Eugene the Raving Lunatic
Still wearing the bird-mask, Eugene squawks a little when he hears someone else climbing up towards the crow's nest.

"Occupied!" he shouts down at the man climbing the mast. "Occupied, I say!"
Dec 23, 2022 11:07 am
Dengus surveys the room carefully. Among the surgeon's tools he sees an extremely sharp scalple (d4 dmg) and some slender probing tools that might serve as impromptu lockpicks. The vials each contain a medicinal herb, root, leaf, or flower. There is a label on each bottle but the scawl is nonsense to him.

Eugene is more accurate than he knows! As he looks down the rigging toward where Brother Longfoot is climbing, he sees a dark-grey reptilian creature clamber over the edge of the boat, directly behind the half-demon Elix near the mast to the crow's nest. Before Eugene can say anything, the creature lunges and pulls the half-demon over the side of the boat and into the water with a splash.
OOC:
I'll just use ogion's characters to help save some of your PCs for a few rounds lol.

OOC:
So sorry. I'm having a crazy end of the year. I'll post this weekend. Feel free to use my characters if you need to.

"Listen, I just want to signal the boat! They're our best bet for rescue. Let me up!" He gestures to the lantern for effect.

KCC says:
Merilda follows along with the man, considering him for a moment as she does so. A fine man, and a leader; eager for heroics and a good fight.

"Your family." she declares suddenly. "Who are they?"

A more important question than who are you… depending on the circles you swam in.
"My family? Dead, every single one. I am the last of my lineage..." He ends the sentence in such a way to discourage polite folk from inquiring more. In truth, his mother and father and eleven brothers were all alive and well, but he was lost in his hero persona and it just seemed the right thing to say in the moment.

Dengus the Ditch Digger
"There are herbs in here," Dengus calls out to whomever is listening, "and some tools meant for delicate tasks."

The man then grimaces as he checks over the body, then moves to the other door if nothing of interest is evident.
OOC:
Someone come get these herbs!
Belamina the Fortune Teller

Outside, Belamina continues to convalesce and pour over the book until Eugene shouts a warning!

Eugene the Raving Lunatic
"Look out! Lizard attack! From the sides they come!" he belts down to the deck, pointing.

Merilda Hovelsworth
Merilda isn’t polite folk.

"Its the lineage I’m interested in, not the particular personalities…" she says, with a smug smile of a noble family steeped in ‘lineage’.

Bryson
Bryson, upon mention of herbs, shrugs his shoulders in a why not fashion. The baker would make a nice herby loaf, if they got out of this. Or herbed soup, and crusty bread. He pockets them.

But then words comes of attack, and he races to check on Gryff the Elder!

Gryff the Elder
Gryff sees the half-demon yanked overboard in front of his very eyes. He gets to his feet then, and moves into the central deck. He sees the others come running, which eases the sudden panicked breathing somewhat!
OOC:
Eggo and Bryson will race out, and Merilda will follow at the conclusion of the bit about Lineage!
Dec 26, 2022 10:19 am
By the time everyone rushes out, the danger has passed...for now. Anyone looking down sees the half-demon bobbing on the surface of the water, a large hole torn out of his abdoment. A moment later a shark is attracted to the blood and chomps on the body, dragging it under the waves.

Belamina reads one more entry before being distracted by Eugene's cry. "Alkar's Stones! My Steward McCann has been killed! The boy was found eviscerated in his bunk. Gutted like a pig. I've tasked Mr. Connant to find the murdering fiend!"

Bryson
"C…come indoors!" the baker trembles, trying to sound authoritative.

He calls up to the nest:

"There’s something still… still prowling down here! Come down and take shelter!"

Baldwin
Baldwin balks at Merilda's query. "Now is no time for stories, it is time for action!"

As she runs out of the room, his eyes settle on the oven's burgeoning fire. He imagines burning the monster alive, or the whole ship down to its timbers if he must, to take the monster with him should it mortally wound him.
OOC:
Baldwin wants to light something on fire - a stick, maybe - and carry it around like a torch. Is there such a thing? Does he have to stoke the fire a bit more? If he has to, he will spend actions to stoke the fire.

Brother Longfoot
Brother Longfoot continues to signal the ship and uses his looking glass to see if the ship sends messages back in return.

He calls back to Bryson: "I think we are safer up here! At least we can see a monster coming! Besides, our best bet is to signal the ship! I must confirm it has seen our desperate message!"

Lifting his mask so he can better be heard, Eugene calls for the spyglass from the crow's nest. "Give me the glass, the captain's glass! I'll look for land, and what the goings-on are are that other ship!"

Bryson lets out a whimper-groan as the others’ refusal to seek shelter. And then he turns his back to them with a shrug and makes his way indoors.

"That way, lad!" Gryff the Elder remarks, pointing an old finger at the unopened door.

"Away from the bodies, don’t you think?"

The baker nods his head and makes for the remaining closed door!

This spacious cabin contains a simple bed, wardrobe, and locker for storing personal effects. On the table is a journal scribed in elegant handwriting. The front of the journal says, "Property of First Mate Connant" The journal has artistic drawings of mermaids, birds, an-chors, and other nautical-themed items on the cover and in the margins.

A hatch on the opposite wall leads to a forward cabin

Brother Longfoot
Eugene's behaviour hasn't exactly inspired confidence in the cartographer so far, but he seems pretty lucid at the moment and Longfoot's hands are full, so he hands his him the glass, giving him instructions on what signals to watch out for. He returns to frantically sending the signals while keeping an eye on Eugene and a hand on the rigging.

The ship is little more than a spec with the naked eye, but through the spy glass you can make out that it has changed course and is headed your direction.

OOC:
I'm going forward on the assumption that Baldwin can do the things I was asking about in this post , but pull me back if I'm off base here
Baldwin
Baldwin emerges from the cabin with a flaming torch he's made from wrapping strip of an oil-soaked apron strapped to a long stick. In his other hand is the mighty dragon-slaying mallet. He has the look of demon slayer written all over him as his battle-hinge eyes scan the deck for targets.

He hears Bryson's calls from below decks, and wonders if the Beast might be below. Hell is beneath men's feet he reasons, surely that's where such a beast would lie.

"Is there any fighting men and women who will descend into the bowels of the ship with me and drive this demon out?"

He gestures to Bryson. "Bear witness to our heroics, old man. Come with us!"
OOC:
Aiming to go to the bottom decks, which I believe are unexplored. Anyone want to come?

Eugene the Raving Lunatic
Eugene initially raises the glass the wrong way 'round, but quick enough he corrects that and spies the now inbound ship. "It's coming!" he says excitedly, "they must see your signals!"
OOC:
Can he see anyone on deck? He's basically keeping watch, and will scan around the other directions from time to time.
Dengus the Ditch Digger
Seeing the Baker investigate the other room, Dengus follows him in and looms in the doorway. "Open that next door," he says, pointing at the closed portal, standing ready to assist if the man needs it.

When Baldwin calls for aid, the ditch-digger leans outside and shouts down towards him. "I'll come! Just let us make sure there are no more pig-demons up there!"
OOC:
Once it's clear the upper decks are clear of obvious bad guys, Dengus will go with Baldwin.
Belamina the Fortune Teller
Ignoring the goings-ons around her, Belamina continues to read, and to call out important details to those around her.

OOC:
Oh sorry, yes totally fine! The fire has been stoked enough and torch materials are readily available! Eugene can see everyone on deck from the crow's nest, no enemies in sight. I'll describe what you can see on the poop deck and fo'c'sle as well.
On the fo’c’sle, a peculiar dog-like humanoid figure has been carved into the foremast. The creature is approximately 2-feet tall, has a canine face, stands up-right like a halfling, but has webbed hands and feet. It is dressed in traditional sailor’s attire and is holding a hammer and smoking a pipe. It appears to be smiling cheerfully.

On the poop deck, you’re alarmed to find the ship’s wheel has been splintered to pieces. So now, in addition to all the other hardships you’ve endured, you’re also left wondering how you will possibly steer the ship? Near the splintered ruins of the ship’s wheel is a small locker.
Belamina reads another entry in the log: "Three more murders! Entrails removed just like with McCann. The crew fear we may have a reef-wraith on board and are now singing to the Klabautermann for protection from dawn to dusk. I brook none of this nonsense. The culprit is a man and we shall unveil the fiend! Doubling the watch. Tempted to light the lanterns at night despite the Ibis risk."
Bryson, Gryff, and Dengus look in as the baker opens the door. Entering this large stateroom, you feel like you’ve stepped off the ship and into a cave. The walls have been adorned with clay and rock in such a meticulous and ingenious manner, the cabin resembles an underground cavern.

On one side of the "cavern" is a small sitting ledge with an open scroll and candle. Laying on the floor is Dahut! You recognize her from your farewell dinner with Captain de Keradel the night before departing on your voyage. Dahut’s arms are crossed over her chest and she’s holding an ornate rock pick, but both she and the tool are transformed! Dahut’s flesh is in a state of petrification, half flesh and half stone. It’s as if she’s been gazed upon by a basilisk!
