Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

Discovering nothing more in the room, Lily and Zach exit after the boy drops the disturbing harness back to the floor. They close and re-lock the door, then Fred and Emily are at the next... cell? Is that what all these were?

It was the same kind of door, certainly, also locked with a bolt from the outside, and also equipped with a sliding metal viewing plate. This time, though, when Fred opens the plate, there is more to see. It's a similar padded room, likely another place where the mentally infirm were locked so they would not injure their loved ones or themselves, but lying on the floor is a person. The LED light can't quite illuminate the whole cell, but it's not hard to see that a man in a suit lies on his back with his arms over his head... looking like he's been dragged into the room by his feet.

An odor curls Emily's nostrils as she peers at the scene, and suddenly the buzz of many flies sounds. A few streak straight towards the white light of the girl's phone, attracted to it through the small square opening in the door...

"Jesus! What’s in there?" Lily asks, wafting away some of the flies that scatter out of the spy hole!

"What is it?" she says, moving into to take her own peek when the space opens up!

"I think it's a dead man, by the smell. Looks like he was drug in. Drug? Dragged?"

Freddie doesn't need to see a body. The buzz of the flies and he suddenly flashes back to that night in the rain, then the cliff... He steps back, and takes a breath.

"Is he alive? We have to check, don't we?"

"There's someone in there?" Zach asks. The door is too crowded for him to be able to get a peek inside. "Shit. But yes, we do need to check. We can't just leave someone in there. But Lily, keep your bat ready, just in case." His heart is thrumming in his chest. "You guys don't think it's one of our teachers, right?"

"Jesus the stink!" Emily yanks her phone back and swats at the flies, her face scrunched up in disgust.

"It's a dead someone but I couldn't see well enough. Whatever, whoever it is has got to be dead and for a while too with that level of stench and all these flies. This shit is just getting worse," The girl says, one hand blocking her nose and mouth from the odor. "What the hell are we getting into?"

"Dragged." Lily decides, before nodding to the others about opening it up.

"Who gets to check?" she asks, wondering if they should rock paper, scissors for it. She thinks about her uncle then, and the reporter spirit. Going where the story takes her:

"I’ll… I can do it."

Freddie gets set to work his muscles, but finds the door to be less rusty than the first one. He opens it, and then when the others are ready, grabs the door. Holding his chest, sore from the still-healing soft tissue injuries, (but better by far than they were thanks to the gym teachers assistance) he opens the door.

Zach is trying to collect the courage to volunteer, when Lily offers first. He tries not to sigh in relief that he won't have to be the one to check a dead body. "Alright, Lily, you go for it," he says, forcing his voice steady. "I'm backing you up. We all are." He holds his bat tight in his hand. He also quickly checks his phone to see if his message to Abby has gone through by now.

Lily turns up the light on her own phone, and passes the baseball bat to one of the others!

"Get ready! You know… in case it’s a zombie." she says, trying to sound brave and funny, somewhat unconvincingly.

"For fuck sake, Lilly. Zombies are for movies and TV. Besides, I've seen a dead body. Apart from the smell depending on how long they've been dead, it's not that traumatic to look at. I mean their mouths are open and their eyes, well .... Anyway it's the idea that there are bodies in here that's fucked up. This whole place is looney. And there's a connection to this building and the school I can feel it. And it's not the tunnels I'm talking about. The teacher's are up to something."

Sure she's nervous and scared, way more than she lets on, but if they all lose it, they could end up in one of these rooms.

"What the...?" Zach asks, turning to Emily. "How have you seen a dead body before?"
Jul 9, 2023 3:59 pm
Freddie snorts. "Looney. That's funny."

Who was she trying to impress? Freddie with her dead body admission? She was under a lot of pressure and not thinking clearly but she definitely shouldn't have shared that. Instead, Freddie is laughing at her.

"Nevermind that now Zach. Lilly, you going in or what?" she asks, baseball bat poised and ready to hit something.

As the door opens and Lily goes in first, the smell worsens -- as does the buzz of flies, as dozens of the things take flight from the body as Palmer approaches. The things are nasty as they fly into, land on, and bounce off anyone coming into the room, seeming particularly interested in exposed orifices. The smell is bad, but not overwhelming -- the man on the floor does not seem like he's been dead for an extended period time, and no rot is visible on his just-beginning-to-bloat features... which Lily thinks she recognizes.

The silver hair and beard... it can only be one man. It's Vice Principal Kilvert, and he's lying on a blood-soaked tarp.
OOC:
Without getting closer / investigating further, it's impossible to tell what might have killed him.

"It’s…" she starts, realizing too late that attempting to speak would cause her to puke. She chokes it down, and heaves slightly before continuing "… It’s Kilvert. He’s definitely…" saliva builds up again, lubricating the way for a nice dose of vomit. She struggles to keep it down again. "… dead."

She wafts the bugs away constantly. Nevertheless, she approaches.

"Oh shit," Zach says, feeling a cold shiver down his back, along with a queasiness that comes not just from the flies and the smell. When Lily approaches the body again, Zach takes a step after her. "Lil," he says, reaching out a hand to put on her back. "Leave him. Let's close the door again. Nothing we can do here. You don't need to look again."

Lily jumps at the sudden contact, the talk of zombies spooking get suddenly.

"Jesus! Oh…" she pants, shining the light into Zach’s eyes. "… you scared me! We should really check what killed him… right?"

Freddie makes sure he won't get locked in. "Emily hold the door, I'll science the shit out of this."

He takes a deep breath and goes in. "I wanted to be a biology major. Best get to it. Starts here. Shouldn't be talking. Wasting air."

Tucking his face under his shirt, which doesn't really help, except for the orifice seeking flies, he examines Kilvert for signs of wounds.

Except, this isn't dissecting cow eyes at all!

"Sorry," Zach mumbles to Lily just as Fred leans down and begins investigating Kilvert's body. "Be careful," he tells his friend. "Can't you get, like, diseases from dead bodies?"
Jul 10, 2023 5:34 am
Fred has seen dead bodies before too. He's smelled blood. He's seen eyes the light has gone out of -- like Kilvert's now.

The amount of blood behind the man's head and in his hair is the tip-off. Someone or something struck the vice principal from behind, crushing his skull, partly caving it in...
OOC:
Fred, because of your Secret, how do you feel about making a Fear (Spirit) check here?

Zach: still no service.
Alone in the hallway now, Emily hears... something. A thumping, or pounding? Coming from down the hall, likely one of the other doors. And then, perhaps more spine-tinglingly, her glance down the hall reveals a glimmer of reddish light in the deep gloom -- well beyond the range of her phone light, but moving, shifting.
