Most spells are two actions
like Produce Flame

Cantrips make up for the two actions by scaling nicely and giving versatility to 'pokemon' monsters.
Note, some spells are one action or even an reaction. Usually defense spells like

Jurgrindor weaves and dodge’s Octavius flying blade blade, however as the giant settles into a defensive position Octavius lands a blow on his good shoulder.

As the giant stands, a line of blood appears across his chest. Octavius’ near-miss was lacking the miss.

I roll my eyes and say "we could have just bribed him to kill the other guy first". Then I go up beside Ralf and cast acid splash. I'll also have Filbert go over and see if anyone is still alive in the pile of bodies that needs our help, telling him to be careful.

The wounded giant shift at the last moment as the splash of acid flings by. The floor sizzles and bubbles as the acid ‘cleans’ the top layer

Jurgrindor's meaty hand grabs Octavius by the collar, as best as the fighter struggles he cannot resist the giant grip. The grab is followed up by a mighty headbutt which rocks Octavius' bones. Desperately Jurgrindor lift Octavius as a makeshift shield, holding the struggling human to block the doorway from more attacks.
Jurgrindor rolled well. 14 dam to Octavius, also critical misses on attacks (targets AC) might hit Octavius.

The halfling continues her inspiring tune, and injects with a long winded beratement of Jurgrindor despicable behavior. It seems to give the wounded giant pause, opening up opportunities to strike.
