"Zach?"

"Zach, are you okay?"

The voice is a hushed whisper. It's dark, it's cold, and Zach's head hurts. It doesn't take him long to figure out who the voice belongs to, though... Aaron Connery. Which meant he didn't get away.

Tidwell is on a cold tile floor in an unlit room. He can barely make out Aaron, beside him, and the shadow of a heavy door that looms in one wall of the small, square, unfurnished cell.

"Aaron," Zach groggily replies as he comes to. There is regret in his voice as he realizes that despite all his efforts, Aaron didn't get away.
He sits upright and looks around. It seems pretty obvious where they are, in the asylum. He decides not to tell Aaron that right away, however. "I'm so sorry," he says to the other boy, sliding closer to him. "You shouldn't even be in this mess. I should never have messaged you, but I was scared and angry and alone and I really wanted to see you." He lets out a shaking breath and wipes at his wet eyes. "I'm so sorry."

Aaron holds his friend close as the emotional boy apologizes. "Hey," he says, trying to be comforting. "Hey -- don't apologize, you were scared, and didn't know this would happen. This -- this is crazy, Zach. Someone's going to find us, right? Someone will have to find us..."

"Of course," Zach promises, leaning into Aaron's embrace. Right now, he's not even worrying that the other boy might feel something he's not supposed to. There are much bigger things to worry about. "I livestreamed our kidnapping, didn't I? I bet my friends have already seen it and Fred or Noah or..." He pauses briefly, then continues, "Lily are already on their way to rescue us." He looks seriously at Aaron, "Just... don't let them do anything to you. I'll try to protect you if I can." He hesitates, then tilts his head and leans forward, aiming for a brief, reassuring kiss.

After her stinky brother leaves she turns to Freddie, opens her phone and the video and watches speechlessly as she angles it so Freddie can see too.

"Those fuckers! IA will be all over their asses when they see this. Shit if that was live.... even better. Akins is fucked!"

She turns the live stream around so the others can watch it, hear Akins and Zach and everything else.

"Didn’t he just ask us to come meet him? Officer Bentley…?"

Standing up, the boy moves in the dark to investigate the door.

"Where do you think we are? This doesn't seem like the jail..."

Zach's video is damning, but also dark, chaotic, and hard to make sense of for people who aren't teenagers. Lily's parents look confused by what they are seeing and hearing, and Bentley, who is driving, doesn't even turn around.

"What is that?" she asks, glancing at the girl in the mirror. "Is that Sheriff Akin?"

Out the window, Lily can see that they are only minutes from the school.

Lily: Arriving to school right now! Akins here. He took Zach. Told Bentley to meet us here.

She wants to say ‘bring guns’, or ‘bring everyone’ but there was no time for much of anything!

"Of course we don't," Zach confirms, getting up after Aaron and hugging him for comfort by the door. "But I got you into this mess. If only one of us can get out of this unharmed, that has to be you."
At the boy's question, Zach frowns and says, "We're in the asylum. We rescued Priya from here earlier." Trying to be encouraging, he doesn't mention that they found Kilvert dead here. Instead, he says, "So my friends know this place and can find us here."

There is no reason to do so, but he sneaks with Emily into her parent's bedroom. There is something intimate and sexy about an adult bed, knowing that they bumped uglies enough to at least produce two kids. He half expects velvet paintings of nude women, and maybe a nightstand drawer full of kink, but barring that level of delicious 70s sleeze, he simply swipes the key from atop the doorframe as she suggested and hands it to her.

▫ On a 2-3, there's only one gun inside, Mrs. Richardsen's Kahr P9, with one box of ammo that has 20 rounds of 9mm remaining.
▫ On a 4-5, that Kahr is present but so is dad's Smith and Wesson .357 revolver, along with 18 rounds in three fast-loaders.
▫ On a 6, the Kahr and the S&W are present, but so is a twelve gauge shotgun, a pump-action Mossberg 500.

Grabbing the Kahr and checking the chamber she says to Freddie, 'Take the box of ammo would ya but gimme some first. I was hoping Dad's revolver would be here too which begs the question, where's his gun? He doesn't take it with him unless he's expecting trouble."

Her mom's pistol now loaded, she glances at the bed, then at Freddie.

"If it was any other time....," and out the bedroom door she reluctantly goes.

The Asylum?

Zach lets out a shaking breath. He already told Aaron most of the truth earlier and right now, they're in a situation that's absurd enough that maybe Aaron will believe the whole thing. "They're aliens, I think," Zach says. "But they're definitely parasites. They can get into people's bodies and take them over. They're probably planning to do that to you. With me, I don't know. I killed one of them earlier, so they might want revenge for that." He looks down at his shoes, then says, "One of them is inside my sister. Lily and Wendy and I managed to capture her earlier, but she attacked us and vomited this stuff all over me that stunned me. And then Lily decided to let her go, so she went straight back to her alien friends and told them that we know and are a threat. That's why they went to kidnap me." Something occurs to him. "Oh shit, they must also be coming for Lily, then!"

He feeds her rounds to fill the clip, and stuffs the rest of the box in his, well, his hands. Carrying them awkwardly, he says, "You and I don't need a bed, the Banks taught us that. A memory worth repeating." He laughs, his eyes sparkling with mirth, but he knows they better go chase after Zach and the po-po.

"We better go. It's a sacrifice to be sure, and Zach will owe us big time for giving up these moments to save his ass."

Aaron is quiet as Zach explains further.

"Holy shit," he finally says, shaking his head, not sure to make of what he's hearing. "Alien parasites? And this is the asylum where you said you guys found Priya. And Kilvert!"

Searching in vain for a door handle, or a way out, the boy drives his shoulder, hard, into a door a few times.

"We've got -- uff -- to get -- unh -- out of here!"
