OOC:
Baz would have assumed he was crazy thinking that what he did was needed. In fact, he may even pretend it was his nerves that made him saw the heart beat. Coming out and seeing RJL standing over the body with a smoking gun... Thats pretty convincing, and he would have even said, "Nice shootin' chief!" Was it me that got a clue that wasn't shared... if it was from the sarcophagus room or the treasury I was on the lam at that point... if i was earlier, I sinned.

The clue:
The trial has been passed.
Forever they shall be tied to this earth through their faithful beating heart, strong of body, awaiting the return of their master.

Incidentally, my preference is for longer form campaigns, of which I currently have three CoC games running. Happy to bring you in if a spot ever opens up, Wendigo.

Fair enough, though I don't think anyone expected to actually find a beating heart somewhere in the tomb, at least not one that had been separated from its body. Once found, it makes sense of course.

Had Richard found the treasury, he would have likely identified the jars as how they stored internal organs and the ankh was the clue which Baz picked up on even without his anthropology skill.

I enjoyed the game mechanism for destroying the undead creature, and also the placement. It means the characters have to break past the creature to reach it, but the dynamite is the big temptation to run towards the entrance slab and hope to blow it up before the creature kills them all. Our group was lucky Baz went the "wrong" way. I imagine there are usually a lot more deaths.
I have played CoC since the 1980's and usually the Classic or Gaslight eras. It has always been my favourite game, although I have played a bunch of others such as D&D, Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, etc. I find the rules so simple compared to other systems, and the scenarios bring up very difficult challenges that can rarely be defeated by fighting.

I had RJL3 make it a priority to blast open the door when it came up IC. At that moment in time he was more concerned with getting everyone out rather than finding treasure. He didn't want any deaths on his hands.

The story was good fun, if a little reminiscent of a dungeon crawl! In my experience, that is quite unusual for CoC scenarios.
Great Roleplaying folks, and many thanks to our Keeper for running it so smoothly!

Funny you should say that, the last one shot I ran was even more dungeon-crawley than this, which is why I opted not to run it a second time. It's not a bad way to convert a D&D player to CoC though :)

I was lost for a goal in the scenario, this likely comes with being accustomed to D&D, yet I knew fighting was a bad choice CoC so I was left rolling random skills. This might also have much to do with the fact that I didn't have a ton of successes, that led me towards a solution.
On a more positive note I do think this allowed me to get a half decent grasp of the rules.

I think approaching CoC with the idea that you will all die or go insane, gives a definite feeling of satisfaction when you don’t. Goals ultimately don’t matter that much.

Happy (and surprised!) to have survived, thank you for running this game! This was my first ever game of CoC, I've been wanting to play for years and listened to a couple of podcast campaigns. I was surprised at how short the game was but again I don't have anything to compare it to other than some years long D&D campaigns I've played which are of course completely different. Definitely feel like this was a great introduction to the gameplay and mechanics. My biggest challenge was getting into the swing of character interactions. I feel those are challenging to do in a forum like this as everyone is commenting at different times and it's easy to miss your opportunity to respond to a specific conversation or interaction if other members of the group were more were online/responding and moving the story along quickly.
All that said I hope to get to play again and possibly bring this character forward into another game, definitely didn't expect to get the chance to "develop" a character (much less to have survived a brawl with the monster).

Christopher would definitely be drawn into investigating the world beyond after this experience, especially after developing those photos.

Good to hear you enjoyed it, Groffincol. I intentionally pick short scenarios for these one shots so I can introduce as many new people to the system as I can throughout the year. They tend to be designed for conventions so would normally be 2-3 hours or less if played over the table.
