Combat
In EZD6 there is no initiative or individual turn order. It's usually players go first then then the GM (Rabble Rouser). In this thread you can decide who among you will go first and strategize. Don’t worry about metagaming in this thread. I’ll also answer questions like ‘which one looks the most wounded’, etc. Some of my monsters have a homebrew rule called ‘Pierce’ or ‘Trample’ which causes armor saves to be rolled with a Bane. Some might even cause multiple strikes of damage. There are no hard rules for monsters in EZD6 but I try not to be ridiculous. For speed of play I use the following table to determine distance:
1.IN YOUR FACE (IYF) - The monsters are in melee
2.NEAR- The monster is within one move of you. Range weapons are considered short distance
3.MEDIUM- The monster requires 2 moves to reach. Some range weapons might be rolled with a bane but most are not. For this game the OWL can reach these with 1 move.
4.FAR- The monster requires 3 moves to reach. Some ranged weapons that are created for long distance, like the longbow, do not suffer a bane but most do.
5.OUT OF RANGE(OOR)- requires 4 or more moves to reach. Range weapons are ineffective.
Improvised Weapons will always be rolled with a bane no matter what class or situation. Example: I had a player try his best to convince me throwing a rock is as effective as a sling. Really? Sorry, I just don’t buy it. Also, throwing a sword is not as effective as throwing a spear or javelin.
Using a range weapon in an IYF situation will incur a bane.
A 1 with a ranged attack on a monster that is in melee with an ally will result in the ally taking a strike. Only using a hero dice may change this.
Sometimes I like to use resistance as a saving throw instead of negating the whole spell; it depends on the situation and the spell. Example: a spell that is intended to distract a foe instead of harming.
You can also create scenery as long as it matches the description. Example: the description has you in a Library so in your post you say 'I take position using a bookshelf as cover.'
