Arthur advances in the passage with the others.
"Much was rumoured about Tutankhamun's curse... Let's see if our own little curse here is just as intriguing for the readers..."

He asks the hyeroglyphs experts, "Can we make head or tails of it yet? Any juicy snippets?"

Zeromancer says:
Lord Lyttelton advanced into the passageway a few paces behind the two explorers leading the way. He examined the objects for a few moments, but his focus was drawn to the occultist markings upon the sealed archway.
OOC:
@knifesedgegames Are these markings significantly different from the others that their meaning would require a new Occult roll?
OOC:
@knifesedgegames Also, how exactly is the archway sealed?
OOC:
The markings show the same intent as those at the entrance, no further roll needed.

The blockage is a thick layer of plaster over a layer of wood.

Apr 9, 2023 8:11 pm
Richard furrowed his brow and turned to Dardan', "I realize that we have a limited selection of tools, but would it be possible to remove the blockage while maintaining the structural integrity of the archway?" he asked the engineer.
Apr 9, 2023 9:01 pm
As if in answer, a stream of sand and pebbles fall from the ceiling, hitting Richard's shoes.
Apr 9, 2023 9:31 pm
Dardan glances down at RJH's shoes then back up to meet his eyes.

"Hm, it might be a bit tricky," he answers. "I suggest we quickly find a way out, and worry about the history later. Before we become part of it."

Lord Lyttelton glanced down at his shoes, then up toward the ceiling where the debris had fallen from and replied, "I would prefer not to rely on passages dug by the reckless efforts of tomb looters. For all we know, the most expeditious way back to the surface is through that archway. " Realizing that his options were rather limited, the nobleman sighed and moved so that he may make a closer examination of the chest.
Apr 10, 2023 2:10 am
Baz holds the light close to the chest and nervously raises a cigar to his mouth. Teaching for a match he winced remembering the limited air supply. With a grimace he forgets the match in his vest pocket and instead reaches down to open the lid.
OOC:
Going to open the chest. If that’s empty I’ll take the lantern to the table to look there with all who gather. I imagine the right quarters mean we all sort of see things under the lantern together
Apr 10, 2023 2:29 am
The lid of the chest opens easily enough but the chest is empty except for a few loose beads. Checking the table, there is nothing on it.

" It seems we are dependent on the thoroughness of those who came before us to find a way out of this grave then. Shall we get a move on?"

"Yes Let's Move." Alistair looks about, "so who knows Egyptian history? What Pharaoh do you guys think this is?"
Apr 10, 2023 12:40 pm
OOC:
So who would like to go through? Baz and Alistair are the smallest among you but any of you could get through crouched down.

Dardan kneels down at the face of tunnel and examines the opening. "It is my duty to go first gentlemen. I have knowledge of these things and you know nothing."
OOC:
Rolling Spot Hidden to examine for stress or signs it is going to collapse on him.
He stands up and turns to the group and asks, "If you would please to give me a lit candle someone?"
OOC:
If no one objects Dardan will go thru first. Kinda of hoping he can see if it is going to be safe, and not have 'orrible monsters waiting to bite his emerging head off! Ugh!
OOC:
Just thinking maybe an Engineering roll might be needed as well
OOC:
Pfft! He's too nervous to notice anything, sheesh!

Lord Lyttelton knelt near the entrance to the makeshift passage and peered ahead as far as the lantern light would allow, "I have no objections, Mr. Kela." , the expedition leader agreed, then added, "We should extinguish the lantern until we reach another chamber.

OOC:
@knifesedgegames: I am hoping Dardan can shuffle thru while holding a lit candle. He’ll use his Spot Hidden, Listen, & Science (Eng) skill rolls along the way to check if the tunnel is unstable & likely to collapse with all the men going thru.

Also, it might give him warning of the ghouls, or rat-things in the walls, waiting for him!!
Dardan removes his jacket and ties a handkerchief across his mouth to keep it clear of the dust. With the candle held up in front he scuttles thru the tunnel stopping every so often to check the tunnel walls.
OOC:
Oopsie! Sorry, his nerves got the better of him there. Re-did the skill rolls properly
OOC:
will spend another 5 Luck points to succeed at Science skill if needed

Baz chomps on the unlit cigar in his mouth and nods at the suggestion to put the lantern out for the moment. Following Dardan he crawls through with white knuckles on his hands and knees. Pushing the lantern ahead of him.[/b]

"It’s a squeeze fellas, a dark squeeze. Happy to be in the middle of all this but it occurs to me I coulda been a part of tha follow up crew to do the translations after the tomb has been secured and made safe. Maybe even in the library working from photos and such."
OOC:
Baz will relight the lantern on the other end to make it easier and more comfortable for the others as they follow.

OOC:
Eh, hm. @GreatNorthernWendigo: I thought we’d have Dardan do a solo trip to check it wasn’t a devious trap by the GM, before every one else came thru?

Shall we/can we hold Baz up until Dardan gives the all clear? Would that be ok? Or not, i’m fine either way. Just thought Dardan could take the risks alone
Apr 10, 2023 6:54 pm
OOC:
So Dardan is crawling through with the candle. I'm happy for Baz to excitedly follow (or not), but what light source des that leave everyone else in the passageway?

Dardan, I'll have to take your first rolls for Science Eng and Spot Hidden, so unless I call for new rolls, no need to repeat.
Apr 10, 2023 7:04 pm
OOC:
Baz will definitely wait for the engineer to give the ok.

Richard Joseph Lyttelton III remained at the tunnel's entry point while his engineer checked its structural integrity. While he waited, he responded to Alistair's previous query, "That is quite a puzzle, Mr. Ferguson. While the hieroglyphs tell the pharaoh's tale in great detail, there does not appear to be any mention of his name. There are instances throughout antiquity where an unpopular ruler's name has been struck from the civilization's official records, but there is no evidence of that here. I have not been able to locate any sign of a cartouche, ruined or otherwise. It is rather curious that such a revolutionary, forward-thinking individual would not want their name written all throughout his tomb for all posterity."
OOC:
I imagine that we can keep the lantern lit while Dardan checks out the tunnel by candlelight. I just can't see us dragging a lit lantern through there, we should try to conserve the fuel for the larger spaces. We can use a second candle for the brief time we'll be in the tunnel if Dardan merely signals an all clear and doesn't backtrack.
OOC:
Side note: I don't think anyone has seen my question over in OOC Chatter regarding the lantern, so I'll post it here instead. What kind of lantern is this? Is the flame open to the air or shielded by a pane of glass?
