As soon as he says those words, he tightens his hug into a firm grip on the girl. He then tries to move towards the van, pulling her with him.
"Is that the signal?" she asks, more than once, as Rose and Zach go back and forth.
Then Zach grabs her, and then it’s all action.
"Shit! Shit! Are we meant to be making a getaway?" she stammers, not sure what the next step of Zach’s plan is.
She sticks the van into drive, and tries to pull the thing up a little closer to Zach!

Keeping his speed down and watching the unpaved road carefully, Fred successfully navigates up the road about halfway to the top -- where presumably the Jeep was still parked. It's really just a pair of ruts he's following, and the teen is relieved that he hasn't gotten stuck yet as his headlights illuminate the back of his stepmother's Range Rover. It's pulled over to the side of the trail; Fred might be able to squeeze by without putting the Tesla off the road and getting it hung up.
The SUV is dark and there's no sign of Belinda or her passenger. The surrounding pine woods are dark and forbidden, doing their very best to look uninviting.
Rose Tidwell

"Go go go!" Wendy calls to her friend as she prepares to slide open the side door of the minivan, knowing full well what their friend was planning to do. Lily manages just fine to get the Caravan in gear, and suddenly the van lurches and accelerates towards Zach and Rosie!
"Janina! What are you doing?!" the boy's sister cries when he grabs her, "let me go! Let me go, Janina!"
She's not just crying out, though, she's fighting, is Rose, trying to break her brother's hold on her. At that same moment -- and Zach, Wendy, and Lily all see this, a door on the side of the school, an emergency exit, busts open and several figures pour out into the twilight, running headlong towards the front doors where Zach and his sibling wrestle!

Still, Emily was spooked by the grating twigs as they screeched along the side of the car, and the eerie darkness illuminated only by the Tesla's headlights.
Later when they come upon the vehicle,"There's the SUV! Where the heck are they? I don't like this, Freddie. Not one bit."
"They've got to be near, they weren't that far ahead. Let's get out and listen for cracking brush." He's grateful for his near silent electric car; a big beater like Emily's van would have drawn all ears and warned of an incoming party.

Rosie is still fighting and struggling as Lily roars up in the van and screeches to a halt, and while Wendy is fumbling to get the sliding door open, Zach manages to grab the handle and open it with one hand while dragging his sister inside with the other. The two of them stumble inside, falling into the bench seat while Wendy yelps and tries to work around them to close the door before the racing figures arrive.
Watching anxiously during all this, her foot mashed on the brake but ready to move to the gas in a split second, Lily sees those figures run beneath one of school's exterior lights, and recognizes them! Coach Murdock, Principal Romero, and -- Mr. Levitt! Her former favorite teacher lags behind, but Murdock and Romeo are fast, covering ground quickly as Rose is pulled into into the van.
"Stop!" Romero shouts, before screwing up his face, hawking to clear his throat, and then barfing a jet of nastiness at Wendy in the open door!
He's too far away, though, and the atrocious spray surging out of his mouth and nose falls short -- causing Coach Murdock to slip and fall in the suddenly underfoot pool. The man was about to try and grab Wendy or maybe Rose's kicking legs, but then he's on the ground and sliding -- part way under the van!
Edit: And woof, sorry for all those updates. That's a fumble for Romero... which neutralized Murdock's action. And put him in harm's way. Rosie and Wendy are up next, but for clarity I'll craft a new post.

Fred grabs the flashlight and beacon from the Tesla's emergency kit, then he and Emily get out to see what they can see. The woods are anything but quiet -- there's the steady, almost electric buzz of crickets, frogs, and other night creatures, but Emily hears something else, something stranger, something artificial-sounding.
She's trying to figure out what that is as they approach the Range Rover and discover it both empty and unlocked. Fred walks past something that the girl sees, a piece of cloth perhaps, and when she bends to inspect the article she discovers a pair of black panties -- a G-string no less. Then she sees footprints that suggest what might have happened here, near the rear quarter panel -- a man's boot impressions behind a woman's heels, both of them facing in the same direction...
Zach tries to keep his hold on Rose.

He points further up the path. "This is where I found Polensky's blue jeep, and there was lipstick in the front. Then you saw him and Romanov looking like they'd had an overnighter, right?"
He looks at Em, smiling. "Maybe this is the secret teacher sex club. Who do you think was with my mom? Step mom?"
Fred doesn’t see it — too much on his mind, perhaps — but Emily does. Tracks that lead into the woods. A footprint, a snapped branch. It looks like Belinda and whoever she’s with went straight into the woods.
"Fred, hear that?" The girl stands and slowly whirls around. "I don't like it. Something is ... I dunno ...off." Following Freddie she sees ... "Are those ... ewwwww! Freddie YUK! Don't touch them. Gross!"
Crouching above the footprints her mind slowly puts two and two together. "Ewwww. They were doing it, right here against the car."
Never mind that Emily would have wanted to be doing that very same thing with Freddie under entirely different circumstances.
"Christ," she mutters, blowing out a long breath as her eyes continue to scan the area illuminated by Freddie's light. "Look! Footsteps! They went that way after their quickie. Maybe they wanted another go at it." Emily fakes a laugh and starts following the tracks.
"Sorry. I know she's your stepmom. Secret sex club. That's funny but you'd know better than I who the guy is."
She notices Mr. Levitt, but there was no real time to process all that right now. This was a getaway!
