Rose doesn't quite know what to say to the string of stuff that Fred looses, so she shrugs and then looks mortified when Freddie mentions the plan to meet after school.

"What?! No! Wait. WHAT?! I thought you wanted me to come here, not meet after school! I'm so sorry -- did I miss something cool?! Can we do it now?"

When Emily pipes up regarding the dime bags, Rose just lifts her eyebrows and mouths how much?

Zach feels his heart race, and not in a nice way, but from pure adrenaline. He's still puzzling together what just happened. Someone tried to attack him. There was almost an accident. Faggots!
He's staring down at his phone, a half-written message to Abby on screen, when the man addresses him. Zach blinks and looks first at him, then in the direction that the pickup disappeared in. "I, uhm, I didn't see. I was looking at my phone," he says. "Ah, sorry."

Emily rubs her hand on Freddie's arm again in an almost possessive manner and as a way to signal that nope, he doesn't need to go anywhere now with Rose. Was Emily jealous already or was it a case of alpha females jockeying for attention?

She was going to say ten bucks as she withdrew a baggie but changed her mind.

"Twelve bucks on special. This is really mellow if you're into that sort of thing. You got the cash?"

Emily lights the pipe again taking a deep draw and then offers it to Freddie.

Taking the pipe, he watches the low stakes drug transaction go down. He takes a smaller puff, knowing he's got to drive later, and he's not used this. He breathes it out slowly.

"Sorry Rose, I guess we got our wires crossed. You look really nice. So, my date for Homecoming fell through, and Zach mentioned you didn't have any plans. If you're going to go, do you want to go with me?"

He holds up a hand before she can respond. "There is a catch, though. I am hoping I can talk with Priya there. She's probably going to tell me it's over over, but I don't know for sure. Either way, I won't be leaving with her, as her parents are probably going to be waiting out front."

Now regretting her decision to go to the dance with Zach she grabs the pipe from Freddie and fills her lungs with the last of what's left in the pipe bowl. It glows an angry red as she composes herself.

"Will you save a dance for me, Freddie? I'm sure Zach won't mind."

She's well and truly blitzed now and tries to hold Freddie's gaze, her eyes showing some kind of hope and promise.

"Goddamn it, I just had this fuckin’ thing waxed!" the taller man nearer the big black vehicle says as he inspects the deep scrapes along the rear door and quarter panel.

Flat-top, the man who called out to Zach, crosses the road and approaches as the boy apologizes. "No worries, kid," he says. "Not your fault, and what was that idiot tryin’ to do, drive-by punch you or somethin’? Fuckin’ morons. They better hope I don’t see them again. I’ll be looking for that truck."

"Speaking of, let’s go!" the other man shouts as he climbs back behind the wheel. "C’mon! We can go after them!"

"Hold up, shit for brains!" the man in front of Zach says to his friend. Lowering his voice, he turns back towards the teen and continues, "Why were they doin’ that, you think? You um, you new to the area? High school, right, what are you, like sixteen?"

If Rose had been confused by Fred’s quick-fire commentary around Marco, she’s positively dumbfounded by his complimenting her and then asking her to the prom — but not really. All while hanging out and getting stoned with another girl who is clearly into him. She holds a twenty dollar bill towards Emily as the red-eyed girl puffs and puffs, but she’s not quite sure what to say.

"Ah… oh. Thanks? Thanks. So you kind of want to go with me to the homecoming dance so you can try to get back with your old girlfriend… is that right? Do I have that right?"

Then, before Freddie can answer, Rose turns to Emily and extends her hand. "Hey, can I have a hit? I need a hit."

"Uhm, no idea why they'd try that," Zach replies evasively. Despite the two guys acting nice towards him, he has a bad feeling about them, so he doesn't really want to tell them anything about himself that he doesn't have to. "Look, I'm meeting some friends, so I should get going. Thanks for stopping to make sure I'm alright." He then starts walking again, hoping they'll just let him go without any more questions.

"Oh sure. Just let me repack it first."

Emily takes the twenty, folds it and slides it into a pocket and then hands Rose the baggie. Removing some bud from the other bag she packs another bowl and hands it and the lighter to Rose. If Emily is lucky, Rose will inhale too much, get paranoid and make a fool of herself.

"Take a nice big toke of that stuff and hold it in as long as you can," she adds while removing her hand from Freddie. He seems like a lost cause now but in his defense, he thinks she is going with Zach, which as far as she knows she is unless she can wrangle her way out of it but that's risky if she wants to have friends and customers.

Freddie shakes his head, smiling with mirth. This was a huge mistake. Sure she's cute, but she's also jailbait and radically impulsive.

"You're really cute, Rose. Any boy would be lucky to go with you. It's probably better you didn't come, the cool kids we'd be hanging with can be predatory." He leans closer to her as Emily have her the pipe. "But we're all very good dancers."

Lily and Wendy creep over to the window of the door that the hungover teacher peered at them through. First Lily presses her ear to the door, and then Wendy does. One at either side of the glass. And then they chance a peek. They both crouch, ready to jump out of sight.

Lily presses her face into the window, and then Wendy barges her own face in there so that each girl can get one eye on the prize. The skinship, the soft tingle of cheek against cheek…

The eye widens as they see what they see. And then a squeak of rubber shoe sole against linoleum flooring, and the girls jump back, and fix themselves. Taking Wendy by the wrist, Lily pulls her away from the door and around the corner.

A toilet… she looks for a toilet and the two girls head that way to speculate over what they saw!

"Yeah, sure kid," the closer of the two men says to Zach. "Not a problem. You go see your friends, enjoy yourself. Best years of your life, right here -- you know that? High school -- those were the days! Enjoy it!"

The teen keeps walking as the two men climb back into their SUV, then pull a u-turn and head down the road after the truck that sideswiped them. That is, of course, the same direction Zach's walking in, and he hears the truck slow down to a crawl as it reaches him.

"Hey! Buddy!" the man he was speaking with says, leaning out his window as he searches the streets. "Need a lift? We're going the same way, and -- well you know. Happy to give you a ride somewhere."

Zach nods at the man's comments about best years of his life. They don't feel like that to him. He breathes a sigh of relief when the men get into their car only to immediately feel anxious again when the SUV slows down next to him and the man leans out of the window towards him.

"I'm good, thanks," he replies, slowing his steps down further to indicate for the men to just drive off. "It's not far." At the same time, he takes out his phone again and unlocks the screen. After a (hopefully) final awkward smile at the men, Zach focuses his attention on the phone, hoping that makes it clear that he has no intention to further engage with these guys.

He quickly scrolls past the messages he got from Abby in this time and types to her:

Zach: Kind of freaked out. Some guys tried to randomly attack me out of a car
Zach: They're gone but now these other weird guys who saw the whole thing won't leave me alone

Lily and Wendy

Tumbling into a girls’ bathroom, Wendy and Lily both have their hands over their mouths to keep from AHHHHHing and their hearts are pounding.

"Did you see—" Wendy begins, but she doesn’t even bother finishing when her friend nods vigorously. They both saw it, the lewd scene in that room. In the Language Resource Center, where they will BOTH HAVE CLASS TOMORROW!

It was hard to even tell what was going on. The lights were off, clothing was strewn around… and Mr. Polensky and Ms. Romanov were on the floor in a tangle. A sweaty, grunting, thrusting tangle. Romanov’s legs were in the air, maybe? She was white-knuckle gripping the leg of a table as her mouth was open wide in ecstasy… and then there was Polensky’s hairy butt. His pumping, clenching, hairy butt. They were like animals rutting!

Outside the bathroom, in the hallway they’d just run down, comes the sound of footsteps. Heavy ones. Closer, and closer…

Rose wrinkles her nose and brow at Freddie, then makes a bit of a flicking motion at the boy while Emily reloads the pipe. "C’mon," the brunette without the glasses says to the other girl, "let’s walk down to the point. We’ll be back, Freddie. You enjoy your sandwich."

As the pair wanders down closer to the water, to the bit of shore that juts further into the river, Fred hears the rumble of the V8 back in the parking lot cease. A car door closes, and a tall young man in a tight white t-shirt gets out of the IROC Z. As he starts winding down to the picnic / make out area, Solomon sees that Marco has been hitting the gym. The guy is 6’2" and must be 250lbs. He’s a piece of beef.

"Fred, it’s been a while," the weedy-mustached nineteen-year-old says. "Where are they going?" he asks, gesturing to the girls. "That chick has weed, right? Rose told me she’d have weed."

Down at the point, Emily relights the freshly-packed pipe, and Rose takes a deep hit. It’s clear she knows what she’s doing, and she holds the smoke a long time before releasing it.

"Oh yeah. Nice… oh… oh yeah. This is good shit!" she says with a smile. "Where’d you get it?"

After Emily answers, Rose looks back at Freddie and says what she pulled the other teen with her to say. "Hey… I know this is kind of weird, right? The two of us… both here. I thought Fred might have been interested in me. Maybe you thought he was interested in you. But… he’s kind of a jackass? I think we should both ditch him."

Another hit and the Mary Jane really starts to cloud Rose’s mind. She steps in closer to Emily, so that her breasts brush against the other girl’s. She tilts her head, perhaps inviting a kiss.

"Or we could make out. Make him watch."

The Roadside (Zach)

Abby’s text response is immediate.

Abby: what? Are you okay
Abby: can you call 911? Do you want me to call 911?!
Back in meatspace, the scene grows increasingly weirder as the SUV moves along at a crawl, matching Zach’s pace.

"Okay, kid. Suit yourself. I know your momma has probably told you to not ride with strangers and all that, right? I get it." The man then says something quietly to the driver, and the SUV pulls forward — and then over onto the shoulder, blocking the teen’s path. The talkative one gets out of the vehicle, and he’s got his phone in his hands. He holds it up so Zach can see it. It’s a zoomed-in picture of Emily and Steve Richardsen. Looks like maybe a posed family photo from a couple of years ago?

"Hey. Sorry to bother you, but we’re actually looking for someone. These two kids. Both high school age. You know ‘em? The girl is good with numbers, and, well, she won this contest and we’ve been looking for her to arrange the prize money."

"I don't know," Zach lies. "I might have seen the guy at school before, but I'm not sure. I'm new in town so I don't know that many people yet." He feels sweat run down his back. What the hell did Emily get herself into?

He then holds up his own phone, not showing the man his screen, and takes a step backwards, away from him. If the man follows, Zach will try to keep a bit of distance. "Look, I'm calling my dad now. I'm feeling a bit weird about this."
Obviously, he doesn't call his dad. He can't. Not if he wants to leave the house again at some point this year. Instead, he calls Abby. She'd pick up pretty much immediately, so unless the man interferes, Zach is going to say into the phone as soon as the connection is made, "Dad? It's Aaron." He's using the first name that comes to his mind that's not his own. "Can you come and pick me up after all? You know where I went."

Freddie's nervous stomach rolls over when Marco approaches him, despite the mellowing influence of the pot. He doesn't acknowledge the hello other than a nod, but right away says, "They're just going to talk about me I think. Rose said she's got weed? Well, you can see they're smoking some now."

His instincts that this Rose girl was not worth the trouble are panning out. Dating this douche bag, and narcing on Emily are high crimes. He decides to withdraw the offer, he doesn't want that kind of drama in a high profile venue like Homecoming.

His bloodshot eyes turn to the Z28. "Why don't you show me your car? A Camaro right? Sweet looking ride." Where the hell did that come from? Stupid pot.
