The Pathways Chart

Let's have a separate thread for this, so that we can use the other one for more freeform thoughts.

This is where the meat of character creation happens. I will be drawing the map, so you just give me the info for it, as well as start building your character sheets! (Also, remember we have the discord in case some things here get confusing)

Since our choices for the relationship map depend on the ones made before, no skipping ahead. We're taking this step by step. Starting (in the next post), with step 1: Origin!

• Plaxo Pharmaceuticals: Shady pharmaceutical company that seems to have their fingers in everything happening in Graybridge
• Schreiber Center for Performing Arts: High-class establishment displaying performing arts for the city's elite
• The TANC (Terrorist and Anarchist Neutralization and Correction facility): one of the more infamous facilities in the world, it is designed to incarcerate those incapable of being handled by more mundane imprisonment technologies
• Wyvern Lake/The Labyrinth: secret and heavily fortified base of some kind some fifty miles west of town. The place is military-like, but perhaps not actually a Department of Defense facility -- seems like it might be more of a private military company kind of thing.

Step 1: Origin
Okay, for Origin, aside from you all adding your own characters to the map (which for you here just means, naming and briefly describing them), you all also add one extra (an NPC).
Give them a name, a brief description and describe how your character relates to them (not the other way around). Could be something like [little sister] or [I want him dead]. You know, basic stuff 😋

Windy/Qralloq: One of you should probably pick your shared evil lover for this. The other will get a chance to connect to them at a later stage.
So, that first part applies to all of you. For the second part of this step, each of you picks one of the options under origin and then follows the directions underneath that option (You'll find the detailed write-ups of the options on pages 20-21). Answer the prompts, set your Values according to what the option you picked says, choose everything else that's listed there.

And if you have questions, ask me! (Discord will be easiest, I think).

Okay, let's get started on this 😅

(I bet this is so much easier in person)

▼ What was the defining moment of your athletic career?
He could've been a star player but his parents were terrified of anyone finding out about his powers so he learned to be more of a support team member than the star he could've been.
▼ Were you a team player, or more of a solo athlete, and why?

Recruited out of college and leveraged to join a metahuman strike team, Dave served unofficially and off the books for what he presumed were covert U.S. interests for a number of years. He and Danvers Ellison were assigned together on the four person team and they all struck up a lifelong friendship, saw the world and battled incredible and odd threats.

Local militias had sieged a medical facility deep in the South American jungle and while the rest of the team held off the militias, it was Terrapin's job to extract the Intel source. Instead the telekinetic went rogue, killing the Intel source and burning the facility to the ground... without ever saying why. A military tribunal cleared the rest of the team and remanded Terrapin to the TANC.

Lead: Eva

Extra: Dartella Okulu (2d4), waitress in a local diner. Once took Eva in from the cold, so Eva likes her and thinks she's nice. (That was the night Eva escaped from Wyvern Lake.)

Origin: Alien/Metahuman

▼ Metahuman Heritage: Altered, manufactured or something like that -- Eva doesn't know for certain.

▼ Did she grow up knowing she had powers? Oh yes.

Metahuman Gets:

▼ All values to d4

Truth raised twice to d8 (seeks to understand her origin, her purpose)

▼ Heritage: Secret d4 (see above, likely Manufactured or the like)

▼ Ability: Super-Strength d4

▼ Distinction: Fearsome Martial Artist d4
[ +- ] Notes

Youth: Outsider

Eva was raised in a facility and spent most of her time in surgery, rehabilitation, or training. She's underwent near constant "improvements" and built social skills during this time. (But remembers little to none of this.)

▼ Where did you find comfort? On operations, and at times in trying to devise means of escape.

▼ Just what was it that pushed you beyond loner to full outsider? He not being permitted to interact with regular kids and the outside world.

▼ What kinds of conflicts have developed between you and others in your surroundings? Eva isn't very good at showing empathy towards others -- she has an underdeveloped EQ, and it frequently shows.

Outsider Gets:

▼ Step up distinction: Fearsome Martial Arts to d6

▼ Step Up a Location: Wyvern Lake to 2d6

▼ Step Up Relationship Asset or Resource: Super-Strength (Ability) to d6.
Focus: Paranormal

Since her memories are fuzzy and she was probably on heavy psychoactive drugs the whole time she was with the GRIC (is that right? I now cannot find my acronym) program at Wyvern Lake, Eva doesn't remember much... but she was intended, probably along with some others, to be a force used to defend against a paranormal threat, or perhaps used to explore a paranormal environment. Is it a buried alien ship or base and her physiology has been altered to survive it? Is it a different dimension that's growing in size, slowing taking over the Earth, and she was supposed to strike into it and somehow shut it down? Maybe!

▼ How long have you held this fascination? Not really a fascination, but might become one as she learns more.

▼ Is it something you’ve had since childhood, or did an unexplained event open this world up to you? Exposed to it in the program.

▼ How do you go about your research? Do you fly solo or work with a team? Eva was on a big team doing this (GRIC?), but now she flies solo.

▼ Do you sleep in a tinfoil hat and encourage others to do the same? Nope. What what she does sleep in? That's a topic for another phase.

Paranormal Gets:

▼ Step up or add an Ability or Distinction: New Ability - Invulnerability d4

▼ Step up or add a Heritage or Distinction: Stepping Up a Distinction - Martial Arts to d8

▼ Step up a Relationship: Dave Draven to d6
Road: Risky

Eva is absolutely willing to put it all on the line to get what she wants -- exposing the Facility at Wyvern Lake.

▼ Have your actions ever gotten you, or someone close to you, seriously hurt or in trouble with the law? Yup. Draven. Good thing he can heal! (I'm thinking it was Eva that hurt him, during their first encounter.)

▼ Have you gambled it all, knowing that failure would mean a future living in a van down by the river? Yes -- sticking around to expose the place is risky and will end badly for Eva if she's caught.

▼ Have your actions caused friends or family to completely disassociate with you? Yes. Some coworkers and patrons at the book/coffee shop have tried to get to know Eva, but she's too focused to even understand they're trying to become friends.

Risky Gets:

▼ Step up Glory or Power: Step up Power.

▼ Add or step up a Distinction: Adding Daring.

▼ Step up a Resource: Stepping Up Mike Crandall -- doesn't know how to handle his attentions.

▼ Step up a Relationship, Asset, or Resource: Stepping Up an Asset - Super-Strength
Life-Changing Event: Advancement

One of Eva’s clandestine or commando operations went awry and she was jolted out of whatever control the nasty dudes at Wyvern Lake had over her. This might have been a violent impact or an electric shock that knocked out a control device in her skull, or it might have been someone inside the program dosing her incorrectly with her control meds, intending to set her free. Her life-changing event is her freedom and realization that her whole life, her existence, has been secretly controlled by someone else.

▼ Was this something you saw coming and had been working towards for years? No! I mean… in a way. But it was like a switch being flipped. She might have some memories of being in the program, though, ones where her attempts to find out more or gain some amount of freedom were shut down.

▼ Did you wake up one morning and find yourself in the right place at the right time? If the right place was some alley in town, in her (finally) right mind, then yes!

▼ Who or what recognized your potential and bestowed this endorsement upon you? Well, now that’s a great question! Someone inside the program at Wyvern Lake, certainly. An admirer? A sibling? Her mother, whose cells she’s cloned from? The alien hive mind or machine intelligence that was used to create her?

Advancement Gets:

▼ Step up Glory or Power twice: Step up Glory and Power once each, though I don’t want either of these increased

▼ Step up a Value of your choice: Justice

▼ Step up or add a Distinction: Stepping up Daring to d6

▼ Step up a Location: Wyvern Lake

▼ Step up two Relationships or one twice: Draven stepped up twice to d10 (does she even *have* other relationships?)

▼ Step up a Relationship, Asset, or Resource: Martial Arts stepped up to d10
To be completed...

Sheet:
- Feel free to shift your values around but keep the totals the same

Lowering Power by 2 and Glory by 1; raising Duty, Justice and Truth by 1 (to d6, d8, d10)

- Take three points to spend between Abilities and Distinctions (new or step up)

One point to Daring, two to Attractive.

- Take two points to step up extras and locations (no new ones)

Stepping up Gorgon twice to 2d8.

- Take two points to step up Relationships (no new ones)

Stepping Melissa and Augusta up once each to d6.

Step 2: Youth
Cool, cool, let's get started on the next bit.

For Youth, each of you first creates a Location. We should all do that first before moving ahead, because the next step relies on what was built before. Describe how your character relates to that location.
One of you should probably create the prison here. Witchdoctor, this might be a good opportunity to establish the counselling center or whatever it's called.

Once everyone has placed their location on the map, each of you creates one connection from either the extra or the location you created to a different extra or location on the map. Describe that connection.
Okay, again, the first part is for everyone, after that, it's down to which option you pick. Follow the steps and update your sheet and this thread (Options on pages 22-23)
Jan 14, 2023 6:32 pm
The prison system, inherently unjust and inhumane
Is the ultimate expression of injustice
And inhumanity in the society at large.
Those of us on the outside do not like
To think of wardens and guards as our surrogates, yet they are.
And they are intimately locked in a deadly embrace
With their human captives behind prison walls.
By extension, so are we.
The terrible double meaning is thus imparted
To the original question of human ethics
"Am I my brother's keeper?"

Augusta Ang chooses as a local location, the prison, the Terrorist and Anarchist Neutralization and Correction facility, known more commonly as The TANC. One of the more infamous facilities in the world, it is designed to incarcerate those incapable of being handled by more mundane imprisonment technologies.

Augusta's relationship to the prison is that her step-brother used to be in there, Raoul Parker. He's her mother's son, mixed white and latino, given up for adoption in high school. He is serving hard time for when he was involved in murderous activities with the outlaw motorcycle club, the Grim Dogs. She has reconnected with him recently, although her mother doesn't know he is even alive, and her father doesn't know Raoul exists. He was released recently, having served his time, and fled for parts unknown.

Augusta has been working hard to try and improve conditions for maximum security prisoners, and has formed somewhat antagonistic relationships with several of the staff in the warden's office.

Subsequent additions:

- Brian Floyd is connected to Wyvern Lake, in that he is an agent for them (whether that's officially through Plaxo Pharmaceuticals or independently remains to be seen)

Youth Pathway Outsider

Augusta spent much of her youth secretly meeting with her step-brother at The TANC, an ultra-prison near The City. While she didn't really connect with her step-brother Raoul very strongly, she became obsessed with the conditions at the facility. Making little headway with administration, who rightfully dismissed the pleas of the young teen, she leaned hard into big city society life, making the connections she would need to impose real change. Her obsession, however, typecast her as being an eccentric musician, and drove her into a place where the phrase 'always alone even in a crowd' became apt. This culminated with a sense that even though she knew and was connected with more and more people, and she was alienated from her peers and family by her focus. When alone, she studied law and music, knowing she would need both to make real change. Among her friends, her society-friend bestie Peyton Smythe became the one person she could rely on.

▼ Step up Distinction: Connected to d6
▼ Step up Location: The TANC to d6
▼ Step Up Relationship: Dave Draven to d6

Location: Episcopal Cathedral of St. Javelina

A century old stone cathedral standing defiantly in the midst of urban decay. The old church changed hands multiple times over the years, having originally been built as an Orthodox church for the mostly Eastern European immigrants that flooded the city prior to the second World War. Its baroque dark stone bulk looms over the run down brownstones and tenament buildings huddled together that define the look of the neighborhood.
The fortress-like church is the tallest building in the area; it's buttresses and belltowers easily seen blocks away. It functions as a true community center hosting functions, both related and unrelated to the Episcopalian denomination, in the labyrinthine bunker-like basement of the church. Among them are a number of recovery and support groups.

Connection: Dave Draven hosts weekly support group meetings at St. Javelina's.
Jan 15, 2023 6:15 am
Location: There's a secret and heavily fortified base of some kind in the (hills/desert/mountains) some fifty miles west of town. Eva escaped from there, and still works to evade people that she thinks want to bring her back there. She is both afraid of the place and determined to eventually return to it and expose or destroy it. Her memories of being there are dim and unclear -- the only clear ones involve her escape. The place is military-like, but perhaps not actually a Department of Defense facility -- seems like it might be more of a private military company kind of thing.

Step 3: Focus (Part 1: Relationship Map)
https://i.imgur.com/5pfpcqu.png
Quote:
▼ Draw an arrow from any circle or diamond to another circle, diamond, or square.
▼ Draw an arrow from your square to a new or existing circle (NEW Extra or Relationship) or diamond (NEW Location)
Okay, let's do the relationship map part first again. First you connect any extra or location (not necessarily one you put on the map) to any other extra, location or lead and you define the relationship of that extra or location towards the other extra, location or lead
And then you either connect yourself to an extra or location that's already on the map or you create a new extra or location (this also gives you 2D4 towards whatever you connect to)
Jan 16, 2023 3:44 pm
Here's my go at the Focus step:

1) I'll link Wyvern Lake to the TANC with the connection: uses inmates for research.

2) I'll introduce Plaxo Pharmaceuticals as a location/extra (or whatever it'd be classified as) and link it to Dave Draven with the connection: under surveillance by.
Jan 16, 2023 4:52 pm
I'll link the Caine and Sloane Department Store as a corporate sponsor for the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Javelina.

I'll draw a new Location from Augusta, her favorite coffee shop/indie book store, Dark Lips Books.
Jan 16, 2023 7:12 pm
Dark Lips gave me inspiration for my next location. I think Dave should live above some kind of seedy restaurant... Hu's Golden Fist, the Cock of the Wok. Yep, that's gonna definitely be where he lives. 😂 Some kind of unholy Asian/Eastern European fusion buffet joint not far from St. Javelina's.
The owner is an old army buddy of Dave's and his daughter works as an attending at the city ER. Yep, I know where my connections are going next 😂
Jan 16, 2023 7:45 pm
I think I will connect Mike, Melissa's boss to the Dark Lips. He likes coffee and books so it's a natural favorite spot for the guy.
Then I'd like to create a new extra: Belinda the bestie who is connected to the prison since she is in it (2d4).
Jan 17, 2023 3:28 am
1. As ridonkulous as it seems, Plaxo is totally connected to the GRUC program at Wyvern Lake. (That's Genetically Recombined and Upgraded Commando, but don't tell Eva that.) Plaxo supplies experimental and illegal druuuuugs... including one we should somehow discover that Eva needs to not lose her shit! Actually...

2. Connecting Eva to Plaxo! She needs mood | stress | angrrrrrRRRRRR leveling drugs from them. (She might not know this yet, and the drugs might do more than level her out. They might keep her alive.)

BTW, connecting TANC and Wyvern Lake is genius, witchdoctor.

Step 3: Focus (Part 2: Options)
Neat, and with that, we can move onto the mechanical side of the Focus step! Pick your choice of Focus and do your thing
Jan 17, 2023 4:10 pm
Augusta's relationship with a Black Lips Books hookup turned serious, torrid, and possibly illegal in 13 states. However, an alarming medical situation caused her to reject him, but just to protect him, Brian Floyd.

One the night she turned into a creature, hideous and malformed, yet still oddly cute, and full of seductive self-confidence. She quickly learned some control over that transformation, being able to exercise it on demand.

After the initial shock, buoyed by just how good it felt to be in the new alternate form, her reading at Black Lips Books turned more paranormal, and she began to read extensively from the fantasy and occult sections, looking for kindred spirits. Visions of vigilantism dance on her head, and she toys with sexy street names.

Jan 19, 2023 4:42 pm
OOC:
struggled with which one to take, but I like the Ethical Road most.
Ethics is a tough call. There is justice and there is the law. Is it ethical to allow criminals to prey on the helpless because they beat the legal system? Is it ethical to take the law into your own hands? Is it ethical to stand by and watch a crime unfold?

Augusta's night time sojourns have taken a darker turn. Her goblin side has a mean streak she struggles to control. During the day, she reads at Black Lips treatises and philosophies on the struggle between good and evil.

Finding it hard to get where I intended. The Risky road isn't bad, but I was hoping to be able to use this step to tangle Dave and Eva together, with her hurting him accidentally... and him only being okay because of his regeneration...

Updates made above.

Harrigan says:
Finding it hard to get where I intended. The Risky road isn't bad, but I was hoping to be able to use this step to tangle Dave and Eva together, with her hurting him accidentally... and him only being okay because of his regeneration...

Nothing stopping that from happening. Character Pathways aren't synchronous, I believe. The steps don't have to be in tune with each other in a linear timeline so Eva's Road phase might be well after Dave's Life Changing Event phase and they do have that fateful encounter.

I'd kind of imagined Dave being the one to rescue her from the streets after her escape from Wyvern Lake and acclimate her to modern life (as best he can... he's not exactly s model citizen himself).

In my mind, the scene played out like this:

Walking home from a late night meeting at St. Javelina's, Dave hears a scuffle in an alleyway as he passes by. Begrudgingly, he stops to investigate and discovers a local guy he knows being worked over by some freak covered in wires, clear vinyl and spandex so, knowing the guy, he steps in to keep her from killing the kid accidentally. Dave makes a few snarky comments, the kid bolts running for his life, Eva works Dave over until she runs out of steam/anger/whatever and then he asks her if she's done and whether she wants to get something to eat. Adopting her like a feral stray, he lets her stay at his place until she's adjusted enough to moderately function in society and violá now we've reached Eva's cybernetic assassin barista phase.

*I had the whole scene worked out as a writing exercise to get Dave's mannerisms and voice down in my head. I might post it up if I have time as a completely non-canon but of fun.

Step 5: Life-Changing Event (Part 1: Relationship Map)
https://i.imgur.com/c74U639.png
Quote:
▼ Draw an arrow from your square to a new or existing
circle (NEW Extra) or diamond (NEW Location).
▼ Draw an arrow back to a Lead square.
▼ Optional: Switch out any Relationship or Resource currently on your sheet for a new Relationship or Resource at the same die rating and draw an arrow to a new or existing circle or diamond as appropriate.
▼ Optional: Remove any d4 Relationship or 2d4 Resource and step up another Relationship or Resource.
And with that, we're at the final step of our character creation. Let's go through with this and afterwards, we can see if you're unhappy with anything still and tweak some things manually where desired. I'm happy to give you some free points to spend wherever you like.

First, you connect your lead to any new or existing location or extra, then you get to connect any one thing that's already on the map to any of the PCs (not necessarily your own) and define that connection.
Plus two optional things if you want to sever ties with something you're connected to.

Since we're at the last step now, maybe also take a look at what things are still kind of hanging unconnected and see if you can find something for those. Belinda, Danvers and Dartella I think could all still need another connection if one of you has an idea. The department store as well, possibly. Or, if you're planning to put something new on the board, maybe think about whether you can link that to someone else as well.

Okay so, for this round I'd like to introduce Dr. Rebecca Hu as an extra and link her to Dave with the descriptor: family friend.

Second, Brian Floyd linked to Melissa as wants in her pants.

I'll skip the optional part and draw a new connection between Mel and Dark Lips Books where she meets Mike now and then for coffee. She sort of likes books but thinks she should like them more since Belinda likes to read and she considers intellectual pursuits to be high fallutin.
Jan 20, 2023 7:40 pm
So Brian and melissa are now connected. Am I missing anything else?

Maybe Belinda knows Dr. Hu since docs and upper-crust society kind of thing?

Harrigan says:
Finding it hard to get where I intended. The Risky road isn't bad, but I was hoping to be able to use this step to tangle Dave and Eva together, with her hurting him accidentally... and him only being okay because of his regeneration...

Nothing stopping that from happening. Character Pathways aren't synchronous, I believe. The steps don't have to be in tune with each other in a linear timeline so Eva's Road phase might be well after Dave's Life Changing Event phase and they do have that fateful encounter.

I know they're not synchronous (actually, I think maybe they're supposed to be, but we haven't been treating them as such), but what I really meant was just that I'm anticipating running out of phases before I can "tell the whole backstory."
Quote:

As mentioned in the Discord, love this!

There are more phases after life-changing event. If you (plural you) want to keep going (whether all the way to the end or just one or two more phases) that's perfectly fine with me.
Jan 21, 2023 8:09 am
First: Connecting Eva to the department store, where she window shops with envy, tries things on, and contemplates jut taking them.

Second: Connecting Okulu to Draven -- she knows he has powers, or if that's public knowledge she likes him likes him and hopes he'll notice her and ask her out.

Cool. I won't sweat it, then.

I want to expand the map a little, either to a reporter or authority figure.

▼AA connects to a new Extra, Peyton Smythe, a city councillor from a rich family. She's the youngest of the most recently elected councillors, and a society friend.

▼Peyton Smythe connects back to Melissa as her family owns the department store. PS has a crush on MK and is becoming more open about it despite the inappropriateness of it.

▼(optional switches not elected)

For the LCE, I'll pursue DESTINY (and not the Maltese pop singer, at least not in a stalkery way).

What is your destiny? To make protect those who are victimized when the system fails them.

She has embraced this destiny, as the culmination of her life's trajectory.

By embracing it, she now actively pursues ways to use her resources to enact change.

▼ Step Up Duty
▼ Step Up Power and truth
▼ New Distinction: Wealthy
▼ Step Up Resource, Extra: Peyton Smythe to d6
▼ Step Up Relationships, Eva, Draven
▼ Step Up Asset, Ability: Shapechanging
Jan 24, 2023 5:46 pm
For LCE Melissa:

MANIFESTATION GETS:
▼ Step up Power
▼ Step up any Value twice or step up two Values once - Duty, Glory
▼ Add an Ability - X-ray vision
▼ Step up an Ability or Distinction - love
▼ Step up a Distinction - likable
Step up two Locations or step up one Location twice - TANC, Big Bro Big Sis

Her new ability will be x-ray vision which she unknowingly attained from her lover, Brian Floyd. Might help her with the prison and who knows what else.

Life-Changing Event: Modeling above, but choosing Advancement.

Step 6: Bonus 🎉
Alright, now to wrap up character creation, I propose these bonus things for all of you. If this sounds okay, we can go through with them (starting with the map, then, when everyone is done with that, the rest)
Let me know if you're not happy with any of this:
Map:
- You can add 1 new extra or location. Immediately connect it to something else on the map
- connect your lead to anything already on the map
- connect anything on the map to any lead except yourself
- connect anything that's not a lead to anything else that's not a lead

Sheet:
- Feel free to shift your values around but keep the totals the same
-Take three points to spend between Abilities and Distinctions (new or step up)
- Take two points to step up extras and locations (no new ones)
- Take two points to step up Relationships (no new ones)

Also:
- Add images for any NPCs (and maybe locations) you put on the map to the garage
- If you have any specific thoughts on character traits or anything in mind for them, make sure to let me know. Anything that's not defined, I'll make up myself
- Give me one final summary of your character and where they are in life, regarding stuff like job, potential superheroic antics, relationships, etc. Just to make sure I get you right.
Jan 25, 2023 5:48 pm
Melissa is adding the beauty salon called Hair Today Gone Tomorrow. Belinda will be connected as well as Eva. In the back room, there are nefarious activities going on one of which is gambling. It makes sense with Belinda and Melissa always primping and preening. There might be some black market deals going down too. Might be how Melissa tries to come up with the money to keep up with the Joneses or the Belindas. Belinda ends up in the TANC due to one of these activities or a setup.
Jan 25, 2023 7:41 pm
Map:
- You can add 1 new extra or location. Immediately connect it to something else on the map

I'm adding Hu's Golden Fist, Cock of the Wok as a location, tied back to Dave as : lives above the restaurant

Connects to Rebecca Hu : owner is the father of

- connect your lead to anything already on the map

connect Dave with Brian Floyd with the link: investigating

- connect anything on the map to any lead except yourself

Belinda is linked to Eva with the tag: genetic sisters

- connect anything that's not a lead to anything else that's not a lead

I'll connect Hair Today with Caine & Sloane with the link : part of the same criminal protection racket

AKA: both businesses are under the unofficial control of the same underworld crime syndicate/family/etc ...

Map
▼ Adding a new location, the Schreiber Center for Performing Arts. It is connected to Rebecca Hu, who is an obsessive season ticket holder and supporter of said arts and/or the performing thereof.
▼ Connect Augusta to Rebecca Hu. Ang is suspicious of Hu, because Hu rubs her the wrong way... something snide about the Ang family money.
▼ The TANC is interested in Drake Draven. Something Terrapin said why dosed in the infirmary, and they believe that Danvers knows too much. What that is they don't know, they only know that they know he knows but that he doesn't know they know, yet.
▼ Belinda Hagman connected to the Schreiber Center for Performing Arts. She has access to a secret spot there where she can partake in illicit and unwise affairs while watching shows.

I like the twists with Augusta's additions, Qralloq. Very nice!

Bonus Round!

Map:

You can add 1 new extra or location. Immediately connect it to something else on the map

New Extra: Gorgon, a human woman with super-strength and skin as hard as stone — connected to the underground fighting ring in the basement of Hair Today.

- connect your lead to anything already on the map

Connecting to: Gorgon — Eva was challenged by her to a one on one fight.

- connect anything on the map to any lead except yourself

Connecting: Gorgon to Draven — mysterious past

- connect anything that's not a lead to anything else that's not a lead

Connecting: Gorgon to Terrapin — former fling that ended badly

Fully prepared to edit and change as need be.
Jan 26, 2023 10:52 pm
Then, @Emily/Windy, I think you still get to do these two:
- connect anything on the map to any lead except yourself
- connect anything that's not a lead to anything else that's not a lead Done

Eva connects to the department store - she started a job there maybe?

Without easily finding the deets of all the anythings, this isn't easy but I like this connection. Willing to change it of course.
Jan 27, 2023 6:15 am
For Eva's extra connection, which I forgot, bowl, yes indeed... let's connect her to Mike Crandall -- have been on two dates.

Windy, I think Eva is already connected to the department store? She window shops and looks longingly at things she cannot afford.
Sheet:
- Feel free to shift your values around but keep the totals the same
- Take three points to spend between Abilities and Distinctions (new or step up)
- Take two points to step up extras and locations (no new ones)
- Take two points to step up Relationships (no new ones)

Will make these changes above.

Harrigan is right, Eva is already connected to the department store so you'll have to find something else, I'm afraid

(Badly) updated the map
Jan 27, 2023 7:12 pm
Last but not least instead of Eva to the department store since she already is:
(something)->(lead) is Rebecca --(secret half-sister because of an affair)--> Augusta
Jan 27, 2023 9:10 pm
Well, that explains Rebecca's dad's estrangement...
Jan 28, 2023 12:05 am
Have Eva’s sheet mostly done, though I think I have some things in wrong places. Will spend more time on it tonight…

And I don’t know that we really talked about how Augusta, Eva, and Melissa are connected. I have Eva at d6 for both of them now…
Jan 28, 2023 4:16 am
Sheet:
▼ Feel free to shift your values around but keep the totals the same Happy with them as they are.
▼ Take three points to spend between Abilities and Distinctions (new or step up) Ability: Hydrokinesis d4; step up Distinction: Savage, step up Distinction: Wealthy
▼ Take two points to step up extras and locations (no new ones) Step up Schreiber Center; step up Black Lips Books
▼ Take two points to step up Relationships (no new ones) Step up Brian Floyd; step up Melissa Kort
Jan 28, 2023 4:30 am
▼ Take two points to step up Relationships (no new ones) Step up Brian Floyd and Belinda

As we're wrapping up Character Creation, please make sure you note all the following on your sheet:

- Your relationship statements towards everyone you have a relationship with. What does your character think about that person, phrased from your character's perspective. For example: "Brian Floyd cannot be trusted". Consider that these should be formulated in ways that you can act on them or in ways contradicting them
- Then, your value statements. These function similarly, but towards values rather than people. For example, a D12 in power could mean "I value power above anything else" or "Those who strive for power can't be trusted". Again, something you could act on or contradict through your actions.
Both of these are mechanically important!

Also, Distinctions come with triggers at the D4, D8 and D12 level. Make sure you note those down on your sheet. If you have a distinction at D8, write down both the D4 and the D8 trigger.

Similarly, for your Abilities, write down the Effect Type, Descriptor, Limit and Special Effect. Effect Type is set, for Descriptor and Limit, you can pick one of the options or something else that you come up with. For Special Effect, you choose one of the options presented for your power.
Jan 29, 2023 11:33 pm
Getting there on all this. Hope you don't mind, I lowered a Distinction and added a piece of Gear -- a control suit that helps Eva not overdo it with her super-strength. Mostly it's there to get damaged in combat and action and give her complications.

Augusta, Melissa, we haven't talked much about the relationships with Eva and each of you. Ideas?

Dave, yours for Eva is "Dave has been on this path and can help me" -- make sense?
Jan 30, 2023 2:13 am
Melissa doesn't like Eva. She thinks she's ditzy, But she tolerates her. She's not sure if Eva's memory problems are genuine.
Jan 30, 2023 2:22 am
That's a really good Value Statement for the relationship between the two. Dave's statement towards Eva is: has secrets he needs to discover.
I really like that these can be challenged and rewritten as things evolve. Some of the issue right now is that we really don't have a good handle on how the other characters are going to play together. The ability to change the value statements will really help as they grow, evolve and find their voice.
Jan 30, 2023 4:16 am
Here's mine, and I think the sheet is public.

Relationships
Melissa Kort 1d8 Melissa knows what i went through, a sister
Dave Draven 1d10 Without Dave's support, I would crumble
Eva 1d8 Eva will help me fight for justice
Jan 30, 2023 4:40 am
I clicked to make Dave's sheet public but that's pretty spotty if it works or not.
Jan 30, 2023 5:34 am
I can see your sheet, but that doesn't mean anything in regards to publicness, since I'm GM
Jan 30, 2023 5:58 am
I only see Augusta's sheet as public so far. Eva's has been all along (most of you probably know I vastly prefer public sheets, it's my default). Glad to hear the connection with Dave works, and Augusta, seeing yours, going with something like Augusta needs something from me or Augusta needs my help.

And... ditzy?! Oookay. We'll see about that!
Jan 30, 2023 6:00 am
She's ready for review I think, bowl.
Jan 30, 2023 6:02 am
I wish there was an option on GP that the GM could make all character sheets visible to everyone in a game. Would be useful. Or just have that be the default anyway. There's very little reason not to have public sheets on GP. Even if you have secrets you want to store on there, you can always write a note to yourself
Jan 30, 2023 6:03 am
Yup. That's what I do...
Jan 30, 2023 6:15 am
Okay, I took a quick look over your sheets now. Thoughts:

@Harrigan, Dark Lips Books, the Department Store, Gorgon and Mike Crandall (?) should all have 2D, not 1D. They should also be in the Extras/Locations section, not relationships.
For your abilities, you pick one special effect, not all of them (You can gain more through leveling up at the end of an episode).
The way triggers and special effects are listed on this sheet is not very nice for quick reference. But maybe you can look at how some others formatted within the table and make it a bit cleaner

@Windyridge, you're still missing your triggers. Also, you don't trust Brian but still think of Augusta as a romantic rival for him? That seems healthy

@Qralloq, looks good, I think

@witchdoctor, you're missing the dice values for your extras and locations. Otherwise, it looks good, I think

I thought those (Extras and Locations) were on *one* sheet. And those person can use them for free, vs. others paying a PP to use them kind of thing?
Jan 30, 2023 6:41 am
Had to check the rules on that and found this:

https://i.imgur.com/ydDETKy.png

It's not just one person who has access to them. If you're connected to them through the Pathways creation, you have them as extra/location on your sheet, regardless of if you're the one who created them.
Jan 30, 2023 7:45 am
Ah! Holy crap this game is a tangled mess!

Will be fun though!
Jan 30, 2023 7:54 am
Yes

I hope so
Jan 30, 2023 8:08 am
So we're listing everything & everyone we're connected to on the Pathway?
Jan 30, 2023 8:11 am
Yes, but only the connections that have an arrow coming from you.

So, for example for Dave, you would list Plaxo because Dave is connected to Plaxo but you wouldn't list Dartella because she is connected to him.
Jan 30, 2023 8:14 am
Those start out at 2d4, correct?
Jan 30, 2023 8:19 am
I think I'm good to go unless you spot anything else I missed.
Jan 30, 2023 8:31 am
Looks good, I think

No she doesn't like Brian anymore. She found out he was playing her. Or at least thinks she does.
