The Pathways Chart

Augusta's relationship with a Black Lips Books hookup turned serious, torrid, and possibly illegal in 13 states. However, an alarming medical situation caused her to reject him, but just to protect him, Brian Floyd.

One the night she turned into a creature, hideous and malformed, yet still oddly cute, and full of seductive self-confidence. She quickly learned some control over that transformation, being able to exercise it on demand.

After the initial shock, buoyed by just how good it felt to be in the new alternate form, her reading at Black Lips Books turned more paranormal, and she began to read extensively from the fantasy and occult sections, looking for kindred spirits. Visions of vigilantism dance on her head, and she toys with sexy street names.

Focus: Paranormal
▼ New Ability: Shape Change (limited to a goblin-like woman shape)
▼ Step Up Distinction: Attractive
▼ Step Up Relationship: Eva to d6

Only 13 states, Q?
She's totally into status. How she looks, how she fits, climbing the ladder to social prominence. Belinda is very wealthy and is why she clings or clinged to her.

Focus: Status
▼Step Up Distinction: Likeable d6
▼ Step Up Resource: Belinda (extra) d6
▼ Step Up Relationship: Eva d6

Time to get started on the second-to-last step of the character creation! Connect any one thing that's already on the map to any of the PCs (not necessarily your own) and define that connection.

Connect Plaxo Pharmaceuticals to Augusta Ang with the descriptor (secretly the origin of family wealth & influence)

Mike Crandall thinks Eva is a hottie, and tries to find ways to run into her.

Road

Relationship - TANC to Melissa because her bestie is imprisoned there unjustly (as far as Melissa knows).

Road: Relatiionship Step

Connect: Unless it's too cheesy, connecting Eva to Dark Lips Books. She works there as a cashier and terrible barista.

Step 4: Road (Part 2: Options)
Neat, and with that, we can move onto the mechanical side of the Road step! Pick your choice of Road and do your thing
Jan 19, 2023 4:42 pm
OOC:
struggled with which one to take, but I like the Ethical Road most.
Ethics is a tough call. There is justice and there is the law. Is it ethical to allow criminals to prey on the helpless because they beat the legal system? Is it ethical to take the law into your own hands? Is it ethical to stand by and watch a crime unfold?

Augusta's night time sojourns have taken a darker turn. Her goblin side has a mean streak she struggles to control. During the day, she reads at Black Lips treatises and philosophies on the struggle between good and evil.

ETHICAL GETS:
▼Step up Justice
▼Add a Distinction: Savage
▼Step up a Relationship: Draven
▼Step up an Asset: Ability: Shape Change

Lofty fits my girl to a T. She's coming together nicely now.

Lofty:
▼Step up Truth: d6
▼Increase or new distinction: Big Brother Big Sister
▼Increase resource: The TANC
▼Increase Asset, Relationship or Resource: Power-d6

Finding it hard to get where I intended. The Risky road isn't bad, but I was hoping to be able to use this step to tangle Dave and Eva together, with her hurting him accidentally... and him only being okay because of his regeneration...

Updates made above.

Nothing stopping that from happening. Character Pathways aren't synchronous, I believe. The steps don't have to be in tune with each other in a linear timeline so Eva's Road phase might be well after Dave's Life Changing Event phase and they do have that fateful encounter.

I'd kind of imagined Dave being the one to rescue her from the streets after her escape from Wyvern Lake and acclimate her to modern life (as best he can... he's not exactly s model citizen himself).

In my mind, the scene played out like this:

Walking home from a late night meeting at St. Javelina's, Dave hears a scuffle in an alleyway as he passes by. Begrudgingly, he stops to investigate and discovers a local guy he knows being worked over by some freak covered in wires, clear vinyl and spandex so, knowing the guy, he steps in to keep her from killing the kid accidentally. Dave makes a few snarky comments, the kid bolts running for his life, Eva works Dave over until she runs out of steam/anger/whatever and then he asks her if she's done and whether she wants to get something to eat. Adopting her like a feral stray, he lets her stay at his place until she's adjusted enough to moderately function in society and violá now we've reached Eva's cybernetic assassin barista phase.

*I had the whole scene worked out as a writing exercise to get Dave's mannerisms and voice down in my head. I might post it up if I have time as a completely non-canon but of fun.

Step 5: Life-Changing Event (Part 1: Relationship Map)
https://i.imgur.com/c74U639.png
Quote:
▼ Draw an arrow from your square to a new or existing
circle (NEW Extra) or diamond (NEW Location).
▼ Draw an arrow back to a Lead square.
▼ Optional: Switch out any Relationship or Resource currently on your sheet for a new Relationship or Resource at the same die rating and draw an arrow to a new or existing circle or diamond as appropriate.
▼ Optional: Remove any d4 Relationship or 2d4 Resource and step up another Relationship or Resource.
And with that, we're at the final step of our character creation. Let's go through with this and afterwards, we can see if you're unhappy with anything still and tweak some things manually where desired. I'm happy to give you some free points to spend wherever you like.

First, you connect your lead to any new or existing location or extra, then you get to connect any one thing that's already on the map to any of the PCs (not necessarily your own) and define that connection.
Plus two optional things if you want to sever ties with something you're connected to.

Since we're at the last step now, maybe also take a look at what things are still kind of hanging unconnected and see if you can find something for those. Belinda, Danvers and Dartella I think could all still need another connection if one of you has an idea. The department store as well, possibly. Or, if you're planning to put something new on the board, maybe think about whether you can link that to someone else as well.

Okay so, for this round I'd like to introduce Dr. Rebecca Hu as an extra and link her to Dave with the descriptor: family friend.

Second, Brian Floyd linked to Melissa as wants in her pants.

I'll skip the optional part and draw a new connection between Mel and Dark Lips Books where she meets Mike now and then for coffee. She sort of likes books but thinks she should like them more since Belinda likes to read and she considers intellectual pursuits to be high fallutin.

So Brian and melissa are now connected. Am I missing anything else?

Maybe Belinda knows Dr. Hu since docs and upper-crust society kind of thing?

I know they're not synchronous (actually, I think maybe they're supposed to be, but we haven't been treating them as such), but what I really meant was just that I'm anticipating running out of phases before I can "tell the whole backstory."

As mentioned in the Discord, love this!

There are more phases after life-changing event. If you (plural you) want to keep going (whether all the way to the end or just one or two more phases) that's perfectly fine with me.

First: Connecting Eva to the department store, where she window shops with envy, tries things on, and contemplates jut taking them.

Second: Connecting Okulu to Draven -- she knows he has powers, or if that's public knowledge she likes him likes him and hopes he'll notice her and ask her out.
