November 26th, 1924, Velley of the Kings, Egypt

Your team has mostly been gathered together by British aristocrat, Richard Joseph Lyttelton III, to bring your skills to the unearthing and subsequent investigation of a previously undiscovered tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Following the recent discovery of the tomb of the boy pharaoh, King Tutankhamun, there is excitement around every dig and this is no exception.

You have been working tirelessly with shovel, spade, and trowel in the Egyptian Valley of Kings. The sun beats down upon you as you carefully unveil the façade of an ancient structure cut deep into a cliff face, buried by the sands of several millennia. Your party of contracted laborers works like busy ants and soon a doorway is uncovered. You stand proudly at the top of thirteen steps that descend to an entryway covered by a large stone slab.

"Can you believe it, we'll be the first people to enter this place in probably at least thousand years, and depending on whatever this place is we might be the first people to exit it, I might as well tell you now the New Order isn't anything in the real world I was talking about my books so we won't be finding any secret messages from them here, I'll just learn about how they actually write."

Dardan calls to his workers in Arabic, instructing them to clear the steps and secure the wall of shifting sands.

"Sir! Mr Lyttelton! If you are ready I shall have them clear the slab!" It is clear Dardan is quite proud of the work his men have done. He grabs an iron rod and calls to three other burly workers to do the same. "Give the word sir!"

Now hold on one second Dardan, I think we oughtta soak up any information we can at every stage. Lemmie git down there with my lantern and take a peak at them walls and the slab before we muscle it about.

Baz strikes a match and lights his lantern, he scoops up a brush from the tools piled into crates near the entrance and with a nod to his fellows he slowly descends the stairs with a keen eye on the walls for any markings, occassionally swiping the brush on the wall to remove ancient dust that might obscure any notes. He murmers to himself in thought "Letsee, most folks got themselves a sign or two at the gate, No Trespassin' Beware of this or that critter."

"Even Windsor Castle has a sign out front that reads This Here is Windsor Castle, ceptin' this is a back door..."

The labourers have constructed a primitive pulley system to hoist the heft slab blocking the tomb's entrance into the sky. Stale air from the dark hallway invites you inside with a promise of untold treasure. All of you are excited to be first to enter, no less than your patron, but Baz is first to enter with his lantern. Some of the workers have been assigned to carry your gear inside so you all make your way inside, you are mere steps away from fame, fortune and the discovery of a lifetime!

"Baz, you and your signs! Always looking at letters and such," Dardan replies as he follows Baz into the hallway. He sweeps his arm around the construction. "But you fail to see the wonder of the ancients works. These walls have stood solid for thousands of years." He smacks his bar on one of the walls.
OOC:
Dardan will trail behind Baz, scanning the walls for signs of weakness or danger. of collapse.

"Back door it is... your call chief." Baz gets out of the way of the workers and holds his lantern up high to let folks coming in see.

Arthur is enjoying the excitement and buzz around the dig, at this crucial time. There is a sense of history unfolding. His notepad at the ready, he jots down impressions and moments in words, in this ramp up to a possible discovery.
A silk neckerchief pulled up on his nose and mouth to defend against dust, he seeks the right adjective for the Engineer's pride, the Adventurer's impatience, the Writer's fired imagination.
He weighs his words, knowing the eager readers back home will devour each sentence.

This will make a fine article - it will stroke the egos of those armchair archaeologists at home just fine, giving them the chance to vicariously live this moment... And giving me blank cheques from the paper for the foreseeable future...

You all enter the ancient chamber, the servants letting you all pass first, when there is a cry of alarm. The stone slab behind you suddenly slams to the ground and you are plunged into darkness, you are trapped!
OOC:
Note, aside's from Baz's lantern, the only light source you have is three candles that Arthur has in his pocket. The rest of your gear is with the servants.

Having given the go ahead to remove the stone barrier, Lord Lyttelton snatched up his satchel and approached the entrance just as it was lifted away. "Document everything. Today we are making history." he decreed. However, before he could call for additional supplies to be brought forth, the slab suddenly fell back into place. He turned to Dardan and asked, an eyebrow slightly raised, "Surely you checked the integrity of the crane this morning?"

"Shh shh shh, lemmie listen here." Baz says as he puts an ear to fallen slab squinting.
"The workers have to be riggin that crane back into shape to get this up again right?'". After a few moments of no sound that can drown out the racing heart in his chest Baz looks to Dardan with wide eyes and hope.

Ok, can I have Sanity checks from everyone (1/1d2). Roll 1d100. Succeed and you lose one sanity point, fail and lose 1d2. This level of sanity loss results in an involuntary action, so describe your reaction.

Also, can I have a Listen check from Baz

"Save the candles for now, we don't know how long we'll be stuck in here. All of you should start breathing shallow too, there didn't seem to be any source of fresh air save for the entrance. Perhaps further along, though." the aristocrat said, then continued to patiently wait for his engineer's assessment of the cause of their predicament.
