Though no tools to be found, Dardan notices some of the items strewn about have been broken as if someone moved through here in haste without much regard for their surroundings. Dardan also notices the 'guards' have weapons, the crocodile headed man holds an Egyptian battle-axe and the jackal holds a sickle-like sword, a khopesh. though a little tarnished with age they are in good condition.
OOC:
As weapons, they would inflict 1d6+1+damage bonus

Dardan attempts to remove the battle-axe from the dead man’s grip, expecting it will be helpful to use as a digging tool.
OOC:
Argh! This is where the mummy buries the axe in Dardan’s head!!

Will roll STR in case it’s needed to break the mummies grip

Lord Lyttelton scrambled to his feet upon entering the new chamber and quickly began to survey his surroundings. "I am curious as to why these treasures remain despite the evidence of looters in this place." Richard said in response to Arthur's comment.
OOC:
Well then... No SAN loss, but I apparently got dust in my eye while looking about.

"Perhaps it’s time consider them looters didn’t make it out"Baz mutters to know one in particular. Not spotting a cartouche or any interesting additions to the already translated glyphs Baz stands between the two guards and looks for the obvious exit that must lie here.
"I ain’t exactly well versed in layouts, but do y’all figure that these me two are here to keep watch on a door right here."

Lantern held close and a focused examination of this spot for any signs of a doorway secret or otherwise Baz begins to mutter more to himself as he talks himself through the problem.
OOC:
Looks like the map shows a door or another slab in place here. Dardan might be the best person to look amd Baz will assist of he comes over

As Lyttleton starts to look through the objects, he thinks he sees something interesting, reaches and knocked a number of things over causing a crash of metal that echoes around the tomb.
Apr 11, 2023 7:13 pm
OOC:
The obvious exit is to the north

"Across the room to the north, an open archway leads to another room."

Then there's the slab to the east guarded by the corpses.
Apr 11, 2023 7:16 pm
OOC:
Maybe the tomb raiders remains are in the chamber to the north. Probably worth checking that out before we try opening the entrance on the east
"Whaa!" Dardan shouts in fright at the sound of crashing metal. Then breathes a sigh of relief when he realises it was RJH.

"Sorry! Nerves." he explains to those who stare at him
Apr 11, 2023 7:53 pm
Baz slaps Dardan on the back "Speakin’ for the both us brother"

With the obvious exit pointed out Baz moves with the lantern through the exit to the North.

Dardan retrieves the axe without much trouble.
Baz steps over the scattered plaster and into a room half the size of the antechamber. Compared to that room, it is modestly filled with religious artifacts. The walls are lined with 3 inch high funerary cones made from clay. On the southern and northern walls are two large murals while at the eastern wall is a shrine on which stands an inverted 5 foot tall golden ankh. Hundreds of golden tendrils reach out from the symbol, which though motionless, give the impression of movement and look distinctly unsettling.

A large mat lies at the shrine's base, on which sprawls a human skeleton clothed in decaying tatters. Beside the corpse are a satchel and a small sack.
OOC:
Baz, let's have a History, Language Hierglyphs or Occult, dealers choice.

Also waiting on a Sanity check for Christopher.

OOC:
Dardan will go back to trying to find a way out, by searching for air flows.

He’ll re-light the candle and try using that. Not sure if a Spot Hidden or INT is needed?
Apr 11, 2023 10:09 pm
OOC:
Ne need for a roll, but Dardan will be doing that for the time being.

Meanwhile Arthur is disturbed and mesmerised by the two corpses impaled for eternity to guard a sealed entrance. He tries to remember the significance of the jackal and crocodile heads, and to recall any mention of this gruesome practice of using cadavers as guardians, from his occult readings.

Baz focuses on the Hieroglyphs in this new space and calls out for Lyttleton.
"You gotta reassure me this is normal chief, I got a fantastic case of the jitters look at that thing!"

Dragging his eyes away from the unsettling symbol Baz lets his Vision focus on what he knows best and begins to translate what he can aloud for any who care to hear.

Arthur knows no significance of the heads, other than animal heads being common in Egyptian symbology, even the gods depicted with animal heads.
Baz is aware that the symbol of the Ankh represents life however the inverted aspect and the reaching tentacles speak of wilful desecration and malign intent.

The shrine itself holds countless pieces of ancient incense in small compartments honeycombed through the base. Nearly one hundred tiny statues of men stand around the base of the shrine.

Scanning the walls, Baz's focus goes to the southern wall depicts a large painting of a smiling, black-robed pharaoh holding an oversized set of scales, on which a heart is being weighed against a platter of dead animals, A kneeling figure with the head of a wolf, has a chest wound that is being stretched open by two small men (identical to the figurines). There are some hieroglyphs below the painting.

Baz translates aloud, "The trial has been passed.Forever they shall be tied to this earth through their faithful beating heart, strong of body, awaiting the return of their master."
OOC:
What is everyone else doing?

OOC:
Dardan is continuing to search for air drafts in the main chamber
Apr 12, 2023 1:39 am
Lord Lyttelton joined Baz at the southern wall, tilted his hat upward and took in the scene depicted before them. "Curious, it was typically Anubis whom oversaw the weighing of the hearts, and it was always tested against a feather, not animal corpses." the dilettante said, rubbing his chin.

Can I have an archaeology roll Richard. Baz, your occult knowledge might be relevant here too
