Bryson
"Is it them?" Bryson starts up with a modicum of hope on his voice.

"We… we flag them down. Tell them we set out to start a new life in Lys. To work… and work hard. And thank the gods they led that ship to us!"

Eggo
Eggo returns to the side of Merilda, and tugs at her cuff as she questions the colors. He points to the door, and then shakes his head.

Nothing there…

Belamina reads over a new entry in the captain's log: "Arrived in Alviz. No problem avoiding the Ibis marines, but Crew balked when I instructed them to avoid fires and lanterns. I had Master of Arms Ricori put the rope to those who balked too loudly."

OOC:
@ogion How's it going? You haven't posted in 11 days.

OOC:
Would Brother Longfoot know an appropriate way to signal for help? I would suggest flying a distress flag or something but not sure how that's done.
Dec 20, 2022 2:30 am
With Eugene pleased to be in the crow's nest, and still raving, Belamina rests and recovers while continuing to page through the book.

Dengus the Ditch Digger
Dengus the Ditch-Digger, though, he's a man to see things done. So he heads for the upper deck of the bow. "We need to see what's in them rooms, there? Who's with me?!"
OOC:
Also presume there was nothing else of worth on the pig-men?

Gryff the Elder
"Go on, lad. I’ll be alright here. That ship’ll be with us soon, and we’ll be on our way again. I’ll just catch my breath." Gryff the Elder says, absolving the young baker of Amy duty to the older man.

Bryson
"Right…" Bryson responds, thinking a moment. "I suppose we’d best make sure this ship is safe, for when they get here. Otherwise they might think that we…" he swallows the thought then, and crosses to Dengus, with a a stiff nod.

Eggo
Eggo slinks in behind the men. Sword at the ready, he makes some reptilian grunt of agreement, and fiddles with his sword, holding it at the ready!

Merilda Hovelsworth
"Listen up." the noble woman starts out. "We are to secure this ship, so that we can safely signal down the Lysians. If there’s anything nefarious aboard, we root it out! Understood?" she commands, as she waits for Dengus to open the first door.

Dengus the Ditch Digger
Dengus nods at the well-to-do woman, then does just that, opening the door on the left first, kicking it open.

Len says:

OOC:
You can make a DC 8 Int check, or just asking aloud in character might get some responses from people who would know.
Belamina flips to the next entry in the captain's log: "Strange! The crew injured in the ceremony seem to have taken on a sickness. Lowell believes it may be Banana Fever. I’ve instructed Lowell to leave the sick behind on Alviz but ordered that McCann stays—I won’t be without my Steward."
OOC:
Who's going into which rooms?
Dec 20, 2022 6:40 am
Brother Longfoot
Longfoot thinks of all the times he dreamt of venturing on sailing ships, and tries to recall the proper way for a vessel to signal distress to another ship. Recalling the correct flags to fly, he gets them up the mast as quick as possible.
OOC:
Or whatever is the proper way to signal for help!
Baldwin
"Secure the ship!" Baldwin echoes Merilda, but in a way that makes it sound like in fact he said it. "To me, able-bodied men!" He will start by trying to bust through the door to the galley that (unbeknownst to Baldwin) Joseph fortified.

Brother Longfoot catches sight of the broken lamp hanging from the main mast and gets an idea of how to signal the ship. Light! He remembers seeing some intact lamps hanging from some of the poles down in the cargo hold where he woke up.
Baldwin enters the galley and sees two corpses, one a member of the crew of the Nostro, and the other is poor Joseph. Both are covered in blood and have holes in their abdomens. A trail of blood droplets leads out of the porthole. A fire is stoked in the oven, and the room is warm with dancing firelight. A slime trail is also present, with coal dust seemingly attracted to it like iron shavings to a magnet.
Dengus opens the port-side door (or was it starboard?). This stateroom has a large table, a desk, and a shelf with several stoppered jars. Next to the large table is a smaller table with surgical equipment and a large book. Hanging by a hook over the table is an unlit lantern.

On the large table is the exposed body of a young male sailor. Someone has taken forceps and pulled back the flesh of its midsection as part of a post-mortem examination. The corpse bears a savage wound in its abdomen as well as many lacerations on the arms, face, and neck. The corpse has one eye open that leers at you disturbingly.

Dengus the Ditch Digger
Stepping through the port-side door, Dengus scans over the contents of the room, then grimaces when he sees the thing on the table. With his weapon at the ready, he keeps tabs on the corpse and its unsettling eye, moving about the room to make sure that eye didn't follow him.

Back outside, Belamina begins to relate what she's reading to anyone who will listen...

The eye doesn't follow Dengus. As he stares at it, he realizes it is a false eye.

Eggo and Merilda follow Baldwin into the room with the two corpses.

The lizardfolk sniffs at the slime, searching his cold, calculating for any predator or prey it might remind him of.

The noblewoman instead follows the blood to the porthole.

Merilda Hovelsworth
"Whatever it was went that way!" she states, obviously. Weapon in hand, she tries to peek out and around the hole to see if she can spot something on the other side.
OOC:
Peek from within, not putting her head through!

Bryson follows Dengus into the room, and immediately regrets it.

"Gods!" he says, lurching unsteadily on his feet. His stomach flips.

"What in the heavens happened here?"
Dec 21, 2022 1:05 pm
Merilda sees nothing but the boundless ocean from her vantage point. Eggo sniffs at the slime and gets nostril full of spoiled cabbage, sulfur, and moss. A weird mixture he's never smelled before.

Dengus the Ditch Digger
Dengus walks the room warily, his boots thumping on the deck as he does. He checks everything over carefully -- the desk and its drawers, the table, the lantern (which he takes), the jars on the shelf. The surgical equipment as well he investigates, and the book... well, Dengus cannot read, so he collects it for someone who can.

Brother Longfoot
Brother Longfoot makes note of Belamnia's reading, and encourages her to keep searching. He grabs the lantern from its post as inspirations strikes him like lightning. He ascends to the crow's nest and begins frantically signalling the distant Lysian ship.
OOC:
Roll tossed in for good measure!
Baldwin
Baldwin pays Joseph respect with a salute.

"It seems there are more monsters that we must slay, " he says grimly. He then follows the slime trail to see where it leads. Unlike Joseph, he completely misses the interaction between the slime and the coal dust.

Merilda follows along with the man, considering him for a moment as she does so. A fine man, and a leader; eager for heroics and a good fight.

Merilda Hovelsworth
"Your family." she declares suddenly. "Who are they?"

A more important question than who are you… depending on the circles you swam in.
