Having taken actual Egyptian archaeology courses, I can attest that it was a practice for the builders to construct false shafts that led to empty "dead end" chambers, while the real passage was concealed behind an inconspicuous "door". The Great Pyramid has what are thought to be air shafts, but were sealed off at the surface when construction was completed. By the time King Tut's tomb was built, the Egyptians were using much simpler layouts. If I've retained these details from courses I took 20+ years ago, I imagine RJL3 would as well.Apr 13, 2023 10:52 pm

That is helpful. Not sure if it will be true in a CoC scenario, but am happy to grasp at straws! :-) My own experience is fumbling around inside the Great Pyramid as a tourist in the late 1980's, so I only saw the main chamber, and someone had taken all the cool gold from it! LOL!I think it is a good idea for look for false walls, hidden mechanisms. But I think we should also try to decipher the hieroglyphics and look for an Occult message. Anything at all that will get us out of there.

Having heard the others comment on the skeletal remains in the adjacent chamber, Arthur takes a deep breath and enters that room for the first time, to take a look at the corpse and try to find out more about it.
He gasps at the inverted ankh and its many tendrils, and is unsettled by the strangeness of the chamber decorations.

And should that knowledge be relevant, I'll be sure to call for an Archaeology roll to see if RLJ does recall that information. :)Apr 13, 2023 11:33 pm

Alistair sighs might as well spend what is left of his life picking apart the writings of an ancient well... slave probably but it was the pharaoh who chose what was written.
As he looks at the writings he searches for the hidden meanings the morals whatever it was the pharaoh wanted people to learn or maybe even better things the pharaoh didn't want them to learn, he'd loved doing this in his classes analyzing literature but he'd never thought he'd do it with such an old piece.

Arthur carefully examines the teeth inparticular and is able to ascertain the date of death to within the last 10 years. He also notices some of the bones have small indentations, similar to animal teeth marks.

"Hey folks... I think some... animal gnawed at these bones... I see teeth marks..." he informs the others.
He then looks at the tattered clothes of the cadaver. Trying to determine his original attire or status, and checking for possessions.

Lord Lyttelton raised a brow, turned on his heel and joined Arthur near the skeleton, "Teeth marks? It would be rather unusual for a scavenger to come this far underground to seek out a meal, would you not concur?"

He nods. Then casts a glance back at the shadows of the crocodile and jackal-headed guardians in the other room.
"Yes... Unless... Nothing. This place is playing with my mind, old chap..."

The clothes, though tattered, are clearly western in origin, perhaps European, rather than those worn by the locals. Beside the body is a small sack, filled with gold and bronze jewellery.
The satchel also on the mat contains a trowel, a flask, a German Passport belonging to one Sascha Kerner born August 2nd 1880, a resident of Berlin. There is also a leather bound journal written in German and a stick of dynamite.

Baz sets down the lantern and readies himself with his notebook and a pencil. After a few moments he gets his small bag out and washes the sweat and dust from his eyes and even takes a moment to murmur a prayer he learned as boy under his breath.

There are entries dated from 1910 to 1916 describing Sascha Karner’s time as an anthropologist. It also outlines his trip to Egypt and his attempts to unearth ancient Egyptian artifacts. In addition, Karner writes about his English companion, an archaeologist named Dr. Gerald Sutton. There are many entries outlining the difficult work environment due to the Great War, and Karner often praises Sutton for his assistance in dealing with the English authorities. The last four entries appear to be the most significant…
