Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

In Bentley's Police Cruiser (Lily)

Officer Yvonne Bentley

Arriving at the school, Lily notices that Officer Bentley turns off her headlights before turning into the parking lot, and that she pulls over well before she gets to the semi-circle that provides access to the main doors. Putting the car in park, she turns around and asks Lily for her phone, indicating the slot for the girl to slide it through.

"Just for a minute. I'll give it right back," Bentley says. "I want to see that video."

Beside Lily, her mom motions with her head and her eyes: go on. Give the officer your phone.

Emily's House

"What's going on that you need a gun?!" Steve asks, still in his underwear, trailing behind Emily and Fred as they head outside. "And I can't clean up everything in here, that's a lot of work! And you took at the money we were supposed to split! Emily! I'm telling mom!"

Outside, as the couple gets into the Tesla and drives off, heading for the school, the boy shouts from the back deck.

"I mean it! I was gonna order more food and now I can't! And where's the van, Emily? What happened to the van?!"

The Asylum?

"These cells are made to hold crazy people," Zach reminds Aaron. "I don't think we can just ram our shoulder against the door and get out. Besides, there's some weird thing patrolling the hallway, like a guard robot, but... organic or something." He tries if he can maybe push open the little view window in the door and get a peek of the hallway. "We have to be smart about this. Worst case, we barricade the door and wait for our friends."

Lily meets her mom’s look, and then puts the phone up to the lip of the slot. They were already in the car, so there wasn’t much they could do if Bentley was crooked.

In a moment of trust, she slides the phone through into the woman’s hand and tries not to let loose her held breath too loudly!

Emily's House

"Did I help you make that mess? Did you see me eating pizza, tatletale?" she snipes at her brother as she heads out the door.

"Jesus. Let's get out of here, Freddie." Once in the Tesla, she can hear him shouting something else but doesn't care. As an afterthought she rolls down the window and shouts back, "Put on some clothes, idiot!"

Freddie is happy to escape from Chez Ripe, and even happier they didn't need to axe any mob goons.

Driving away he says, "Brothers, am I right?"

Taking Lily’s phone, Bentley holds it so the girl can open it with her face, then the officer furrows her brow and watches Zach’s video intently — twice.

Pulling out a business card, the policewoman hands the phone — and her contact information — back to Lily. "Send that to me, alright?" she says as she turns off the car, opens her door and gets out.

"You three stay here a minute, I’ll be right back. I need to find out what’s going on."

Lily watches as the woman closes her car door, checks various items on her rig and says something into her shoulder-mounted radio as she starts walking for the front of the school.

"What the heck is going on, Lily?" the girl’s father asks, seeming a little lost in all this.

With just the three of them in the car, Lily both relaxes and tenses up. Bentley was gone, and so she could catch her breath. But then her parents started asking questions. She knew they wouldn’t believe her, but she felt it wouldn’t be long until they would see it for themselves…

"Do you want the long story, or the longer story?" she asks, sheepishly!

Lily's mom takes her by the hand, clearly wanting the straight story as the girl's father tries to see what's going on at the school. Figures that are hard to make out in the dark are meeting with the woman outside the main doors.

"I'm..." he begins, putting his window down so he can see better, "going to call you two an Uber. Go back home. I'll deal with whatever this is."

"I don’t think it’s a good idea to disobey the police, right? Won’t they arrest us for disobeying an officer? And anyway… what if she needs help?" Lily asks, squinting passed her dad to try see what he sees.

In Bentley's Police Cruiser (Lily)

"Who, Officer Bentley?" Lily's dad asks. "I'm not worried about her. She can handle herself. But I don't like any of this. Middle of the night. We shouldn't be here. I should have said no at the door."

Looking out his window, the man adds, "What are all these people doing here? At the school, way after midnight?"

Indeed, there's a commotion of some kind near the entrance, and a lot of figures are visible -- but Lily can't get a good look at any of them from the back of the car, considering they are also a couple of hundred feet away.

Opening his door, Mr. Palmer gets out, clearly with the intention of approaching to try and figure out what's going on. As he goes he keys the back door locks open from the center console <SHUNK!>, then glances at his phone. "Uber will be here in twelve minutes, it says. Just sit tight until then!"

Lily's phone buzzes at that moment too. It's Wendy, asking what the heck is going on, where Lily is, and if she's okay.

"David!" Lily's mom says (yeah, naming him!). "Be careful!"

"It’s like she said. What was it? A developing incident. Do you think everyone is okay? She said it had something to do with the others, so I want to stay here and find out."

She looks to her mom for backup.

"Mom! Tell him that we are going to stay. Officer Bentley said that only I could help!"

Those hadn’t been the exact words, but they were close enough.

At the School

And so it is when Fred turns the Tesla Model 3 into the driveway that leads past the parking lot and right to the front doors... he and Emily see a lot of commotion considering the late hour. The pair has no idea that Zach and Aaron are talking and searching their cell for some means of escape, or that Lily is in the back of the police cruiser they see parked in the parking lot, some distance from the main entrance -- where the Sheriff's SUV is parked. They have no idea that Lily and her mom are debating what to do, or that Mr. Palmer is walking towards the small crowd of people gathered outside the school.

What they do see is that at least two cops look to be present in that crowd, and -- there, near the main entrance, pulled into a handicapped spot, is Belinda's Range Rover...

"Fuck me, is that your step-mother's SUV?" Emily eyes flit around the parking lot, the school entrance, and the cops.

"What the hell is going on here? It's too late for kids being here. I don't like it. And cops too. What are they doing here? Do you see Lilly or Zach, Freddie?"

Emily is clutching Freddie's arm, probably too tightly, peppering him with observations and rapid-fire questions.

"I don't see anyone. Keep your gun hidden, and let's join the crowd. If it's slugfest, we start shooting, and run for the boiler and the asylum. That's the only place we know people are being held."

While he is talking, he's texting Lily and Wendy and Zach and Clutch, using teenage texting magic.

Seeing the text come in, Lily’s eyes flit about for Emily and Fred. Rather than try and get a message back in time, she calls instead:

"Hey!" she whispers into the phone! "Wait, why am I whispering? We’re over here! Bentley’s cruiser! Look around!"

Lily pushes open the door, keeping the phone between her shoulder and ear. She stoops, trying to keep herself small, and waves, hoping the motion would catch the attention of searching Emily and Fred.

"Over here! Can you see me?"

Rolling for Fred's crappy cell service to reach Clutch (+2 since this area has good coverage)... and whether clutch is awake at this hour (+2 because he's a misbehaving teen who probably sleeps with his phone.)

Clutch writes back almost immediately in a much more sensible font.
