Emily smiles devilishly at the figure outside. She's still pretty sure it's a gag to scare the players. She continues to watch the gamers, waiting for them to see and be terrified by the "killer' on the other side of the glass door but her enjoyment was to be shortlived.

Looking outside again she sees two men behind the girl. Suddenly Emily's heart feels like it's bouncing against her chest. Her mouth goes dry. She can barely swallow. Ignoring Zach's comment about Gromn she cries,"Zach, Zach! Are those the guys that shoved you? The guys that had the photo of me and Steve? Can you see them? Is that them?" She had to wonder if they were here for her. And why here at a house full of people? What was going on?

"Shit shit shit. I bet they are after me. Fuck." Emily knocks over her chair as she shoots up and away from the table and hightails it to the bathroom to lock herself in.

Freddie's head is filled suddenly with the crazy jokingly-concocted conspiracy theories he's been softballing. The encounter with Chandling has shown him how far crazy can go, and with the silhouette in the rain (bringing him memories of the crash, the death), he could be excused if he yelps a little.

"Shoved you??" Lily asks as it’s the first she’s heard of it. She’s keeping one eye on the figures outside.

"And after you??!" she says, thoroughly confused by what Emily is talking about.

"What the hell are you guys talking about?" she asks, stepping in front of Wendy, so that she’s between her and the figure beyond the glass.

"Who the fuck are they?" she asks, looking to Freddie, as if he might know.

Then she looks around the room for something heavy. She grabs a pool cue and resumes her position between Wendy and the glass door.

"Freddie… Have you got a gun somewhere around here? That might scare them off!" Her eyes go to the hatchet as she asks, and the pool cue suddenly doesn’t feel sufficient.

"A gun? What the fuck?" He thinks about that. His dad had one in his nightstand, but would Belinda have kept that there? "I'll go get it."

He dials 911 on his skeevy Cricket service as he runs up the stairs. Someone tried to grab Emily and Steve? And got violent with Zach? What's going on?

The Basement

A lot happens in that span of seconds, when the lights go off and the figure outside is revealed. Exclamations are made, Zach is up out of his chair, Lily arms herself, Emily bolts, Wendy's under the table, Fred is running for the stairs, Aaron looks mortified...

The figure raises its arms as it smiles, holding the axe and the trowel out to the sides... before pointing them at Lily.

Behind them, in the shadows, two other figures are visible to the girl with the pool cue. Emily saw them too, but now the bathroom door is between her and the excitement...

Zach gets Shaken. Also, pulling Init Cards.

Outside Belinda's Bedroom

It doesn't take Fred long to tear upstairs, run through the kitchen, then take the stairs that lead to the bedrooms two at a time before he finds himself approaching his stepmother's closed bedroom door...
OOC:
I've assumed you've spend the whole turn moving / Running, Fred. Let me know if that's not true. Roll a d6 for your extra movement, and on a 4-6, you'll end up right at the door -- please make a Notice roll and let me know if you're opening the door. If you get a 1-3, you'll need to spend some time next turn moving to the door. Make sense?

Outside Belinda's Bedroom

Freddie tears through the house. His physio has been helping him recover but he can feel instantly the loss of athleticism.

When he gets to Belinda's room, he nearly hesitates, respecting her privacy, listens for a split second but then continues at full speed.

Putting her head under the table, Lily shouts to Wendy:

"Move! Upstairs!"

And then she tries to push the table up against the glass door, making a more solid barrier between them… and them.

The shadowy figures do something shadowy. Emily, what are you doing in the bathroom? You're up.
Apr 4, 2023 5:24 pm
Emily sits wedged between the toilet and the wall, biting her nails as she tries to hear what's going on. It's not like this is the first time the family has been pursued given their type of work, but this was her alone and she had already been spooked by the photo.

Grabbing her cell phone she punches out 911 and hopes it's the right move. There was no time to analyze her options.

"Uh, help!" Emily whisper shouts to the 911 dispatcher. "I need help. I'm at a friend's and there are intruders outside."

Zach stares at the people outside the window, frozen in place for a moment, but then he manages to snap out of it. Instinctively, he grabs Aaron's hand and pulls him into a corner where he positions himself in front of Aaron. Is it a good hiding spot or will it help them defend themselves? Not at all. Is he too scared to come up with anything else? Definitely.

The Pathfinder materials go flying as Lily wrestles and bumps the table over towards the sliding doors, and as virtually everyone else flees the immediate vicinity. So then Lily is there, armed with her pool cue, nearly face to face with some psycho as Emily, Fred, Wendy, Zach and Aaron all retreat to different parts of the basement and house.

In the bathroom, Emily gets through to 911, starting the near-immediate dispatching of help to the Solomon residence. Wendy, terrified, goes on all-fours up the stairs, and Zach and Aaron back into the shadows, holding one another as the figure outside raises the hatchet and waves it around, threatening the glass.

Aaron Connery
"We should help her!" Connery says to the boy holding tight to his hand. "She's alone out there!" he adds, but his body isn't following through on his words -- he's scared. And maybe, just maybe, it feels good to be so close to his friend.

And that's when Lily, ferocious little Lily, notices a few things.

The axe-murderer... isn't very tall. Or very big at all, really. Mabye they are Lily's size... or even a little smaller. They're also hesitating strangely. Long seconds have now passed since the first moment of terror when everyone freaked... and the figure is just sort of still hanging around outside, waving the axe in a way that makes it seem like they don't really know how to handle the weapon.

Before Lily can really make sense of what she's seeing, one of the two shadowy figures behind the slicker-wearing nutball suddenly bolts to action, running from the trees where they were hiding, sprinting across the backyard quickly. It looks they intend to slam straight into the... the... into one of Freddie's sisters, Lily suddenly sees!

It's a long way to run, though, and the fast-moving figure rushing the Solomon girl slips in the wet and stumbles through the yard, tripping a little on a hose and knocking a lawn chair and small table flying with their momentum. The girl with the hatchet and trowel hears something behind her, and turns to face what she discovers to be a much larger attacker...
OOC:
End of Round 1. Zach recovers from being Shaken.

Round 2, pulling cards. Init order is Zach (with a Joker, can go whenever he wants), Lily, Fred, Wendy and Aaron, the Shadowy Figures, the Axe-Wielder, and finally Emily. With the Joker pulled, I'll reshuffle the init deck.

Outside Belinda's Bedroom

Upstairs, Fred hears the bath running as he gets to his smokin' hot stepmother's bedroom door, and he half-processes what that might mean as he rushes through the door and into the room.

It's a lavishly decorated bedroom. There's the huge four-poster bed, expensive art on the walls, high-end dressers and vanities, a walk-in closet, and the master bath. The door to the master bathroom is open, and while Freddie can't see into the room from his vantage point near the door, he can hear the water running clearly, he can see and feel the steam in the air, and there's some indication of motion in the bathroom, someone moving and creating enticing shadows.

All the way across the room, past that open door: the bedside table on what used to be his father's side of the bed. Is it still there, the gun?
OOC:
Your move, Fredster. And forgot -- Zach is at +2 to actions this round because of the Joker, and EVERYONE gets a Benny!

"Shit!" Lily shrieks. "Fred! Quick!"

She lunges for the table and jolts it out of the way carelessly. She unlatches the door, and throws it open too.

And while the figure is distracted with the commotion, Lily puts her all into a swing of the cue aimed at the head.

Meanwhile, Emily feels a teensy bit better knowing that the cops are on their way. She wonders if she should stay put or take a peek. She thinks she hears a commotion beyond the bathroom door. Maybe it's the kids running up and down the stairs, a shriek or two, she's not sure.
Getting a hold of herself, it not being her first rodeo, she gently turns the knob and pushes the door open, listening and peering out through the crack, deciding to remain standing there that way as she waits for the cops to show up.
Apr 6, 2023 6:03 pm
Fred holds a hand to the side, to give himself a defense if she sees him, and races across the room. He tries to be silent, but regardless, he's going for the nightstand and the possible gun.

Holding his hand there and blocking that potentially ecstatic view is the hardest thing he's ever had to do in his life, swear to God!

The Basement

When the door slides open, Lily is struck with just how cold and wet it is outside -- the weather has really turned since suppertime. But that doesn't stop the girl from stepping out into the drizzle and just clocking the hatchet-wielding figure with her pool cue...
OOC:
Lily, the axe murderer being distracted by the other figure has given you THE DROP. +4 to hit, and +4 to damage. For a pool cue, let's call that a Medium Improvised Weapon, which does STR + d6 damage. The target's Parry was 2 and your result was 8, so that's also a raise, which does another 1d6... and you get the +4 from The Drop. So, roll some damage dice: 1d4+2d6+4.
