"I don't like it," Emily says as they pull up to the mostly dark house.

"They are always home at this hour. Always. There's no car either. Fuck. Something is wrong. That one light. Doesn't seem right. I'm scared Freddie, really scared."

Freddie listens and says, "They're not after me, so get behind the wheel. I'll check it out, take some pics. If I signal you just get out of here. Listen this time, I'll be okay. We'll meet at the Banks, okay?"

He kisses her and if she agrees, he'll sneak over to peek in the windows.

Emily is already out of the car and on her way toward the house, creeping slowly as she nears the door, eyes and ears watching and listening.

Freddie can't fault her that, he would want to do the same. Even if it's the WRONG CALL, its her call to make.

"Okay, let's be quiet and see what's what. Those people after you mean serious business." She can feel how he says that that he means SRS BSNS.

Officer Bentley and the girl's parents follow Lily over to Emily's van, and after unlocking the vehicle, the teen pulls the sliding door aside to reveal -- indeed, a nasty stew of slowly drying vomit that stinks to high heaven.

"Uh," Yvonne says briefly, bringing her hand to her face, frowning. "What happened in here? Did someone get sick?"

"Lily..." the girl's father says without thinking. "Who's... who's van is this?"

Watching the faces and seeing that she may have made a misstep, Lily pivots.

"Yeah, yeah. It’s Emily’s van. Her brother got sick all over the back of it. Emily asked if she could keep it here until she got a chance to clean it out. Said her parents would be angry with… Steve, I think his name is.

I thought… maybe they’d reported it as stolen. Never mind that. Let’s just get down to the station, right?

Sorry about that, Officer Bentley!" she says, going to close the door and get into the car.

Peeking into Emily's House

As Fred looks in the window, the house he sees is not posh, not compared to what he's used to, or say, the Ungers'. He's looking into the living room, which is lit only by the big screen TV on the wall. Someone is slumped on the sofa in the dark, watching... some kind of raunchy movie with half-naked cheerleaders?

After inspecting and then closing up the van, the Palmers all grab seats in the police car and are quiet as Officer Bentley starts driving them towards the station. In the back, Lily's mom grabs hold of her hand, even as the policewoman asks, "You were all... drinking, then? Nothing to worry about, Lily, I remember being a teenager. But I want to make sure it wasn't anything harder than that, and that everyone is okay. Is Steve okay?"

After Lily answers, the radio chirps and the Sheriff's voice comes on the line. "Akins here. Pick up, Bentley."

"I'm here," the officer answers. "Just picked up Lily Palmer, headed to the station now, sir. Her parents are accompanying."

There's a long pause, and Lily can see a frown creep over Bentley's face, then deepen, before Akins finally responds.

"Change of plans. Head for the school. We have a developing situation, and Palmer has information that could be helpful. Keep your lights off, no sirens. But come quickly."

"Roger that, Sheriff, on my way. Give us ten minutes," Bentley says, slowing to pull a u-turn and head back towards the high school.

"Freddie! What are you seeing?' She's squeezing his hand probably too hard. " I'm almost afraid to look. I am afraid to look."

With her heart pounding loudly in her chest she envisions all the worst scenarios from dead bodies scattered on the floor to a corpse hanging in the hallway.

"I can't really see," he whispers back, and describes the slumped form and the cheerleaders as best he can.

"Does your dad watch such sordid movies? It's probably Steve, isn't it?"

"Slumped like asleep or slumped like dead?" Her whispers are beginning to sound a little hysterical. "Uh ... dad doesn't watch TV. He's always too busy. Mom too. So it's either Steve or a robber taking a TV break."

Fred nods, "A TV break, eh? That doesn't sound like ... you know what, you've got more experience. Are there any weapons around here? A good sturdy shovel maybe?"

Emily pulls out her cell phone and dials Steve's number. Then she texts both her parents and asks them where they are and to come home now.
