Yep, Lily and Wendy exiting to wash up, with Emily in hot pursuit (unless she goes to another bathroom). And then on to the paper after school.

The only people not invited to the event of the century down by the river. Whatever it may end up being!

After School (335pm) - Rose and Zach

Rose Tidwell
Rose's eyes are on their dad's car as she speaks lowly to her brother, like they are a pair of spies in the cold war.

"Alright, so you're clear? I'm studying Spanish at Stacey's, I'll have dinner over there, and Stacey's mom will drop me off later. Don't screw up my story, okay? I'll text him when I know what time I'll be home."
OOC:
Don't feel pressured to just break and go here -- cool to converse about other things with your sis as well.

"So... we are going to the thing together, right? The homecoming soiree?" Wendy is asking as the two girls head for the school paper office. It's warm in the building -- uncomfortably warm. The heat is absolutely on, and has been all day. It's mid to high 80s at least in the school.

"You're sure you don't want to hold out hope that Captain Dorkalot doesn't ask you? I mean he's not going to, but it might be amusing to watch your hopes and dreams get shattered. Again."

Mr. Edge
Emily

After the last bell, Emily is waiting for her brother near the main doors as the minutes tick by, and as the kids who don't have extra curricular practices and other activities clear out, climb onto busses and otherwise head home. There's no sign of Steve, but she does catch sight of Mr. Edge. He's smartly dresses as usual, but she's not sure what's he's doing -- standing near one of the large flower beds beside the school... smelling pansies, and the chrysanthemums?

Freddie

Fred's sisters are waiting for their ride home after school ends, but as the boy heads towards where they are waiting on a bench, he hears someone say his name.

Brittany Maidstone
"Freddie Solomon? Got a minute?"

It's Ms. Maidstone. Her hair is up in a ponytail as she's just finished teaching a gym class, and she looks ridiculously hot in her t-shirt and dark, hip-hugging yoga pants.
OOC:
Do Fred's sister know about Maidstone acting as a bit of a mentor for him?

"Of course!" Lily chimes, chirpy as anything.

"Why?" she says, suddenly changing her tone! "You… you don’t want to go with me?" she says. She stops walking then, and crosses her arms. She starts to stomp her feet.

"You can just say so!" she pouts. And then she breaks the act of the slightly unstable girlfriend and laughs.

"You have someone you’d rather go with?"

Lily didn’t know what answer she hoped for…

Then she laughs awkwardly.

"Dreams shattered! Yep, that’s me!"

Lily and Wendy - Outside the School Paper Office

Wendy Lin
Wendy's expression is incredulous as Lily pantomimes being a psycho girlfriend with disturbing ease. "How about anyone!" she fake-shouts at her friend when she's asked about who she'd rather go with, and then the Asian-American girl is laughing as well, making the moment more awkward still.

It's hanging in the air between them. Are they serious? Kidding because they are serious? Kidding because...

Lily puts a lid back on the box they've both been toying with peeking into with her Dreams shattered! comment, but but before Wendy can respond, she sees something over her friend's shoulder that widens her eyes.

"Um... uh... check that out..." the freckled teen says quietly, gesturing with her dark eyes. Her voice is a whisper then. "Be subtle! No sudden moves!"
OOC:
Stealth check please, Lily!

Oh man, where the hell is he already? Watching the kids filing out with that school is over energy she searched for Steve's car. Patience was never her strong suit and she started pacing as she became more and more annoyed at her undependable brother.

No doubt he's chatting some girl up leaving me looking like a lump.

She was still subconscious about being the new girl and waiting around alone made her squirm.

"Is that ....?" Emily whispers to herself as she thinks she sees the delectable Mr Edge which totally makes her annoyance with Steve disappear. Squinting and craning her head in his direction she realizes it is him and walks over, her curiosity peaked.

"Hi Mr. Edge. How are you? I ... we missed you this morning for the test. Were you ... do you mind if I ask what you are doing with the flowers? Is everything ok?" Her words tumbled out and she realized she was flustered and now she felt foolish. "I love pansies. Need some help?"

OOC:
With that roll you can probably crawl up into the ceiling and plant a mic and camera! Also, take a Benny.
Lily can tell by the look in Wendy's eyes that her friend is serious, so she is the very embodiment of subtle as she turns and chances a look behind her.

The door to the school's Language Center is open, and Palmer can see two people inside, standing face to face. Face to face about one foot apart, and completely motionless as they stare into one another's eyes. It's Mr. Polensky and Ms. Romanov -- both looking disheveled and like they had skipped showers and fresh clothes this morning. Rumors abounded about the way the married math teacher would sneak lusty glances at the younger Russian-American; rumors that often included them getting it on during various field trips, like the ski trip last year.

Whether the rumors were true or not, Romanov rarely showed romantic interest in the man on school premises, so if that... was what this... weirdness was... it was weird.

Turning when he hears a voice, Mr. Edge sees his student and squints handsomely for a moment before he smiles.

"Emily Richardsen, one of my most accomplished students. It's nice to see you, Emily. Sorry I missed the test this morning, something came up."

When the girl asks what he's doing with the flowers, whether everything is okay, and if she can help, the man's charming smile widens.

"I'm just appreciating beauty, Emily. Appreciating fragrance." His eyes are locked on her as he says this, and suddenly the teen isn't sure he's talking about flowers...

He's closer to her now, so tall, and he smells so good. "Sometimes we're so busy, Emily, that we look right past the most amazing things. The things that are sometimes right in front of us."

His smile has become wistful as he cocks his head. "Do you know what I mean? To not realize how you feel about something until you slow down and really pay attention to it?"

Freddie looks over and sees Ms. Maidstone.

He holds up a finger to his sisters at the car. His relationship with them is strained, a household full of dark corners no one shines a light into. He knows that he's got to be something more to them, but he had no idea on how to do that. Every ride he thinks of ways to break the thickening ice, but they end up mostly driving in silence.

"Ms. Maidstone, hello. How was your day?" Lame! Think of something chill to say. He moves over to her and concentrates on looking her in the eyes. "My lats seem to be loosening a bit. Those exercises you suggested might be doing the trick." The accident had left him with several odd muscle knots that he is trying to undo with physio, and she's helped him a lot.

"Or maybe I'll just tell him that this really cute older boy invited you to hang out at some secluded river with his other girlfriend," Zach grins, bumping Rose with his elbow before speeding up his steps to get to the car waiting for them.
Rose doesn't have time to complain before they're in earshot of their father and both climb into the car, Zach taking the front passenger seat, relegating Rose to the backseat.

"How was your test?" Mr. Tidwell asks as he navigates off the overpopulated school parking lot.

"Easy," Zach says. "I got into some trouble with Emily for saying so. She apparently had some trouble. But I'm pretty sure I should have a near-perfect grade."

"I so hope your smug ass failed it," Rose comments, earning the siblings an eyeroll from their father.

The drive to their small house near the edge of town passes mostly in silence, with Zach almost able to feel the glares Rose is shooting into the back of his head. He has no intention of telling on her, but he enjoys the fact that she doesn't know that for certain. They get out of the car and both teens head into their respective rooms. With an exhausted breath, Zach takes off his hoodie as well as the T-shirt underneath, then he peels out of his binder before quickly throwing his T-shirt back on. Luckily, he doesn't have a mirror in his room, so he doesn't have to look at himself. But as much as he loves his binder, it gets painful after a full day at school. And even though his home isn't nearly as hot as the school, getting out of the hoodie is a bit of a relief as well. He can't wait for winter when it will be a lot more appropriate.
Now feeling even more insecure about his appearance than the baseline at school, Zach gets up from his bed again and stretches. It's just his family here and as much as he'd love to be a perfect boy around them as well - it would probably help with the occasional she still slipping out about him - he can't do that at home, 24/7.

He then heads out of his room and towards Rose', knocking on her door. "Panicking about what to wear to Stacey's?" he teases through the door, pretty certain that she is fretting about her wardrobe right now. "I'm pretty sure she liked your tanktop well enough during lunch."

"Good," Maidstone says with a smile when asked about her day, and she follows up with the same response when Fred brings up his rehab. "And good, keep up with them. You're coming along nicely, but you have a ways to go yet."

Having Maidstone as basically a personal trainer at times has been quite the experience for Freddie Solomon -- she's unquestionably helped him recover physically from the accident, but her proximity in those sessions, her hands on him... it was about all a teenaged boy could take.

The woman's eyes -- where the boy continues to focus, despite that being a challenge -- go to his sisters on the bench. "I just wanted to ask how everything was at home. With your sisters, your step mother. With you." Her hand goes to his muscular shoulder and rubs it warmly. "Physically, you're recovering well. But how is everyone doing emotionally? You have access to counseling services through the school -- don't forget that. Make sure Belinda knows that, okay?"

Opening her door without a word, Rose reaches out, grabs Zach by the hand and drags him into the room. She's in her underwear, and sure enough, has her closet door open. She's trying to choose an outift. It's been a little while since Zach has seen her not wearing much, and he notes that she now looks a lot less adolescent and a lot more young woman.

"You think?" she asks, glancing the tank top she peeled off and dropped on the floor. "I couldn't tell. I couldn't tell a lot of things in that conversation -- it was weird! But I'm still trying to find my peeps at the school, so... like why not go? Right?"

Seeing that Zach has removed his binder, Rose gestures a little with her eyes. "How are things going... for you? How are you handling gym class or whatever? Does anyone know yet?"
Dec 26, 2022 5:29 pm
"It was weird," Zach agrees. He walks next to his sister to look into her closet with her. "I'm not really sure what to think about that conversation, or his weird maybe-half-invitation to the river." He puts an arm around his sister's shoulders - something he's been doing less often since she started getting more annoyed at any big sibling behavior he displays towards her. "Emily is nice. I'm sure you two will get along. And Freddie... Well, he is a jock, but at least he's not a total asshole. I think. So have fun today. Just... don't be disappointed if it doesn't go the way you want. I really can't tell what Freddie's intentions were during lunch."

As she asks about gym class, he lets out a heavy breath. "It's been going okay so far," he says. "I'm scared to death every single time I enter that stupid changing room but nothing bad has happened yet. Except the smell of course," he adds with a grin. " Nobody at school knows yet." He lets go of her and leans towards her closet, looking over the clothes inside. "Now, let's pick you an outfit." He reaches inside and pulls out a top that, while still sleeveless, reveals a lot less skin than what she was wearing at school. "Maybe something that won't make him wonder what you charge for an hour."

Freddie tries to be breezy about these things. Honestly, he has a hard time thinking around the inordinately hot teacher. His ears buzz, and it is mostly the pain and the work of the physiotherapy that she has guided him through that made her presence tolerable. At least once, she had to have seen he had a boner, but never said anything about it.

"My sisters are coping. I wish I knew what to say to them. There is a such a wall between us, all that pain and confusion. Belinda is I don't even know what's going on with her. If she was day drinking I'd at least have a handle on her."

He thinks about the counseling and inwardly shudders. He has too much guilt feelings from the accident to even know where to start dealing with that. And what would the girls say? Would it all come out? "I'll talk to Debby and Sarah, and let them know there is help."
Dec 26, 2022 6:43 pm
Emily's face instantly flushed into a deep red color at the unexpected compliment from Mr. Edge. Her thoughts turned to sap and she resisted the urge to drop her jaw in astonishment.

Was he really talking about her?

Now she knew what was meant by a deer being caught in the headlights. Big time. She couldn't move, she couldn't think. Were their breaths mingling? Did she just feel a tug of desire?

Finally emerging from her stupor she replied, "Um ... I ... think so?" But she couldn't look at him and instead stared hard at a flower.

"I don't even know how I want it to go," Rose says as she makes her I'm not twelve face and rejects Zach's suggested shirt. Ignoring his hooker comment, as she always does, the teen grabs a Forever 21 babydoll tank top that her parents don't know she has, then starts looking for a short skirt that'll go with it. Something to barely cover her thong.

She eyes her brother's chest during the process. "How... has no one noticed in gym class? Are they blind? I mean I know you wear a binder, but still. I guess maybe people don't see things where they don't expect to see them. I think what you're doing is brave, Zach. But... someone's going to find out at some point, right?"

Soon enough, two skirts and a pair of short-shorts are laid out on the girl's bed, and she's using her phone, checking her texts before she tries on her outfits. "Ah! Macro is almost here! He's going to be my ride! Do not tell mom and dad that."
OOC:
Why doesn't Zach like Marco, other than the fact that he has already graduated from high school but seems to mostly like hanging out with high school girls?

Brittany Maidstone's already warm smile turns gentle, and a little sad. "I can't imagine what it's been like for you three. Both of my folks are still alive, and we talk all the time. Just make sure you're there for each other -- and yeah, let your sisters know about counseling." There's a moment of pause and things get a little weird before Maidstone lifts her eyebrows. "And make sure their brother knows too, about the available counseling. It really can make a difference, Fred."

She doesn't comment on Belinda or the day-drinking -- or the various passes Mr. Solomon made at her over the years. Some things were better left unsaid.

"Alright, I'll let you go, I know they're waiting for you. Keep up the good work and see you in gym tomorrow."
