Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

"They're not a couple. They're just friends," Zach says, his voice sharp as he feels like he needs to defend his sister. Of course, he's aware that friends doesn't quite cover those two. But they're also not an actual couple, so he's not lying, he tells himself. "And you can call it whatever you want. I'm not answering any more questions until my parents get here." He crosses his arms, then uncrosses them when that quickly feels awkward. "How are Debby and Marco?" he then asks. "Will they be alright? When will we be able to see them?"

Freddie thinks about it, and tries not to think about the sheriffs 'skinny' anywhere near Belinda.

"I don't know what Debby was doing. She's been unconscious since I knew it was her outside. I thought she was ... Well, hurt bad. And Marco, sure, he and I know each other. Had a few runs in when we were young, same school. Never had much care for him as a boy and as a man doesn't seem like he's improved much. I know he says he has been macking on Rose, Zach's younger sister. She hangs out with him an awful lot."

Freddie is careful about that.

"Are you detaining me? Can I leave? If not, I want a lawyer. If I can leave, I'm out of here. Make sense?" She wants to end that sentence with motherfucker but he's not getting another word out of her without a lawyer or her parents. She knows her rights. God knows they were drilled into her enough by her father.

"Thats who I was prayin’ to, sir. Who else ? Why… was I not supposed to do that?" she puts her head in her hands.

"Momma always taught me to pray to the good lord when times were bad! Like… like when I thought we were getting attacked."

When he's being led into the waiting are, Zach waits until Rose is also returned there, then hugs her. "Are you okay?" he asks his little sister. She always acts pretty tough but between Marco getting hurt and being interrogated, today was a pretty rough day for her. He sticks close to her if she lets him as he checks on Aaron and the rest of his friends while keeping as far away from Akins as he can.

Zach throws Aaron a nervous smile as he's holding Rose in his arms. He then turns back towards her when she speaks. "I know, Rosie," he says. "I'm really sorry for what happened. But Marco will be alright."
Keeping Rose close, he then walks up to Freddy. "Hey man," he says quietly. "I'm glad Debby will be okay. I... I'm sorry for how things played out. If you need anything...?"

Finally, out of that claustrophobic interrogation room, Emily listens to Aikin's update, sees that the others survived their own Q&A, then makes a bee-line for Freddie. "That's a relief about Debby, huh?"

Unfortunately, just then her parents make an appearance and they don't look happy for so many obvious reasons. Her mother is glaring daggers at her and dad wears his bored and annoyed expression but his eyes show disappointment.

"Can we just leave please?" she pleads in the hopes that she can fend off a scene in the police station.

He thanks Zach for his kind words and says, "Gonna go see her. You alright?"

Freddie gets in the car with Belinda. He marvels at the plush leather interior of the Range Rover. "Thanks for picking me up. Can we go to the hospital? If that asshat sheriff kept me past visiting hours, I'll ... well, I guess I'll do nothing. But I won't vote for him!"

He leans back, allowing the cold air to finally make him cold. He closes his eyes, and thinks. Emily

He pulls out his phone, texts her.

Going hospital. Debby. Meet river later?

Lily wasn’t sure if Wendy hadn’t been brought in, or if her parents had come and scooped her away before the main culprits had been released, but she wasn’t there when Lily got out.

"I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just trying to keep everyone safe." she says, as she hugs her parents. She knows that now, with a few hours of time to clear her head and arrange the details.

"Just a sec…" she says, and pulls out her phone to message the girl.

"Couldn't bear to see me brought out in handcuffs? 😋

"I'm alright," Zach replies to Freddy uncertainly. "We're both okay. Just worried." He looks over to his parents, then says, "We, or rather I, might be grounded indefinitely after this happened while I still was grounded from the last time I left my house and someone tried to kill me. But if we can, we'll come to the hospital as soon as possible."

He lets Freddy walk off with his family, then says to Rose, "How about you go ask our parents what's going to happen next. They'll be much more likely to be cool if you're the one asking."

He then looks over to Lily, checking if she looks okay. Today must have been difficult for her, after being responsible for hurting her friend's little sister. When she is on her phone, probably texting Wendy, he decides to give her space. Instead, he walks over to Aaron and his mother. He's never met Mrs. Connery before, so he has no idea what she's like. But he smiles at her politely and gives her a nod before addressing Aaron. "Hey," he says softly, resisting the urge to reach out and touch him. "How are you feeling? Was that cop as weird to you as he was to me?"

Emily's eyes follow Freddie as he leaves with the beautiful Belinda. Getting into her parent's car with a huff, she stares out the window until her phone pings with a very pleasant surprise.

Oh, wow. Her heart skips as she thinks of what to text back. He must have snuck that text in so Belinda wouldn't see.

She chuckles inwardly at Freddie's sentence construction or lack thereof.

Biting her bottom lip she wonders what to say without sounding too needy.

Yeah, I'd love to! No, that's definitely too needy. Sure. No, that's too cold.

Instead, she settles for ...
Ok, what time?

Emily taps her foot furiously on the floor, a habit that drives her parents crazy, as she thinks about a response.

Yeah I'm fine. Haha. U did good. Cop was a fucktard.
A fearful thought came to her right after she hit send. What if she got grounded? Her busy foot stopped abruptly.
