Boseman High School Shenanigans: Episode 1

Coiling up in a way none of the teens have yet seen, the third renegade space slug suddenly springs at Lily, flying through the air, straight for the girl's face -- for her mouth!

But before the nearly foot-long alien can reach the girl, Zach steps in an swats it out of the air! The creature squeaks and squeals when it hits the floor, but that sound abruptly ceases when Tidwell angrily brings his foot down on top of the invertebrate, completely pulping the thing, spraying its glowing inwards out in a putrid fan of goo and grisly bits that must be organs.

The door slams but holds not once, but twice.

Sheriff Akins
"Let us in, goddammit! Let us in!" the Sheriff shouts from outside, while the wall of imprisoned slugs continues to erupt in a fury as the slimy parasites slam themselves against their plastic cell doors, trilling and shrieking. The crates begin rocking back and forth as the tiny monsters start moving in time, and the three teens suddenly know they are going to need help, here far underground, to survive!
OOC:
So. EIGHT FREAKING RAISES after killing that third slug, Zach.

If you're okay with it, let's turn all of that into Bennies -- two each -- for our final cinematic scene. A giant combat that will involve rousing and untying people who will help you, slugfighting, and a battle royale with the remaining slugged adults. You'll be aided by whoever you can get on their feet, teens who came looking to help Zach because of his video, Clutch and the rest of Fred's pals, Wendy, Priya, and anyone else we should bring in for a cameo.

Stay tuned for instructions on what to roll!

THE FINAL BATTLE!
OOC:
We're using a combination of the Quick Resolution and Mass Battle rules to finish out the game, folks. Here we go!
FIRST! Rouse Your Allies
Someone make a Healing Check, at -1 for the sorry condition of your patients, who include Emily, Rose, Aaron, Marco, Kelly Unger, and the kid she's tied to. Two of you can Support if you want -- also a Healing check, which provides +1 to the task leader / roller if you succeed. (+2 from a Raise, -2 from a Crit Failure.)

On a Critical Failure, none of the four can be roused. On a regular Failure, choose one to rouse. Success means you can rouse two, and each Raise means you can rouse one more.

Note: to get Windy back in the game, she can also spend a Benny to rouse. (See my previous post, each of you have +2 Bennies now.)

THEN! Saturday Night Slug Fight
As you finish rousing folks, the wall of slugs comes tumbling down and the fight is on! One of you lead the others in a Fighting-based Quick Encounter that will determine the fate of the space slugs! You would get a gang-up bonus here, you'd think, but you'll be badly outnumbered by the slugs. (They are rolling as well, this will be opposed -- and *they* will enjoy the gang-up bonus.) I'll allow support roles from PCs here, same effect as above.

On a Critical Failure, many slugs escape and someone gets slugged without anyone knowing about it! On a regular Failure, you win the battle but several slugs escape. Success means you win but a single slug goes missing, and a Raise means a complete success. All slugs die!

FINALLY! Battle Royale
The door comes crashing in after the slug fight, spilling into the room the huge brawl that's going on between the slugged adults and all the teens and townsfolk fighting them with bats, tools, shovels and hockey gloves. There's carnage!

It's another Fighting roll, made by one PC with others potentially supporting. You enjoy +3 from Ganging Up and badly outnumbering the slugs, and from your advanced weapons.

On a Critical Failure, we'll randomly determine 2d6 characters who don't survive the fight -- PCs and NPCs are in the crosshairs. The good guys win in the end, but it's a bloody mess, basically. On a regular Failure, you win but 1d6 friendly NPCs don't make it. On a Success, you win but 1d6 slugged adults won't be getting up... on a Raise, you win, everyone lives, and there's a big goddamned party!

Freddie helps Zach apply first aid, his enthusiasm for the effort confused by the banging on the door but his caring nature (hey, he has one) at the forefront. He'll offer consoling words and helpful advice from his months of physical rehab.

Emily spends the benny to rouse.
"Mother Fuck!" the girl exclaims as she gets up, trying to clear the proverbial cobwebs from her brain and body, while ignoring the splattered goo on her clothing.

Lily takes the quiet moment to check on the bound girls, now that the room wasn’t wriggling with worms.
"Quick! Get over here!" Lily shouts as the others are tending to themselves! She races back to start killing the worms, and they weren’t too happy about it!
OOC:
Benny one…

OOC:
Alright, Fred is successfully supporting Zach as he makes the Healing check. Lily is welcome to try too, and even Emily if she wants to spend the Benny. Just keep in mind there's a chance Zach aces the crap out of the healing roll, which would mean Emily could be rouses without spending the Benny. But if Emily is up and Supporting -- obviously the Benny will be spent.

We need Zach to make the Healing check. (Currently at +2 from Fred's and Lily's help.)

Holding fire on Lily's roll to fight slugs until we resolve and narrate "Rouse Your Allies." (And I will note that, really, we should be making support rolls first if they are coming. The PC making the actual skill check should roll at the end. And in this case, it'll be a contested roll with the slugs comin' at ya.)

With the door shaking as Akins tries to break it down, and the whole wall of captive slugs shrieking and wailing as they try to bust out of their plastic cells, the teens set about rousing everyone they can for what is sure to be a desperate final battle. Anyone on the floor is vulnerable to slug infiltration if the things get free!

Emily, Macro and Rose end up back on their feet, and while the girls have both have had enough experience with the slugs by now to keep their wits about them in the basement room full of alien horrors, it quickly becomes clear that Marco is not quite so prepared.

Marco Corbitt
"What the fuck is this?!" the boy with the weedy mustache and beard shouts, recoiling from the wall of writhing, boiling alien flesh. "What the fuck is going on here?! What are those things?!"

As if in answer, the slugs finally get the timing and momentum right and cause their rocking prison wall to tumble forward -- where it smashes onto the floor, cracking open and spilling and freeing dozens of the things into the room! The parasites peep and hoot shrilly as they come for the group, inching along but also springing through the air, determined that this will not be their last stand, that this will not be the end of their species!

Rose Tidwell
Rose has armed herself with a pipe and gnashes her teeth. She's fully aware of what happened to her, and she's seeing red as she answers Marco. "Get with the program, Macro! Smash these little fuckers!"

Rolls

Marco Spirit Check - (1d6, RA)

(2) = 2

Rose Support Roll for the Battle - (1d6, RA)

(5) = 5

OOC:
Moving on to Saturday Night Slug Fight.

This will be an Opposed Fighting roll, all of you vs. the slugs. Choose one PC to lead the charge, but the other three can make Support rolls. Those might be impassioned speeches, smooches, booby flashes, smart use of weapons in the battle, telepathy, you name it. Each success will mean +1 to the Fighting roll of your fight leader, and each approach will factor in to how things go if you win or lose.

The Slugs will enjoy a Gang-Up Bonus, but before we get to the Opposed Fighting roll -- please make the three Support rolls, describing what you're doing to help!

Edit: Marco is too wigged out to be much help, but Rose supports at +1!

Squeaking and stretching, slithering and sliding, springing and splaping, the space slugs sally forth and strike!

Rolls

"Rosie!" Zach wraps his little sister in an almost painfully tight hug as soon as she's managed to struggle to her feet. He wants to say more, tell her that as annoying as she is, he missed her and he's glad to have her back. She is a bit less troublesome than Not-Rose after all.

But there's no time. Suddenly, there's a whole mass of slugs breaking out, escaping, trying to become a danger. Too many to just squish them all. He lets go of her and looks around. Just last year, before he switched schools, they had a class on snails and slugs and those kinds of gross slimies. These ones are aliens, but maybe the same things apply to them. He tries to recall what he knows about their anatomy and possible weaknesses to exploit. Is there salt around? That'd be trouble for them. But there must have been more, right?
If only Zach hadn't shared that particular class with Wade Farran and his distractingly tight shirts...

Rolls

Fred slashes with the chisel and tries to kill as many as he can, but he sees the charge focusing around Lily. The first to fire the ray gun that gave them a chance to fight back. The intrepid investigator so adept at figuring out the rules of any scenario.

Rolls

Fred Solomon: Fighting (to support Lily) - (1d4, 1d6, RA)

1d4 : (2) = 2

1d6 : (3) = 3

Emily yanks out her pepper spray, finds the most concentrated group of alien slugs, and sprays, waving her arm from side to side in an effort to kill as many of the bastards as she can.

The hiss of the spray is accompanied by her hysterical shrieks, "Die, you slimy motherfuckers!"
OOC:

Lily tries to rouse the others from their grogginess, as the slugs come down! Waking them was one thing, but asking them to fight was quite another!

Marco, she has to try and get through to the man, but he’s half dazed; a chicken at the end. She focuses then on rallying the others!

Rolls

Lily Palmer: Persuasion* - (1d10+1, 1d6+1, RA)

1d6+1 : (1) + 1 = 2

OOC:
Wow! What a roll — describe stomping tons of slugs flat, everyone! Then I’ll have the door bust open and things will get real…
Feb 1, 2024 8:52 pm
Freddie slashes giant slugs in half, the chisel sweeping in long sweeps, as he attacks the left flank and herds those ones to the center. Lily's words and manner buoy him to dig deep, despite the aches coming from his tortured, still-healing body.
Feb 1, 2024 9:01 pm
Trying to follow up his pretty impressive success in smashing those slugs before, Zach swings the cattleprod at them, not to electrocute them, but just to use it as a dull weapon. That, however, turns out to be a bad idea when the prod hits the ground hard, snaps and a piece of it hits him in the face, cutting into his skin. He lets out a yell of pain and stumbles backwards, not ending up being a great help in this slugfight.

Lily tries to move about the room, giving people a chance to catch their breath or check their wounds as the battle drags on. She thinks to try and puppet Marco’s body, to force him to fight, but the worms drive it from her mind as they press the attack. All she can do is kick, and wallop and wrestle!
Feb 2, 2024 3:37 pm
As the disgusting bugs curl and contort from the girl's pepper spray, Emily takes a great deal of satisfaction from what looks to her like their great discomfort. As they slither to the floor, she stomps on them, rather like a comical dance, the satisfying crunch and squishing sound making her sneer maliciously. With a maniacal verve, she hunts any of the little bastards that still move.
