Character Creation

Quote:
Character Creation is presented as a series of steps, similarly to World Creation; you are not, however, bound to take these steps in this exact order. You can go back and modify your choices anytime during the process.

Characters are normally created at level 5.

[ +- ] CREATE YOUR IDENTITY: a short sentence that briefly summarizes how they see themselves at the moment.
[ +- ] CHOOSE YOUR THEME: a strong ideal, emotion or feeling that dominates your character's actions.
[ +- ] CHOOSE YOUR ORIGIN: All heroes come from somewhere: a humble village, a great city, or even something more fantastical.
[ +- ] CHOOSE TWO TO THREE STARTING CLASSES: Take note of the free benefits and Skills gained.
[ +- ] DETERMINE YOUR ATTRIBUTES: Dexterity, Insight, Might, and Willpower.
[ +- ] CALCULATE: Hit Points, Mind Points, Inventory Points, Defense, Magic Defense, and Initiative modifier.
[ +- ] DETERMINE EQUIPMENT, SAVINGS, & FABULA POINTS
[ +- ] FINISHING TOUCHES

Okay, as per previous discussion, I'm going to roll with the idea of a Koga Tattooist/Symbologist.

1. I think the one that makes most sense is that he is a Tattooist In Disgrace. I'm not sure why yet, but he's seen as an outcast by his own kind, and so has to ply his trade to anyone who pays. He is hoping that seeking out the source of the falling pillars will in some way be atonement.

2. So his theme is Guilt.

3. He comes from the Koga Reach.

More to flesh out, but it's a start!

Looking great so far, Sam!

Updated the steps!

Hmm, I think I also want to be a Koga, someone who has never felt at home with his adoptive homeland, for a variety of reasons. He's too young to have seen the Koga Reach in person, but he's heard stories about it from his grandparents. He feels disconnected from the Koga culture as well, being mixed race. He doesn't feel like he fits in anywhere, so he's driven so seek out different lands and different people. Maybe he's some kind of wandering messenger or something - his status as an outsider everywhere might let him go places where some people might not be welcome.

Reading over the themes, I considered Belonging but I don't think that's ultimately what he wants. Maybe what he wants is to help others, so that no one else has to grow up without a true homeland like he did. So maybe his theme is Hope.

I just rolled Student Ninja.

So tempted.

Treasure Hunting Rōnin -- a wandering Samitran who seeks out the Luxstone from Heavensfall, believing it can be fashioned into weapons that will aid his people in the fight against the shadazi and the other dark forces that nightly assault the Pillar of Light.

Can I make the next part up? He's a Damned Warrior Desperate to Avoid His Fate Foretold.

His Theme is Anger. He wants to be with his beloved and his children, but he cannot. He has seen the future, and knows he is their undoing. And so he wanders, determined to never again go home...

More to come.

Glad you think so. Life is pretty overwhelming at the moment, but will try in earnest to finish him.

I worked on this a bit but haven't finished the full write up yet.

Identity is: free-spirited mercenary diplomat without a homeland. He is an orator/wayfarer.

Rolling gave me a Brave Automaton Gladiator. So then I think it makes sense she is from Eskara.

I think her theme is Justice. Almost a Paladin-type. Her creator 'programmed' her to infiltrate some sort of fighting ring, and destroy it from within. And now that programming has stayed with her.

I kinda like the idea of a Guardian/Sharpshooter. Maybe?

Her starting classes are:

Gladiator 3 (Permanently increase your maximum HP by 5, gain the ability to equip martial armour and shields):
- Bodyguard - If you perform the Guard action and choose to provide cover to another creature, that creature gains Resistance to all damage types until the start of your next turn.
- Fortress (1) - Permanently increase your maximum Hit Points by [SL x 3]
- Protect - When another creature is threatened by an attack, spell or other danger, you may take their place (any Checks that are part of the danger will be performed against you; you may declare the use of this Skill before or after the Checks have been made). If the danger already affected you, it affects you twice (resolve both instances separately); you also cannot protect multiple creatures from the same danger. If you use this Skill during a conflict, you cannot use it again until the start of your next turn.

Sharpshooter 2 (Permanently increase your maximum HP by 5, Gain the ability to equip martial ranged weapons and martial shields):
- Crossfire - After a creature you can see performs a ranged attack, you may spend an amount of Mind Points equal to the total Result of their Accuracy Check in order to have the attack fail automatically against all targets. You can only use this Skill if you have a ranged weapon equipped, and it has no effect if the Accuracy Check was a critical success.
- Warning Shot (1) - When you hit one or more targets with a ranged attack that would deal damage, you may have the attack deal no damage. If you do, choose one option: inflict shaken on each target hit by the attack; or inflict slow on each target hit by the attack; or each target hit by the attack loses [SL × 10] Mind Points. Describe your maneuver!

Attributes:
Dexterity - D8,
Insight - D6,
Might - D10,
Willpower - D8

Hit Points - 68/68 (5 x Might (10) + Level (5) + Gladiator Class (5) + Fortress (1 x 3) + Sharpshooter Class (5))
Crisis Score - 34
Mind Points - 45/45 (5 x Willpower (8) + Level (5)

Inventory Points - 6/6

Defense - 8
Magic Defense - 6
Initiative Modifier - 0

Equipment - TBD

Fabula Points - 3

Name - Montblanc - she/her

These are cool, Argo! The mercenary-diplomat thing is almost giving me these, like, professional negotiator vibes, right? It's evoking Roger from Big O in my mind. And the idea that he has maybe made peace with not-knowing his homeland, because of all the amazing places he gets to go to and experience -- and he's just driven instead by no one else losing their home? That's a cool, different perspective.

Mechanical Auto-Paladin is an extremely cool idea, Sam -- I love this one, and I love how it adds to the diversity of our gameworld by spreading the heroes around. Eskara is all clockwork and mechanics, as I recall, so you are fully mechanical parts and don't actually run on soul-power, right? Definitely some interesting stuff there, I think.

Also, love a clockwork gunslinger type. Be still my beating heart. I wonder if we could connect your creator who made you for a just purpose, with the kind of scholarly Galileo-type that Argo and I spitballed as the one who is directing you to save the world.
