Baldwin tries to bravely draw out the creature but gets no response. He thinks he hears thumping on the outer hull, almost like footsteps. But maybe it was a shark or debris in the water.
OOC:
How successful was Baldwin's search for oil or other items?

Eugene the Raving Lunatic
Grabbing the needle back from Belamina, Eugene grins and cackles behind his mask for a moment. "I'll do it!" he says gleefully. "You ready whatever else is needed for the ritual... I will draw her heartblood!"

And then, turning the needle over in his hand -- he does, plunging it into the prone woman's breast!
OOC:
Oof! So. Eugene has 12 Luck! And mushrooms! And Belamina helping with her gasping and pointing! What can be done here? Can one burn luck down to zero?

Gryff the Elder
Gryff stands over the other two, as they prepare the ritual.

"No, I don’t think that’s the ri…" and the man is stopped up short, as the lunatic jabs the needle into flesh. He knows it looks wrong, as soon as the job is done.

He sits back down, defeated, despite having no great part in the story.

OOC:
Baldwin give me a DC 12 Agility check for ransacking the barrels. Eugene, yes you can burn Luck to 0 but that's a death sentence. Your call.
While Brother Longfoot is not looking at it, the ship's wheel repairs itself. One moment its broken, then when Longfoot looks away and looks back again a few minutes later it is restored.

You only live once. Or four times, in this funnel. Burn it! Luck to zero!

By a miraculous coincidence, Stone Dahut was born with a defect where her heart lies on the opposite side of most people and Eugene fortuitously found it. He withdraws the needle and squirts out some of the blood into the bowl. Chanting the words on the scroll, Dahut's eyes snap open and she takes a deep, shaking breath. The stone enveloping her seems to turn into a flaky covering of ash and begins to crumble away. Dahut doesn't sit up but her eyes look at you. "Have we arrived?" she croaks out.

Brother Longfoot is amazed at the repair of the ship's helm! He climbs down from the crows nest and tries to take the helm and steer them toward the other ship.

Belamina the Fortune Teller
Finishing the chant, Belamina shrieks with joy when the woman on the ground wakes! They did it!

"We are still at sea!" the woman says to Dahut, coming to her side to comfort her. "Terrible things have happened on this ship! We are trying to save you! But now you must tell us. What happened here?!"

Dengus the Ditch Digger
Standing nearby, Dengus helps as best he given, mostly just being present to support Belamina. He doesn't trust the formally stone woman lying on the floor, and keep his weapon at the ready as she wakes.

Eugene the Raving Lunatic
Not feeling well, Eugene finds his way outside, into the salt air. He feels strange, like he's in a dream...

Gryff the Elder
Gryff stands, mouth agape as the woman comes to life. He claps the madman on the shoulder as he staffers by.

"You’ve done it, lad! You’ve done it." and he lets the man go by. He wanders over to peer over the shoulder of another.

"Terrible things! Though… your own predicament is bad enough. What happened?"

Merilda Hovelsworth
"Pointless searching!" Merilda groans, turning over another barrel of mundane supplies!

"We should get back to the deck, and prepare for whatever boarding party that ship might send. We expect a friend… but the Hovelsworth have long known the value of a friend." she spits then.

"Betrayal. Let’s get up there!"
Jan 13, 2023 1:46 pm
The woman's eyes and mouth move around but she has yet to move anything else. "We were attacked. Some creature. Did you kill it?! It murdered almost the entire crew. Picked us off one by one. I knew I wouldn't make it so I cast a spell on myself to protect me until we reached the shore. But you've woken me up. Please tell me you've killed the creature! Otherwise we're all doomed."

Stone Dahut doesn't have to wait for much of an answer. As Eugene walks out of the room and back on the main deck, the lizard-man creature pounces from the side of the ship. It bites into his neck while a claw digs into his abdomen and removes his liver.

Eugene the Raving Lunatic
"AHHH! MY LIVER!" Eugene cries as he dies, punctured and eviscerated to death. Blood rises in the man's mouth, inside his mask, and his screams are garbled by the scarlet fluid until he is lying still on the deck in a spreading pool of crimson, seconds later...
Jan 14, 2023 4:55 am
Dengus the Ditch Digger
"Everyone!" Dengus cries from the doorway leading to the room where the half-stone woman lies waking. He just witnessed Eugene's death, and raises the alarm as loud as he can. "There's a monster on deck! A monster what caused all this! Pick up your arms!"

Saying that, the man -- more than a bit terrified of the beast -- waits to see what its next move is, holding his sword in a defensive guard.

In the room behind him, Belamina huddles with the woman on the floor.

Belamina the Fortune Teller
"We hadn't seen this creature!" she exclaims. "But now it is outside! Do you have anything in here that will help us fight it?! Any magicks or charms!?"

Now that her hands are not encased in stone, Dahut loosens her hands. "Take this. It is blessed with magic. My spell sapped my strength and the after effects will take more than a week to fade completely. Someone must watch over me until the creature is dead or we reach land. If it attacks me I am as helpless as a newborn babe."

Baldwin unties a rope and at the last minute realizes it is holding up a giant stack of barrels which are about to come crashing down. He instead ties the rope off at a different angle allowing only one barrel to be freed. Inside it is the ship's store of dried jerky.

Merilda and Eggo both bound up the stairs as the cry reaches them below! Swords drawn; they take up positions to fight the creature, shouldn’t show itself again!

Eggo, being a keen hunter and tracker, watches for the thing precisely at the angles he would hunt something from!

The creature tucks a bloody lump of whatever it ripped out of Eugene into a pouch in its cheek like a hamster and swan dives over the rail and back into the ocean.

Baldwin will devour a few handfuls of dried jerky, suddenly realizing how hungry he is, then return to the mid-decks where the dragons' bodies lie. He will paint red streaks on his face with the their blood, and then return to the surface decks once more.
