Belamina the Fortune Teller
Belamina graciously accepts and examines whatever it is that the partially stone sorceress hands to her, and she offers reassuring words that are perhaps not entirely truthful. "We'll be with you! We will keep you safe!"

Dengus the Ditch Digger
"The thing went back over the side!" Dengus calls from the door. "What is it? How do we fight it?" he asks Dahut.

Gryff nods along, adding his own unspoken support to the question of what the creature is. Turning, he heads for the door, and looks to set about shutting it tight and barring it.

"Let that ship deal with it!" he calls to those on the deck.

"They’ll have weaponry!" he follows up.

"Come inside and I’ll bar the door!" he continues, risking further seconds at the door.

OOC:
There is only one level left on the ship in the very bottom. You can explore that or just barricade yourselves inside and hope for the best. Or split the party and do both! Gryff is going for barricaing, anyone else joining him?

Belamina and Dengus are definitely up for barricading.

Edit: Eugene? He's looking for a liver donor!

Once on course toward the other ship, Brother Longfoot will attempt to lash the helm with rope in an attempt to keep the ship on course with him absent. Then he'll head down, and run into Baldwin, now covered in streaks of dragon's blood.

"Brother Longfoot! It is time to put an end to this. Let us descend to the very bottom of the ship. There we will find our victory and our salvation!"

"It seems like as good a place to be as any on this cursed ship. Let's go - but please, let's be quiet about it?"
OOC:
Baldwin and Longfoot will go to the last unexplored level of the ship, and anyone who wants to come along are welcome!
OOC:
My two characters are heading
Jan 17, 2023 6:50 am
Brother Longfoot steers directly into the oncoming ship and ties the wheel in place to keep the course. He judges they should meet with the other ship in an hour or less.

The ladder leading down into the bilge leads to a platform big enough to hold about three people and rests only a few inches higher than the bilgewater. The rank water is a ripe mixture of sea water polluted with the filth of sailors who, for weeks now, have used this area as a latrine.

Towards the aft, a tube descends from the deck above and into the water. Towards the fore of the ship, protruding through the water are four large, veiny leather sacks covered in mucous. You nervously intuit that these may be some sort of unholy, or unearthly, eggs.

As you examine the sacks, a scratching and clawing sound can be heard originating from the bottom of the ship. It is the unnerving sound of someone, or something, trying to claw its way through the hull.
Everyone else barricades themselves in Dahut's room. It is the cleanest since there are no dead bodies or spilled blood everywhere, and they can try to protect her here. Dahut asks for some water and then rests as her body begins its long recovery from the spell, and the hole in her chest.

"Oh gods, this is no good," whispers Longfoot. "If we find a way to pierce the unhatched eggs we can return, but for now we can gain nothing from this." He thinks about capturing the eggs to use as hostages but there was no guarantee the Beast was intelligent enough to understand.

Baldwin hears the Beast crawling along the hull and resists the urge to scream out a challenge. He has bought into Longfoot's plan to use subterfuge and surprise - two things that Baldwin obviously specializes in!
OOC:
The ladder that leads in here, can it be removed? And what kind of hatch leads into this space? A hole in the floor kind of deal? Does it have a door that can be closed?
Jan 18, 2023 7:19 am
OOC:
The ladder can be broken but otherwise its built into the ship. There's no hatch but you could improvise something to cover it like a crate. The ladder extends from the main deck all the way down here in its own shaft.
Jan 18, 2023 8:16 pm
Destroying the ladder seems too time-consuming and would create too much noise, so Brother Longfoot figures it will be sufficient to block things from coming up the ladder. He's concerned about those eggs hatching, and little monsters running all over the ship. He hooks Baldwin into helping, and they shove a dead body down the hatch into the bilge, hoping that might satisfy newly hatched monsters for a time. Then, they use sailcloth and barrels to stuff the hatch to the bilge, making it as tight as possible.

If this is successful, they'll climb up to the main deck. They'll head to the galley to fetch knives, preferably serrated ones. Then, they'll cut the rigging that lead up to the crow's nest at the base and climb up the loose rigging. Then they'll haul up the loose rigging up to the crow's nest and wait.
OOC:
A lot of "ifs" here. It is presented as 'if all goes well, here's what they do' but please feel free to interrupt my plan and I'll retcon it.

Merilda, Gryff, and Eggo wait for something… anything.

Gryff waits for the ship to arrive, and for rescue to reach them.

Merilda watches through a gap in some wood, waiting to see if the others return, or if the creature shows its face.

Eggo waits for a snarl, or a scent, that would set his lizard instincts afire and ready himself for battle.

They wait…

Yeah plugging the hatches sounds like a good plan. It'll take time, so give me a Luck check to see if you finish before anything...dangerous happens lol. We'll take one action at a time.
Christnar and Gerdich decide not to be cooped up inside. When they hear Brother Longfoot's plans, the two decide to selfishly climb up the rigging to the crow's nest and then cut it, leaving them safe and with a great view while the others barricade the hatches. Gerdich however gets tangled in the climb and begins to fall. In a freak accident his head goes through a loop of rigging and his neck snaps from the weight. His limb body now hangs ten feet off the ground, twisting in the wind.

Rolling under your Luck is success! Lol. You finish barricading before any eggs hatch or the creature breaks through.

Gryff the Elder
"Damned fools! Damned!" Gryff calls after the two, and then the watches as one dies almost instantly.

"Fools!" he says, turning away!

"Let the ship come!" he repeats! "Let the ship come. They’ll get us off this cursed vessel!"
Jan 23, 2023 5:57 am
There's a loud sound of splintering wood below decks. After several minutes you see objects on horizontal surfaces gradually begin rolling toward the prow of the ship...

The Ibis ship in the distance approaches. Less than ten minutes until they arrive you estimate.

Sorry to be quiet for a bit -- plugging back into my GP games in the next day or so. Are Dengus and Belamina still barricaded? Was Eugene's liver delicious?

Yes and yes! We should be able to wrap up the game by the weekend as well I think.

Longfoot and Baldwin watch as the asinine pair, Christnar and Gerdich, steal their hiding spot. They smirk with some satisfaction as Gerdich falls to his death. But the sound of splintering of wood below decks was more concerning than vengeance. Were they sinking now? The thought of being trapped in the water with the monster was not pleasant. Longfoot makes his way to the stern of the ship, singing to the Klabautermann to try to encourage the invisible water kobold to fix the damage! Baldwin will aim to guard Longfoot and himself.

Merilda Hovelsworth
"What are they doing?" Merilda asks, at once annoyed. She looks to Eggo, and something passes between them.

The lizard creature nods, and Merilda throws open the door in an instant. The two exit, and ready their blades.

"Not the time for a song!" Merilda calls above the singing.
