"Oh, right! We are! You… want to go as a trio? What would the people say, Fred?" she jokes!

"Why don’t you just talk to her right now! Or…" she casts a conspiratorial eye at Wendy.

"We could speak to her! Or we could all speak to her! The trio!"

"We could!" Wendy follows up, encouraging Fred!

Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

Freddie remembers the look that Lily gave him when he was checking out Wendy, and suddenly knows he stepped in it, and says, "It was unfair for me to try and weasel between you two. You'll look great together, hot even. Who doesn't like cute girl-girl couples?"

He laughs to cover his own embarrassment.

When Lily offers to speak to Priya, he sighs. "Thanks, that's really sweet. I just want to talk to her, you know? Not, like exchange information. If she's mad at me, then I want her to say that to me, and maybe she'll get it off her chest and feel better about everything, does that make sense?"

He puts his palms over his eyes, feeling his stomach surge with guilt. "I'm an idiot." He digs an antacid from his pocket and dry chews it.

"I was attacked, Emily," Zach reminds her. He's already grabbing her arm with one hand to stop her from leaving when he realizes that he might be going too far.

Emily attempts to shake off Zach's attempt to stop her and if she gets by him she strides toward the bathroom and says over her shoulder, "Look I'm sorry that happened to you but I really have to go unless you want to clean it up. I'm sure those goons won't bother you anymore."

She had answered Zach's question well enough in her mind. Her parents would handle it. Somehow they always managed to fix things. Always managed to stay one step ahead of disaster.

Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

When Emily shakes Zach's hand off, he lets her go. She hadn't answered his questions well enough in his mind. But there is still one more person he could ask, who might be a bit more forthcoming if Zach is lucky, even if they don't know each other all that well.

After Emily has left the cafeteria, Zach looks around, trying to find Steve. If he can spot him, he walks over to where he's sitting and asks, "Hey man, can I talk to you for a second. Alone?"

Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

Emily finds a stall and starts frantically typing to her mother.

We've been made. Some goons roughed up one of my friends. They have a photo of me and Steve! That's NOT ok. Call me right back! I'm scared.

She decides to wait in the stall, wishing she had a joint. Maybe one of the other girls would come in with one and they could smoke it out the window. It calmed her nerves and they were very frazzled at the moment.

Lily goes bright red, and simply stares, stock still, into her plastic, gross lunch.

"Yeah…" she finally answers, when he mentions that he wants Priya to get it off her chest.

"Yeah. Better to let her… get it all out. Whatever it is."

She clears her throat then, and chances a side eye at Wendy.

"I mean… we’re all idiots at this age, right? That’s kind of the whole point."

Her face still bright red, she makes a cover for herself.

"Phew! It’s hot in here!"

Emily waits -- and waits -- for a response from her mother. But after a few minutes, she can tell one isn't coming. Either her mom doesn't have her phone on her, she let it run out of battery again, or...

Emily didn't like thinking about that third option.

At varying points in the conversation with Fred, Wendy is smiling and laughing, she's looking away from the boy and her friend in embarrassment, and she blushes a little when Fred calls them cute... and harder when Lily also turns red.

"It is!" she finally says, standing up, intending to clear her tray. "Really hot! We should get to--"

Clutch

"Yo yo, Freddie boy! I gots news!" Clutch say from behind Wendy, making her jump and yelp a little. The tall volleyball player ignores her as he brushes past her, so he and Fred can clasp hands loudly in bro-like fashion. "I got the dope, man! I know who she's going with! You gotta guess. You gotta guess!"

As he says this, Clutch has his back to Lily and Wendy... more or less behaving like they aren't there.

"Uh..." Steve barely manages when Zach addresses him. The boy was glued to his phone, and wasn't expecting anyone to talk to him at his secluded corner table. He has pizza stains -- or some kind of red stains -- on his chin without seeming to know about them. "Uhhhhmm -- Zach, right? You're Rose's brother? What's... what's up man? What can I do for you?"

Zach looks briefly surprised at this. He would have expected Steve to know him more as Emily's friend, but he nods as he takes the seat opposite Steve. "You know Rose?" he asks, rubbing his own chin with his thumb to indicate to Steve about the pizza stains.

He decides to go for a slightly less direct approach than he did with Emily. Apparently, that might be necessary if he wants to find out anything. "I'm sure Emily mentioned that I'm taking her to Homecoming," he says. Then, after briefly trying to figure out how to continue, he awkwardly asks, "You know I care about her, right?"

Freddie claps him on the shoulder. "You're killing me, who is it?" Memories of Marco swim in his mind how he said Rose gave him head, then the image of Priya's head bobbing up and down in the front seat of that beater Camaro. The sudden dichotomous feeling of imagined betrayal that hasn't happened rams him enough he feels faint. "Is it you?"

Emily twirls in a tight circle, eyes glued to her phone as she wills it to ring.

"Fucking hell!" she says quietly while now dialing her dad. As she waits she realizes that she should text Steve too.

Steve! We have a problem. Don't talk to anyone! Zach has a photo of us from some goons that roughed him up. Where are mom and dad???

Lily catches Wendy as she stumbles from being barged by. She waits a moment, and listens in on the conversation, deciding not to say something snarky just yet.

Then there’s a series of hand gestures and silent speaking to Wendy.

Alright. But come back. Maybe we should…

A shrug then.

… make sure he’s okay?! Shhh… Go, go! I’ll stay here. Be quick!

Steve, not picking up the pizza glorp clue, nods, a little wide-eyed at Zach. "Yeah, I know her. And what? Emily?" The boy looks like he's just been asked a quiz question after waking up in class. "You're going to the Homecoming dance with my sister?"

At that moment, Steve's phone bzzzert-bzzzert-bzzzerts twice, and he looks at his texts. He goes a little pale when he reads it.

"Um... Zach, sorry, but that's Emily now. I think she needs my help. I gotta go!"

Then he's texting back.

Where are you? I haven't seen mom and dad since we left the house.

"Uh, what?! No brah! I wouldn't do that to you. I mean Priya's hot, but the chance of getting in her pants or feeling up those titties now is virtually nil, right? You made sure of that, dude!"

Realizing that Wendy and Lily are present, Clutch suddenly offers a short wave to both of them. "Oh, hey you two."

Then, back to Fred, he says, "So, so -- it's Moore, man, Dave Moore! The QB! I heard he and Kelly broke up, so he's on the hunt!"

Wide-eyed as she looks at Lily, Wendy admits she doesn't know what her friend is suggesting they get up to. "What?!" she whispers.

Lily waves back overly-sweet. Once he’s turned back around, she pretends to stick a finger down her throat and get sick.

"He might be… you know… upset!" she whispers back.

"About the…"

Priya thing… she mouths, so she can read Lily’s lips.

"Shouldn’t we stay, and make sure he’s okay?" she say, with a shrug!

Steve! Something bad is going down. We should get home. Cut class & go. Those goons fuck, and they aren't answering. I'm in the girl's room. I'll meet u at the van. Hurry and don't say anything to any1.

Emily hightails it out of the bathroom hoping no one spots her and if they do fuck 'em. She's leaving with Steve.

"Moore's not a bad guy. I mean, I'm sure I can take him," Freddie laughs because it's so ridiculous. "Thanks Clutch, you always come through. Call me later, we haven't done a COD kill squad in a couple weeks."

He winks at the two girls, engaged in their secret language of half spoken dialog.

Zach sighs. He'd really been hoping to get a chance to talk to Steve, but that seems like it's not an option anymore. At least not right now. Rather than repeat what he did with Emily, he says, "Steve, I mean it. If Emily... If you are in trouble... If I can help..." He doesn't finish but the implication is hopefully clear.

When Steve moves to get up, Zach interrupts him with a quick, "Wait." He leans over the table and cleans Steve's chin with his own thumb. "Pizza," he explains. Then he gestures for the boy to go help out his sister. "Let me know if everything's alright. Please."
