Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

Seething now, Emily ignores her parents, slams the car door, stomps to the house, and up to her room where she slams that door too, knocking a picture off the wall. The glass shatters as the frame hits the floor.

"Fucking marvelous," she says, ignoring the broken picture which she hated anyway. Sitting on the bed, leaning against the headboard, she wraps her arms around her knees and vows quietly. "I'm going out tonight if I have to climb out the window."

Emily, when the time comes to escape and rendezvous with Freddie, if that's the plan, that will eventually be either Stealth -2 to escape as your mom is on the lookout... or Athletics to get out via the window. ;)

"Sarah, wait," he says as she heads upstairs. Her leads get back down to the tec room and starts cleaning up the games and the plates and glasses.

He can't bring himself to blame his sisters for anything. He'd forgive them the moon.

"Are you okay? I don't know what happened tonight, not really. Were you and Debby trying to scare us?" He looks at her, concern in his eyes. "My friends and I have been on edge because there's crazy shit going on. What happened to Debby was a nightmare. I'm so sorry."

Abby texts more as she wakes...

These come while Zach is navigating the house quietly, slipping out the back successfully.

The yard is dark and the boy has to be careful to avoid tools left on the ground and the sensor that will turn the lights on in the back. He creeps over to the gate, opens it, and slips outside.

Aaron Connery

Down the street, he sees an old Honda Civic hatchback from the 80s, and there might be someone in it. A quick text to Aaron turns the vehicle's lights on, and the car pulls forward, meeting Zach at his curb.

Reaching over, the boy in the car turns the manual window crank on the passenger side so they can talk.

"Ready?" he says simply, his expression hard to read.

Zach's phone makes a sound.

Abby: What's another word for pirate treasure? WELL I THINK ITS BOOTY!

Sarah quietly returns to the basement with her big brother, though he can really tell she doesn't want to. Her cheeks are red and stained from the visit to the hospital, where she cried again, and she struggles for words when they get downstairs and Fred tries to console her, or get her to open up -- anything.

At first she's stony and will have none of it, but then she starts shaking and crying again, balling her fists as the tears flow and her chest heaves with each rapid, hyperventilated breath. "W-w-we... duh-duh-d-d-didn't m-mean to r-really scare any-anyone!" is all she can manage. "Wuh-wuh-we thought b-be fuh-fuh-funny!"

Freddie sees Sarah break down and that breaks him inside. He gathers her into his arms, although they've never been a hugging family, for reasons.

In a wavering voice, he says, "I'm sorry. This is such a mess. It would have been funny, too. We'll all laugh about it when Debby gets home, you'll see." Tears leak from his eyes, too.

"I love you," he says, unsure he's ever said it out loud before. Since the accident (Murder!) he's walked on egg shells around them, afraid to say too much and wreck his cover story. She knows, doesn't she? I'm her brother, of course she knows. Doesn't she? But has he been gone, emotionally absent when they needed him most?

As he walks over to the car, Zach reads Abby's texts, smiling to himself at his friend's enthusiasm. He misses their sleepovers, evenings spent together gossiping and having fun. Text conversations and occasional calls have taken the place of those, but they're not quite a replacement. They can be fun, however.

Zachary: It's not a booty call, AbbyZachary: Plus, he doesn't know I'm you knowZachary: It's a *date*
Reminding her of why he couldn't sleep with Aaron even if they both wanted puts a bit of a damper on the fun, but not too much. He just focuses on her enthusiasm. And on Aaron's face when he sees the boy.

"Hey!" he says to Aaron, leaning into the window. "That invitation was a surprise. A nice one, though." When his phone buzzes again, he chuckles. "Sorry, that's just my friend." Gesturing to the still closed passenger door through which he's leaning, he asks, "Can I come in?"

Lily tells her parents that she’s just heading out for two seconds to check on Wendy. She expected hesitancy. She got some… but she expected more. Maybe they understood the desire to check she was alright.

She already has the message written. But she only sends it once Wendy has come down.

Sarah hugs Fred and cries for a good long while... and not just about Debby. Then, finally, the girl heads back upstairs, sniffling but feeling a little better.

And that's when Freddie notices he has some other texts on his phone. From Kelly Unger. Shit -- was that only just this past afternoon that all that happened?

Kelly: Heads up. My dad's going to see Romero about what happened.
Kelly: he's pissed. Wants to try and get you suspended or something. He's a douche.
Then the boy sees the two pictures that Kelly sent. One of her bare belly, her lovely navel with her fingers resting on her skin... and a second a little lower on the girl's bare abdomen... with her hand clearly creeping down further.

Kelly: thinking of you... want to come over?

Abby sends one last text that Zach sees before Aaron waves him into the old car.

Abby: Well you better tell him before he finds out the sexy way!
"Who's your friend?" the boy behind the wheel asks as Zach gets in. "It's late. Old... boyfriend?"

Thirty seconds later, the car is pulling away from the curb and there's a bit of an awkward silence in the vehicle... until Aaron clears his throat. "Uh. Thanks for coming out. I'm not... I don't... do this very often." Then, turning to look at Zach as they come to a stop sign in the dark, he adds, "Okay... I've never done this. Where should we go?"

A short time later, when Lily is outside, texting Fred in the frosty night air, Wendy arrives. She's wearing flannel jammie bottoms, Mr. BunBun slippers, and the tank top she was wearing in bed.. over which she's wearing the hoodie she quietly grabbed on her way the way out the door. Her brother's.

"My parents would FFFFFFLIP if they knew I was out here," she whispers as she darts up to her friend. Wendy and her family only live up the street, but late night shenanigans are not their style.

"Did you write Fred yet? What did he say?"

Zach reads Abby's last text and he feels an uncomfortable turn in his stomach. Of course he'd have to tell Aaron. Eventually. But the thought scares him. He just hopes his nervousness doesn't show on his face as he climbs into the car.
"Oh," he says in response to the cute boy's question. "No, just... No, her name is Abby. She's my oldest friend growing up, from my old town." He swallows nervously. "I've never had a boyfriend."

He lets out a breath and looks ahead for a moment but when the stop sign halts the car, he turns to Aaron the same moment Aaron turns to him. "I, well, you, uhm, said you know a place?" Why can't I sound cool when I'm around Aaron? He swallows, then puts his hand on top of the one Aaron has on the gear shift. Trying to sound like his heart is not beating twice as fast as its supposed to in his chest, he says, "Anywhere."

Lily passes the phone over to show Wendy. She scrunches up her face, and points out the words:

"He hasn’t seen it yet. And… just tell your parents I’m dropping over your…" she taps her pockets to see what’s inside. She curses herself for not bringing a prop.

"… lip balm. Managed to save it from being processed into evidence!" she says with a smirk then.

Freddie watches Sarah go upstairs, then grabs his phone to text Emily.

Free now. Home. Still want to meet?

Then he sees the other texts.

To Lily: She seems to be ok. Hope to bring her home tomorrow. Pathfinder isn't supposed to end up in real fights, just so you know 😆

Then the tantalizing teases from Kelly.

He lifts his shirt, lowers his shorts on his hip, and takes a snap of the reflection in the glass doors. He sends that to her.

Still clutching her knees the phone buzzes and scares Emily out of her haze which had become a mix of fatigue, horniness, and anger. Anger at her parents, the asshole sheriff, and anyone else she could think of.

"Finally!" she blurts out when she sees the text is from Freddie. A jolt of excitement snaps her out of her funk. She grabs a prerolled joint from her stash, switches to a front clasping bra, checks herself in the mirror, texts Freddie back with, How about now? I'm on my way, and slowly creeps down the stairs. She knows every squeaky board on the steps just because and tries to avoid them, gritting her teeth as she practically tiptoes toward the door.
