Would you like to use some Luck on that?

"Don't make no sense to me either Christopher" Baz says as he steadies the lantern looking at the sigils on the slab.

"Chief take a look up here," Baz says calling out Lyttelton "not quite hieroglyphics, but akin to them I figure. Maybe the ancient workers scrawled sumthin' duplicitious on the rocks just as the current works did us a wrong turn" Baz finishes looking at Dardan "They was laughin at us friend. I could hear em' as the dust was settling"

Occult - Slab Sigils - (d100)

As Arthur stands about waiting for the others to study the slab, he notices something under foot. Chips of limestones are scattered across the floor. It might archaeologically significant...
OOC:
Arthur can make an Archaeology roll, but it might be a job for your patron.

"you sure it isn't Hieroglyphics?" Alistair asks peering forward, "you know it's been theorized that there is at least well almost all of Egyptian Hieroglyphs that are still undiscovered makes sense if you think about it too why so little of a language is used for saying the same things king so and so pharaoh whatnot, so it could just be something we aren't familiar with."
Apr 6, 2023 8:56 pm
As the candle light illuminates the walls, you notice there are faded hieroglyphs along the walls but the symbols on the slab are very different.

Ignoring Baz's comments Dardan joins the others by the markings on the slab, and tries to make out what they might mean.
OOC:
Dardan will spend 6 Luck to make the roll a success. Can he figure out the meaning of the markings?

"I am sure its something you are not familiar with my friend, but let's consider this the first of your crytography lessons. These symbols here" Baz points to the walls and notes to come back in a moment to look closer at those. "are proper heiroglyphs. These on the slab are bit more rudimentary and less ornate. they remind me of something but I cannot put my finger on it at the moment."

Feeling a little more comfortable within his zone Baz starts to calm down a bit and even smiles at Alastair "When you put me in your next book don't forget to mention how so very handsome I am."

Arthur calls his friend Richard, pointing out the chips of limestone he has noticed on the floor.
"Richard, come have a look. What do you make of these, old chap?"

Richard Joseph Lyttelton III dismissed the photojournalist's break in protocol, the man clearly was out of his element and prone to a case of the jitters. The noble wouldn't hold it against him. Presently, the aristocrat shifted his attention to those positioned near the door slab and approached with haste, but still with a level of caution due to the low light conditions. Any injury to any present would become a burden on the group as a whole. "What have you found?" he queried and he grew near.
OOC:
@Knifesedgegames: What are we thinking the best roll here would be? Archaeology? Occult? Hieroglyphs?

OOC:
Depends. If you are looking at what Arthur is indicating, then Archaeology. If you ignore him and head up the steps to the slab, then Occult

Meanwhile Arthur follows the others' advice to save the candles for later, and extinguishes his own. His eyes adjust to the decreased light, now the lantern being the only light source in the confined, stuffy place.

Those porters must have been paid... they wouldn't do something like this. unless a great deal of money - more than Lord Richard is paying them - is involved... he thinks.

"I'm sure that it is, Those on the Slab you know if you're going to correct my knowledge of Hieroglyphics then perhaps you could consider using proper grammar in your English otherwise I might not understand."
Alistair proceeds to translate the Hieroglyphs he does understand out loud.

Rolls

Lord Lyttelton paused and took a knee momentarily so that he may examine the curious chips of calcified remains Ferguson had indicated. He traced his fingers through the dust to see whether or not there was more of the material beneath and wracked his brain as to their significance.

Richard then pressed ahead towards the slab as he initially had intended where he joined the others in observing the strange markings that had thus far denied explanation.
OOC:
Okay, noted. Very brief time to post now, as such I'm going to combine both into one.

Rolls

Archaeology (45%) - (1d100)

The etchings on the walls seem to tell a story that Alistair describes. They depict a Pharaoh, who appears to possess great powers beyond those of ordinary mortals. The disjointed images on the panels show him smiting those who do not follow him, and that many suffered and perished under his rule.

He also learns that the Pharaoh rejected the concept of an afterlife, claiming it held nothing compared to the sights and visions he could unveil in this waking world. His followers would behold the truth while those unworthy would rest with their old gods in an early grave.

Alistair also notices there are cracks at certain points of the walls, behind which there appears to be a dark empty space.

Baz is swept up in the grandeur of the moment, sure they are trapped and cut off from the world but Hot damn he thinks, I'm lookin at heiroglyphs not seen by modern man, surrounded by enthsiasts of the very same. Even Lyttelton is toilin in the dirt. He smiles broadly, slaps Alistair overly familiarly on the back and lets out a whoop.

"Whooo boy, that puts a chill in my spine. Mr. Ferguson, looks like you got a handle on the lingusitics jus fine." Seeing Alistair notice the cracks in the wall Baz holds his lantern up high and clears a way for Dardan or Lyttleton to get in closer under the light to see.
OOC:
Baz cannot investigate structural stuff so he will try to make himself usefull with the lantern.
Apr 7, 2023 7:37 pm
Alistair looks into the cracks and not seeing anything looks about, "is there a way to get a better view in there is it a wall with cracks is there something on the other side?" Alistair looks about, "Surely Someone here has picked up a shovel at a dig site before, well speak up!"
Apr 7, 2023 7:48 pm
After brief study, Richard broke the momentary silence, "These markings were inscribed here to protect the tomb's contents against robbery, known colloquially as a curse. Howard Carter found similar inscriptions within Tutankhamun's tomb. Until we understand the full nature of this warding, it's probably best that we refrain from removing any of its contents." With that, the aristocrat retraced his path and took Arthur aside, and gesturing for Dardan to join them as well, then barely above a whisper said darkly, "We are not the first to tread within these walls, my friends, nor do I think we were sealed in here by accident. This feels like a set up."
