From where you are standing you could go to the tunnel and exit we came in through. However you saw the monster go that way in chase of the others and there is shooting going on there, let alone the dynamite detonation. I went the way the monster came into the room you are in seeking its secret exit, as I thought it would leave to go hunting or what have you. Its quiet this way and it has the side benefit of not having a monster at the door...Apr 26, 2023 7:45 pm

Dardan utters a curse in his native Albanian.
"Sir! Sir Lyttleton, it is killed by you," he slaps RJH on the back, then goes red in embarrassment and mumbles and apology. He turns to the workers and shouts at them in Arabic, demanding to know where the other workers are gone.
We are not safe yet, as these others could be waiting to rob and kill us. Caution is needed here.

Baz drops the bloody mess onto the ground and stands to his feet. He cautiously walks out to main area looking to see what effec, if any has occured. As he passes by the writer he nods and taps the brim of his hat. "Mr. Ferguson, can we get out?"
Without quite stopping to chat he moves to the exit and looks through to the silloutted scene of the beast on the ground and his pistol weilding boss standing in the doorway. Broadly smiling and with a bit of gusto Baz strikes a match on the smooth tomb stone walls and puts light to his cigar.
"Good god I need a breathe of fresh air"

Christopher holsters his pistol and and stares at the fallen mound of animal and flesh before him. His hands move to his camera almost without thinking, and he cautiously approaches the fallen beast, finding it no less monstrous in death. He falls into muscle memory, the routine task of capturing photos allowing his breathing to calm and his thoughts to settle... but one thought remains. What is this thing?

"Sir, we should see to secure tightly the site," Dardan waves a hand at the three remaining workmen. "These, well, we need more for the carrying."
Then he looks down the steps to where Christopher is taking photographs.
"With this, I do not know," he shrugs his shoulders. "Many wild beasts in the desert. Maybe best to bury it, hm?"

@Knifesedgegames: what time of day is it, and about how many more hours of daylight is left?Apr 26, 2023 9:13 pm
OK, so you survived, congratulations!
Rewards
At the end of a scenario, you get to roll against skills you used successfully. If you fail the roll (roll over your skill level) then you may gain 1d10 on that skill. Below are the skills you used without the aid of Luck, Push or Bonus Dice. If you spot any I missed, let me know which page it was on.
In addition, Alistair gains 5 Cthulhu Mythos points (this comes with your first bout of madness) and his max sanity is reduced by 5 as a result.
You also may take an increase of 1d6 to your Credit Rating to represent the increase in your fortunes following the successful discovery of the tomb
You also all gain 1d6 sanity for escaping the confines of the tomb

I would be grateful if you could share any comments on your experience in this scenario, especially if this was your first time playing Call of Cthulhu, for me to feedback to the Cult of Chaos at Chaosium.

Have rolled for those items, and made the changes to the character.I have played Call of Cthulhu quite a few times, both in person and here in GP, so I may not be the best person to comment. But I enjoyed the scenario, and as a beginner/introduction scenario it was nice and short. Often they are longer, with a lot of need for characters to interact with each other and Non PCs. So they tend to be very "wordy". As this one was so short, and a lot of action, it skipped that. I think that would help a player new to CoC.
I found it was not too overwhelming with the need for skill rolls, or trying to figure out affects of Sanity. It gave opportunities to Push rolls, or spend Luck, so that helped show that rule mechanism in play.
It helped that you gave lots of explanation whenever there was need, again especially around the affects of Sanity.
As a intermediate level Cthulhu player I found it was a good introduction.
Thank you for running the game, it was lots of fun. It is always nice to survive a CoC scenario pretty much intact!

I think if I were to run this scenario myself I might add a little bit to the start, some sort of prologue where the characters can discuss what they expect to find, their motives, etc. I quite enjoy the opening scene in Masks - Peru, so probably something similar to that. Otherwise, it's pretty decent for an introductory adventure for newish players to the game and the authenticity of the tomb layout is pretty much spot on. I do wish there was more on the pharaoh himself, though I am getting Nyarlathotep vibes off him.Rolls

Oh wow. We survived, I had thought we were all toast for sure. I thought avoiding the big monster by going into his "den" was going to get me killed by its young or the statues would animate etc....I have played in and run a lot of systems, this is my first time playing CoC, and my it has been ages since playing a Play by Post game. So some feedback for me would be great as I now want to do more of these.
It was super short, sweet, and perfect for introducing the mechanics and the game concepts. I am left wanting a lot more.
The character interaction was a little low but what there was had a lot of fun dynamics (thats the people, not the module per se, but good to note.)
I felt like I stumbled onto the means to kill the beast (Sorry, I know that narratively we are assuming RJL did it, love that from Dardan btw) If I had run for the door like the others we would be dead probably. I was looking at the map and with the dynamite ant one end it looked a lot like a cannon to me...
Once the clues clicked with the heart and wall images it was pretty satisfying.
Looks like I succeeded on all my rolls, no improvements but for the cash!

I'm not sure if RJL3 would take credit for the kill if he was told what Baz saw in the jar. He would want to know the truth, it's why he continues to fund expeditions after all.load next
