can cast It underwater and that it is stationary relative only to the surface it is cast on. Used in this way a hemisphere with a 10R would contain 2094 cubic feet of air. That much air can lift 129,828 lbs. Thats massive! 1cubic ft = 62lbs lift uderwater.
Whew! I hope that isn’t too much! Just wanted to put this out there to avoid any ingame delays and debates! I thinke example 1 is pretty cut and dry. Example 2 probably need some ruling.
