Chapter One: On the River Erinin

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose above the broken mountain named Dragonmount. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

Born beneath the fainting glow of the waning moon high in the sky, born amongst writhing currents heated by the fires inside the ragged peak, the wind was strong even at the begin, yet it gained strength as it rushed down the steap, cracked slope. Carrying ash and the stench of sulfur it rushes along the river, blowing at a torch already burning low.

Six figures hold there hoods tight, as they board a small vessel, and depart the white city of Tar Valon. For they knew that the dragon was to be reborn, and the sought him where they thought to find him. There journey would be perilous as the Wastes of the Aeil was there destination, but they would not be deterred.

The ships captain, a rounded man with a Cairhien complexion gives a slight bow to the woman wearing the serpent ring. Aryana Sedai I presume, welcome aboard the Rosewood. She is ready to head down stream at your command.
OOC:
Give a brief description of your characters
Aug 21, 2016 11:29 am
The large man's dark eyes sweep the deck as he steps aboard first, then lock onto the captain as he begins talking. He nods slightly as he decides that he's no threat, at least not for now. The top knot on his head gives him away as a shienaran warrior, and the way he hovers protectively around Aryana marks him as her Warder.

He wears simple clothes, a suit of finely crafted chain mail, and bears a large sword strapped across his back. A number of scars on his face and hands reveal a life filled with battle, but he wears them like a badge of honor.
OOC:
Do us warders have our color shifting cloaks?
Aug 21, 2016 11:47 am
OOC:
Sure, the tower would have given you some, check the rules for them on page 63 of the PDF
Aug 21, 2016 12:13 pm
Tall for a woman, Aryana is dwarfed by her two Warders. She has jet-black hair that hangs in gentle waves around a pretty face that has the serene grace and agelessness of an Aes Sedai. She wears a simple but well-made green dress that accentuates her form and perfectly matches her emerald eyes. Her cloak is dark brown, but a closer inspection shows that it is made of fine material this is waterproof on the outside. She wears fine leather boots and a matching belt, from which hangs a serviceable dagger and a pouch that clearly contains a two small books. On her back is backpack that is cunningly made with numerous small pockets. Her serpent ring coils around a finger on her left hand.

She steps aboard the ship next and nods to the captain. "Indeed, thank you, Captain. Once all of my companions are aboard please cast off."
Aug 21, 2016 8:39 pm
The next man to saunter across the gangplank is a tall Domani with twinkling eyes that seem to shift color from blue to green. He wears a somewhat ostentatious high-collared red cape edged in gold over a blue tunic. Both cape and tunic are little travel-worn but of obviously good quality, much like the man himself.

Jandral watches his sister Aryana with fondness and amusement. Growing up he had always been her protector, and parting with her when he had left home had been one of the most difficult things he had ever done. But now it seems he is no longer needed. Aryana has her warders now. More than that, she wears the serpent ring. Jandral doesn't know what to think of that last. His little sister, an Aes Sedai! He had been incredulous when he received her letter asking him to come see her in Tar Valon, and even now faced with the reality of her he is still having trouble coming to grips with it. Still, Aryana had asked for his help, and she will have it. Such as it is.

Jandral gives the warders a wide berth and nods to the Redwood's captain. He leans against a gunwale, curious, waiting.
Aug 22, 2016 7:08 pm
Elricain is slightly shorter than average, for a Cairhienin, although he takes up enough space for a man thrice his size. Humming a merry tune as he strolls onto the ship. He keeps his head high as he flourishes his many-coloured patchwork cloak and gives an exaggerated bow to the captain, "Elricain, of house Caballein, at your service." Those of you who know your Cairhienin house, don't recognize the name. He is wearing armour made of plain leather, although he has adorned with as many bits and bobs, and colourful pieces of fabric that you don't see the leather much any more. After giving a small wave to the other passengers, he sits down, leaning against the railing, and begins tapping his foot to a tune no one except for him can hear.

A warder stands at the edge of the docks, his cloak blowing in the breeze. While the two swords strapped to his waist are kept in good order, everything else about him, from his plain simple clothes to his dirty blond hair and beard speak of a man who has not considered these things in a long while.
Alojz Kovac suddenly looks up from staring into the soothing swirls of the river that he had been watching with a blank expression. As the tall Kandorian strides up the gangplank a spark of life comes back into the pale ice eyes as they focus on the Aes Sedai his bond had been transferred to upon the death of Alina. He stops next to Pelar, not bothering to glare at the captain. He simply crosses his arms. Waiting for Aryana Sedai to lead him to his death.
Aug 23, 2016 4:35 pm
Another Man Appears. Long Brown hair and a full beard, he has leather armor and a dark green cloak around his shoulders. He stands a about 6'1 with a bow slung over his back and a quiver at his side. He looks around quietly at the others gather his dark brown eyes trying to read those around him.
Aug 24, 2016 5:23 pm
"A gleeman! This trip just became thrice as interesting!" Jandral thinks to himself.

Aryana Sedai nods to the captain. "We are all aboard, Captain."

"Aye Aryana Sedai" The captain offers a deep bow before turning to his crew and begins shouting orders at his crew. The vessel is rowed for a short period to pull it into the currents, but the sailors hardly stop rowing before one of the men approaches the captain, "Captain Veleom, there's flotsam in our way."

If you squint out across the water dark jagged shapes fill the river ahead, a particularly large piece lies directly in your path. At the sight of this peril Veleom shouts in a panic "Helmsmen sharp right! All rowers to left side! Heave men heave!" Turning to his passengers he offers a single cry "Hold on te something."
Aug 24, 2016 10:44 pm
As the captain gives his warning, Pelar grabs onto the nearest sturdy object and then grabs onto Aryana and pulls her to his chest to make sure she is not thrown overboard.

Aug 25, 2016 10:32 am
You reach out to attempt to shift the flotsam but you underestimate both is mass and brittleness, you cannot budge the object but a section does break free.

You are getting closer to the object and can now resolve the shap of the obstruction, it is in fact another ship, that appears to have rolled over. 10 feet until impact...
Aug 25, 2016 3:15 pm
Elricain layghs as he grabs onto the ships railing, "Well, this might just be the shortest boat ride I've ever been on," he says as he begins humming 'Only One Bucket of Water'.
Aug 25, 2016 4:28 pm
Jandral didn't think he'd have to risk it all so soon. He cannot tell if Aryana is channeling, but if she is whatever she's doing isn't going to be enough. Not understanding enough of his own ability he has no idea if he will be strong enough to move the debris, but he has to try. He seizes saidin, a slippery raging torrent of the One Power. Instead of trying to move the capsized ship he sends weaves of air to push the river water aside, in the hope that it will carry the debris out of the Rosewood's path.

Alojz lightly holds on to the railing near Aryana and Pelar. He starts to hum along with Elricain in a supprisling tuneful voice.
Aug 26, 2016 10:48 pm
Holding onto the railing and looking over the side Locas will check to see if he can make out if there are any survivors floating in the water. Seems everything else is out of his control so he might as well focus on seeing if there is someone to help in the water.
Aug 28, 2016 8:43 am
The waves crash around the shifting tipped vessel, creating eddies that twist the ship rapidly under your feet. The bow of your ship essentially pointing towards the riverbank but the stern crashes into the other vessels. A horrible scrapping sound informs you all of the impact as well as the sharp tossing everyone.
OOC:
Jandral you never seemed to grab hold of anything so im going to need a strength check to not be thrown around, Locas your position is a bit precarious so can Iget the same, but you'll have advantage for your handhold.
The remaining speed of the ship drives the vessel deep into the shore, but not far enough to loose it from capsized ship.
Aug 28, 2016 9:09 am
Jandral struggles to keep his footing as the Rosewood collides with the debris.

In the impact Jandral is thrown from his feet but catches himself before sliding too far. Locas gripping the rail managed to prevent himself from falling over but several sailors do fall into the river. Most are able to start swimming for the shore but one who's leg was sliced badly by debris is being washed away.

The boat is thoroughly grounded and badly damaged. Running up from below deck the bilger reports the worst Capn were taking on water!
Sep 8, 2016 10:08 am
Jandral's foremost concern is his sister's safety. He looks over to see how she and her warders have fared.
Sep 8, 2016 10:32 am
Aryana is firmly in the protective embrace of Pelar, who has remained unbudged. Her other warder is also fine despite his apparent lax stance.
Sep 8, 2016 12:34 pm
OOC:
Are we aground?
Sep 8, 2016 12:53 pm
Locas will try to grab so rope and toss it to the sailor that is being washed away to pull him back up to the ship.

Aryana looks up at Pelar, "We need to get everyone ashore...and be wary of an ambush."
Sep 11, 2016 3:23 am
The rope falls well short of the wounded sailor, who is dragged below the river and does not resurface.

The captain comes up to Aryana "I apologise profusely Aryana Sedai, we will indeed need to move ashore for the evening. In mornings light I'll need to assess the damage before I can determine if she'll be able to take you the rest of the way." He indecates to the ship below him as he completed that statement, and continues with a grimace "But judging from the sound I doubt she'll be fine."

Several sailors are bringing the supplies they only just recently took below deck back up, as well as the ships cargo, and take it ashore.
Sep 12, 2016 5:23 pm
Pelar nods to Aryana, "I'm going to go first, to make sure it's safe, you and Alojz follow when I'm sure everything is ok."

With that, he heads down to the shore to look around. If everything appears to be good, he will wave for them to come down.

Sep 13, 2016 12:22 am
Polar, nothing seems amiss in the shore. You don't find any signs of survivors from the other boat, which could mean that the were washed further down stream, this wreck is old, or something more sinister.

Jandral, you actual don't feel too hot, you've been holding a lot of Saidin and its taintedness is making you feel quite nauseous.

Will step forward, Aryana Sedei since we are going to be a shore for the evening if you like i can scout outward from camp to get a better idea of what is around us.

Jandral has been putting on a brave face, but the strain of holding saidin is starting to take its toll. He releases the power and holds onto the gunwale as he catches his breath. In all that confusion, surely no one noticed him channeling. If they'd seen anything strange they'd just chalk it up to Aryana. He needs to tell his sister his secret, and soon.
OOC:
I'd quite forgotten about releasing!/Thanks for reminding!

Aryana nods to Locas, "An excellent idea." She glances at Jandral, but doesn't let her face betray her worry. Seeing no immediate danger, she reluctantly releases saidar.
OOC:
Ignore my previous post; got my characters mixed up. Pelar can totally take care of himself.

Alojz follows Pelar onto shore, scaning the river bank to see if anything stands out.

Alojz you notice that something is of with the sand on the river shore, as if it has bee but turned recently but then smoothed.
Sep 14, 2016 1:39 pm
As everyone else is doing something will make his way to shore and start to scout outward from where base camp will be to get an idea of who or what is around them.
Sep 14, 2016 2:51 pm
Jandral takes the opportunity, while everyone is busy unloading people and cargo, to have a moment alone with his sister. "Aryana Sedai," he says formally as he sidles up to her, "I'm sure you know what you're doing, but I wonder if you'd like to share some of that knowledge. You asked for my help and you'll have it no matter what. But who are these other people? I expected a warder, was surprised you had two - I'm not judging, the more the merrier - but one of them doesn't seem right in the head. And then the gleeman and the silent fellow. I'm sure you have your reasons, I just hope you can trust these people. You can trust me, you know that, right?"
Sep 14, 2016 3:46 pm
She nods and gives a little smile, "Yes, of course I trust you," then looks out at the other members of their team with a more serious expression. "We're going to need everyone's help to get where we are going. Locas is a woodsman, and a good one. Elricain has more tricks up his sleeve than the average gleeman, and Alojz..." sadness briefly crosses her face before melting into Aes Sedai calm once more. "Alojz is my second warder, and neither of us chose the other. I'm doing my best to keep him safe, despite himself."
Sep 14, 2016 3:47 pm
Pelar, not seeing anything amiss, waves for the others to join him on the shore.
Sep 14, 2016 5:15 pm
Jandral nods, sincerely placing his trust in Aryana, particularly with regards what he is about to reveal to her.
"As I said, you know best. I'm sure they all have something special to offer. As for myself... there's a reason I had to leave home all those years ago, and it wasn't my liaisons. If I had stayed we may have found the dragon's fang on our door." Jandral lets the significance of that sink into Aryana before continuing, "When I seize it, it's exhilirating and terrifying at once. I wish it had never come to me, but at the same time now that I've tasted it, life without it tastes like ashes."
Sep 15, 2016 9:15 am
A swirl of emotion plays across her face too quickly to decipher, then she looks up at him with deep love in her eyes and silently reaches out her hand to touch his arm and quietly says, "You are my brother. Always."
Sep 15, 2016 12:19 pm
Jandral, deeply moved, lets out a shuddering sigh of relief. He resists the urge to wrap Aryana in a tight embrace - he knows it would be unbecoming of an Aes Sedai. "Thank you, Aryana." is all that he can manage, but his eyes say it all for a tender moment before the twinkle and the mischief return to them. "Pelar calls. Let us get off this wreck, shall we?" he says, leading the way.
Sep 18, 2016 11:32 am
