Occult time
"This place has an eerie vibe to it, something I can’t quite get my finger on, Mr. Ferguson, you ever read something creepy in this vein? It’s right there but I dunno, it’s all the symbols…"
Baz pulls his notebook out and then thinks better and pulls his treasured copy of translations from professor Murray out. Instead of consulting the main text he starts running his fingers down the notes in the margins. How does the heart and the animals figure into all this?

@Knifesedgegames Yeah, I didn't roll spectacularly on Luck, but I'll spend the points here. I was already considering it before you brought it up.
OOC:
@Knifesedgegames Would my own Occult roll do us any good?

OOC:
The Occult roll would give you no more that your Arch. so with a Hard Success, you get as much as there is. Go ahead and drop that Luck :)

Richard does believe the kneeling dog-headed figure may be the representation of an Egyptian god, either Anubis or Set. The scene shares similarities to the Weighing of the Heart ceremony, where the gods judged if a person could enter the afterlife however the deceased animals on the scale are most likely representations of other powerful Egyptian gods; thus, the image may be a form of ceremonial perversion or desecration.

If Richard Joseph Lyttelton III was unsettled by what his expedition discovered this far he gave no outward indication, yet. "I would surmise that this pharaoh and the master are one and the same, and that it was believed that he could imbue his devout followers with the same powers of the other Egyptian gods." Lord Lyttelton commented, then glanced around for the photojournalist and added, "Please document the contents of this chamber, Mr. Johns." Lastly he called out to the engineer, "Have you had any luck finding a route back to the surface?"

Baz turns the light to inspect the northern mural which depicts a sickening scene of an Egyptian city being attacked by an army of horrific beings. there are two notable types of creature: those with the bodies of men and the heads of animals, who wield various weapons, and those with the bodies of animals and the heads of men. Black tendrils burst from the ground and sky, tearing the city and its occupants apart. Some of the creatures eat corpses that have been laid upon tables, while others frolic in the chaos. A pharaoh, robed entirely in black, is depicted with an impossibly dark face and seated atop a pyramid-like throne borne by the hybrid monsters, he is being carried through the horrific scene.
OOC:
Let's have a Sanity roll for viewing this, Baz (and presumably Richard, who is also in the room)

Meanwhile, in the antechamber, Dardan has done a full circle of the walls and has found no indication of air movement.
OOC:
I'm going to make that Sanity roll for Christopher (for seeing the guards), as he's not responded yet. No sanity loss

Rolls

Christopher sanity - (1d100)

(47) = 47

"No Mr Lyttelton, there is not sign of air flows in this room," Dardan bangs his hand against the wall.

"I will examine this archway to see if there is a way to break thru," he starts to examine the area of wall set between the two mummified figures.
OOC:
@Knifesedgegames: Dardan is going to look for any weak spots on the wall that would make a good place to dig thru. He will also check the area above and around, to ensure he does not cause anything to crash down on them.

"I must find a way out of this prison," Dardan mutters to himself as he examines, and taps, the wall.

As Dardan examines the slab, it’s clearly too heavy for any of you to move. The stone around it could probably be hacked through, given enough time though the ceiling doesn’t feel structurally sound. Sand and pebbles fall every so often.

"You know in books usually the protagonist finds a way out after they give up so we just need to give up then we will think of something." Alistair says as he sits down on the floor.
Apr 13, 2023 12:54 pm
"This certainly changes everything academia has previously learnt about Egyptian mythology." Richard replied as he began to jot down a rudimentary map and a few notes into a book he pulled from his satchel, then continued, "Once we get out of here, you will have one hell of a book to write Mr. Ferguson. I will personally fund the effort." The dilettante glanced over his shoulder at the writer and cracked a thin smile.
Apr 13, 2023 1:23 pm
"This is Not what I write books about!" Alistair almost yells, "were none of you listening I write book about the future because, well because the present at least shouldn't be interesting enough, to have any good stories because in good stories people die so Rich you wouldn't be able to find my book." He looks about, "what if we don't get out?"
Apr 13, 2023 1:43 pm
"Ah you know what they say, the past is prologue." Richard cracked, paused for a moment as he studied his version of the map, then added, "We will get out, I refuse to see it any other way." With that, Lord Lyttelton sought out Dardan at the other end of the chamber, notebook in hand.

OOC:
So it’s not looking good. Both exits are blocked by slabs of stone, and we have no decent tools to dig out around them. This is CoC, not D&D, so i don’t expect a hidden door anywhere. There might be a hidden mechanism, but what I know of ancient Egypt I don’t think that was a feature of burials.

My suggestions we examine the writings, and with Occult skill rolls hope we can figure a "magical" way outta here. Probably means some of us die horribly, but that’s CoC for you.

I am also curious about the skeleton lying in front of the altar. Who is that? What can it tell us about the setup? Also, how did thd tomb raisers die/disappear?

Dardan is mostly "egg head" skills, but he has Occult & Spot Hidden, do he can support someone else doing the research.
"Everyone! I am bringing you the bad news!" Dardan calls out loudly to everyone. "The ways are being damned blocked. We must find a way to be opening them. A lever or key mechanism."

Dardan starts trying to find something of those types around the main chamber, especially wherever he thinks the original sarcophagus was situated.
Apr 13, 2023 7:03 pm
"On the hunt hoss!" Baz calls back to Dardan. Taking time to look at the writings on the walls for any clues to the construction this tomb or for breaks that would indicate any special hidden features.

Every now and again Baz glances nervously at the dark pharaoh. Ah hell, I cannot die here and now
