I'm going to be out of town until the 15th, but I have opened this forum for character development and discussion. I have offered invitations to those who expressed an interest in the thread.
Nov 27, 2023 2:08 pm
Thanks for inviting me to this game. Note that I only post once a day Monday through Thursday and take weekends and holidays off. I take weekends off due to they are my self care days so I hope that is ok. I have never played pathfinder before but would love to give it a try.

Can't wait until we officially play but am staying patient. Hope you guys are having a great week though.
Dec 11, 2023 2:39 pm
Let me know when we are officially starting. I'm sick right now but hope to feel better soon.
Dec 11, 2023 4:17 pm
I am going over the characters that have been submitted and we should be getting underway today or tomorrow.
Dec 13, 2023 2:20 am
Before I jump into the posts, I want to make sure that the ideas I had in the message I sent were okay, @WhtKnt. I had just a couple questions regarding Fen's companion and the way archetypes work for the character/companion combo.
Dec 20, 2023 3:23 am
Just a heads up I won't be online this Friday through Monday as its Christmas weekend and will be offline for New year's weekend and I take weekends Friday through Sunday and holidays off and will be offline March 2-10 due to a family obligation so am just giving a heads up in advance.
Dec 20, 2023 2:38 pm
No problem. I fully expect things to slow down between Christmas and New Year's, anyway.
Feb 6, 2024 10:32 pm
Fyi-- in my head I'm envisioning Tom is still off alerting the Watch while this occurs/until he's needed on screen. Someone could send word to his house on where to meet up or knowing Crow he'd eventually check if they had stopped by his temple, and falling that check in with Gern's parents in their shop.
Feb 7, 2024 3:32 am
That's fine. Probably a good thing to report her to the Watch.

Hey I am going to drop out of the game. I can't commit to it right now and am getting ready to go do something with my family in a few weeks so I won't have time to fully commit to this. Thank you so much for allowing me to join the game and good luck on helping Anwyn find her family.
Feb 17, 2024 11:24 pm
Okay, Amber. Thanks for playing and if things get a little clearer and you want to return, you will be welcomed.
Feb 22, 2024 3:35 am
I have a convention I am assisting in running in two weeks, so my responses will be slow or perhaps non-existent until March 4. Please forgive delays.
Mar 7, 2024 6:13 pm
The con was a lot of fun! Our Gaming Guest of Honor was Shane Hensley, of Savage Worlds fame, and both our Author Guest of Honor (Max Gladstone, Empress of Forever and Last Exit) and our Media Guest of Honor (Jake Stormoen, The Outpost) joined us in playing games! Jake and Max even underwent the Klingon Day of Honor ceremony where they pronounce their great deeds for the year and bring honor to their house (our local Star Trek club does the ceremony every year for anyone who wishes to undertake it). I'm sorry to take so long to get back to this. It's been a whirlwind three days since the convention with wrap-up details (getting people to the airport, paying taxes, etc.).

may be a little quiet this weekend. I was just let go from my job today. would have had my 10 -year anniversary in june. not sure if I will be shutting down for a few days or going batshit crazy trying to distract myself. we shall see.

This would be an excellent time to recruit a 5th player.
And maybe we levelled up? Seems we hit a milestone.

Yes, everyone can level up, and we can certainly try to recruit another. I'll make a post in a bit.

I'll be jumping in to introduce my PC as soon as I can, but I also am catching up on reading everything that's come before now.
Jun 1, 2024 10:46 pm
I am still actively here but had a horrendous situation unfold yesterday (can this year get any worse? I don’t think so at this point) so if I misunderstand a post or don’t communicate clearly, please let me know. My brain is a bit … muddled as I cope with reality. My husband lost a his best friend since high school; a man I had also become very close friends with. They were basically brothers and were living together when I met my partner. Life is exhausting.
Jun 1, 2024 11:19 pm
I can understand and sympathize. Two years ago, my best friend since high school (I'm 54) committed suicide. He was very much my brother. You and your husband have my deepest condolences. Take the time you need and we'll see you when you feel up to returning.
Jun 2, 2024 8:18 pm
I'm taking a short vacation without Internet access from Wednesday, 5 June until 10 June, and will be unavailable during that time.

Jomsviking says:
Something we have been doing in other games to speed up the dungeon crawling is skipping empty spaces. They dont actually add anything to the game. Instead the GM just asks us which encounter or room of relevance(red herring included) we would like to explore.I'm currently playing in a couple of other games where we are exploring dungeons - Stonehell and the Caves of Chaos - and in those games, a big part of the fun is finding each room, mapping it, and discovering whether there's anything of interest there (treasure, secret doors, etc), even if there isn't an encounter there. Since there is a map in this game, I could see this proceeding in a similar vein (I've been assuming it will).
At the exact same time, I'm running a game where the PCs are following a map through some labyrinthine sewers. There is no map for the players; their characters are following a map, and it takes X amount of time to follow all the directions and traverse all those tunnels, and at regular intervals I check for random encounters in addition to the prepared encounters that happen at specific intervals. The thrill of discovery in that game is from finding out what happens next, not creating a sense of space. Since the party is following Oshgal's tracking, I could see making the transition to this mode of play for this section.
Either way works for me, but when there's a player map, I do expect to be filling in that map.

I'm with you, I think, Space--I'm amenable to either approach depending on how the story is structured. Detailing the exploration of an unknown space is fun if you're mapping it out and trying to figure out what doors lead where and focused on the suspense and potential danger (and I'm also having a lot of fun with that in Stonehell, and would here); but I can also see the appeal of a more concise 'you walk until you hit the next key decision point, now what do you do?' approach depending on the tone the party prefers and the feel of the game the GM wants to present.
Me, I'm fine with either, I'm just happy to be here. :)

I tend to think of PbP as a comic book. You can of course have transitional scenes in comics but they tend to be an establishment cell, and then not done again until some new location is found.
My friend likes to detail everything, when he makes a dungeon it accounts for toilets and broom closets and looks super beautiful, but it was useless. We would spend hours mavigating a complicated labyrinth with nothing to show for it. Also it slowed the pace so much he seldom ever had a chance to roll random encounters. And this was at a table.
My design philosophy is that there is no empty space. Everything tells the story, because we are both actor and viewer. Empty corridors do exist in real life, sure, but are we in a game or running a simulation?
I am not arguing either way, just pointing that engagement has decreased and this is a potential resolution.

I will move things along tomorrow (been very busy the past four days) and will gloss over the unimportant parts.

Apologies to all. I think I need to step away from this campaign. I thought I could handle learning a new rpg style, but I have found myself anxiously avoiding these threads because I feel stupid not understanding Pathfinder. Rather than continue to be dead weight and frequently mia, I think I should just stick to what I know (or what is a group test run, for those of you who have game overlap with me).
Again, I’m sorry for dipping out like this and all the stalling I’ve done between posts. I just am not ready for Pathfinder. :(

I understand. Thank you for letting us know and not just ghosting us. Have fun on the boards!
Nov 6, 2024 4:16 pm
I will try to get a move out in the next few days. I just wanted you all to know that if I should suddenly disappear, it's not any of you. Know that I have enjoyed the game and it has been an honor to be your GM.

No worries, I've been having fun. I appreciate the effort you've put into the game and keeping us running!

Just a scheduling head's up: I have a busy weekend this week, and may not manage to post every day.
Nov 27, 2024 10:30 pm
Once again, my wife and I are on our way to Walt Disney World, Dec 1-6, there will be a suspension of gameplay during that time (though if I find a moment, I may check in). Thank you!

I'm back, but I walked into a hornet's nest of busy with the holidays. I will try to get something posted in the next day or so.

Happy New Year everyone. Look for a new post tomorrow, when I can take a minute.

I am going off the grid this weekend and will not have Internet access, but I hope to be able to get a move or two in before then.

Jomsviking, I just made the connection. Your name is a reference to the semi-mythical land Jomsborg. Very clever. I knew it seemed familiar, but I just couldn't place it.
Feb 16, 2025 10:04 am
Jomsborg may have been a myth, but Jomsvikings were and are real. Just like most knightly orders of Europe have their roots in Heathenry, most notably the Teutonic Order, the Jomsviking were/are a Heathen "crusader" though it should be noted that the Æsir(Tyr exempted) have no use for an unwilling adherent. Therefore crusader is a misnomer as there is no convert or die imperative in heathenry.
Tyr's use for anyone is to die or kill in war and all who die in war regardless of their religion are a sacrifice to Tyr.
But Tyr is an enigma, for he is no Euhumerized. Many take this to mean Tyr is force itself. As his mortal enemy is indolence. The ancestors seemed to have a strong understanding of quantum mechanics.
Thanks at any rate.

Okay, I just checked and WittyName has been inactive for 8 months and MinMin has been inactive for 3 months. I'll play their roles to finish out this adventure, but it may be time to either recruit some new blood or call it quits. What do you folks prefer?
Apr 23, 2025 2:54 pm
I'm going to be out from next Tuesday (April 29) until the next Sunday (May 4). We are making a trek down to Disneyworld and I will not be able to respond to posts. I should be okay to respond until that time. If I am in your game, please bot me as necessary. If you are in my game, sit tight and I'll pick up when I return (though as I said, I should be able to post up until Tuesday).
Jun 23, 2025 2:16 pm
Just FYI: if I ever roll a critical threat (nat 20) and don't remember to confirm it, the GM has my permission (encouragement!) to roll that confirmation for me. It just goes faster that way.
(I also prefer it to the alternative of the GM just saying "It's not confirmed, so it's not a crit," though I recognize that would be similarly efficient in terms of posting turnaround time)

My wife is recovering from hip surgery, and I have taken over household duties. Please forgive my slow posting rate.

On that note, I'm going to be on the road 4 - 9 July, so I'll be posting slowly or not at all during that time.

Tailor himself is also really battered, with only 3 hp left.
AOE damage is not the summoners friend
OOC:
Okay, didn't think about Tailor just resummoning him (though I guess it is a different personality). Didn't want you to lose a key part of your character so early the campaign.Beside, Tailor is a kid, and this is the first time Taal went down. There is some emotional processing required.
Unless, @WhtKnt suggest that trouble is ahead and Taal should be summoned ;)
[ +- ] L1: Eidolon
A summoner begins play with the ability to summon to his side a powerful outsider called an eidolon. The eidolon forms a link with the summoner, who forever after summons an aspect of the same creature. Each eidolon has a subtype, chosen when the eidolon is first summoned, that determines its origin and many of its abilities. An eidolon must be within one alignment step of the summoner who calls it (so a neutral good summoner can call a neutral, lawful good, or chaotic good eidolon) and can speak all of his languages. An eidolon is treated as a summoned creature, except it is not sent back to its home plane until reduced to a number of negative hit points equal to or greater than its Constitution score. In addition, due to its tie to its summoner, an eidolon can touch and attack creatures warded by protection from evil and similar effects that prevent contact with summoned creatures.
A summoner can summon his eidolon in a ritual that takes 1 minute to perform. When summoned in this way, the eidolon’s hit points are unchanged from the last time it was summoned. The only exception to this is if the eidolon was slain, in which case it returns with half its normal hit points. The eidolon does not heal naturally. The eidolon remains until dismissed by the summoner (a standard action). If the eidolon is sent back to its home plane due to death, it cannot be summoned again until the following day. The eidolon cannot be sent back to its home plane by means of dispel magic, but spells such as dismissal and banishment function normally. If the summoner is unconscious, asleep, or killed, his eidolon is immediately banished.
The eidolon takes a form shaped by the summoner’s desires. The eidolon’s Hit Dice, saving throws, skills, feats, and abilities are tied to the summoner’s class level and increase as the summoner gains levels. In addition, each eidolon gains a pool of evolution points based on the summoner’s class level that can be used to give the eidolon different abilities and powers. Whenever the summoner gains a level, he must decide how these points are spent, and they are set until he gains another level of summoner.
The eidolon’s physical appearance is up to the summoner, but it always appears as some sort of fantastical creature appropriate to its subtype. This control is not fine enough to make the eidolon appear like a specific creature. The eidolon also bears a glowing rune that is identical to a rune that appears on the summoner’s forehead as long as the eidolon is summoned. While this rune can be hidden through mundane means, it cannot be concealed through magic that changes appearance, such as alter self or polymorph (although invisibility does conceal it as long as the spell lasts).

I'm struggeling with playing this 12 years old 3rd level character. His best friend just die and he was close call for Tailor himself. (The fire trap could have killed him)
At the moment I'm searching for a reason why he is staying with the group, cause this is no longer a fun adventure. At the age of 12, there is little sense of duty.
I'm sorry if I'm rocking the boat for this game, I thought we were playing kids, not harden adventures in kids body.

I have to share the sentiment. As it is, I can suspend disbelief, that a noble child would ditch his family for a days-long journey with strangers, but on its premise, it’s weird, for me.
I’m basically going to start playing Darvin as something of a regular adventurer, at least a coming-of-age one.

Thats the spirit!
The setting itself is barely after the Time of Troubles. Most of us were born during the events of Cormyr when the weave of magic was torn apart. Then there was the Godswar which happened during our toddler years. And the Neverwinter-Luskan war just started. So it makes sense that there are very few adults. And it is unfair that the children have to pick up the slack. No one else is going to. But who said life is fair?
Granted my childhood was not necessarily something that was conducive to being a child. Growing up quick and mean. Just can't relate with "childlike" behavior.

Understood. If it helps, remember that you have been thrust into something for which you are not prepared. You've had to grow up quickly. Though I will admit that the adventure has taken a darker turn than originally intended (my original intent was more light-hearted adventures, but as often happens with my writing, my heart took over where my head wanted to lead). The book I am referencing, Childhood Adventures, does not really address the idea that 12-year-olds even in a light-hearted game, if not denied experience points, would level up more quickly than they would age and I'm afraid that I didn't put much thought into it either, or I might have gone another route. If you find it impossible to suspend disbelief, I will not feel ill towards you if you wish to go (though I hope you stay).
Alternately, we can abandon the idea that they are children and just "age" them up, if that makes it easier.

I've tried to use dialogue from my character to keep things fun and "kiddy", but I'm happy to work with the group to play however people are most comfortable.

Then let's take the easy out and just age them up. If we need a storyline reason, we can say that it was something Halaster did in Undermountain. Undermountain is full of surprising and odd things and effects. By the by, there is a motivation (at least for Trig and Crow, and possibly the rest of you by extension) in that whoever came after Anwyn has now sworn vengeance on them for their interference.
Anyway, it's easiest to say that they have always been adults, so let's roll with that, if everyone is okay with it.

Excellent! Making minor changes to Darvin, small young person to medium adult person.
I feel like it’s a good change. As much as I liked what I took to be kind of a Hardy Boys concept, I think I’ll ultimately immerse into the game a bit better now.
Hope y’all are well today. :)

All my existing character business goes out the window...but I think I have some ideas on making new stuff that will be fun, too. It'll be a bit disjointed when we come back and read the game threads years from now, however. I'll try to note when it happens so the reader (most likely just us) will have some idea.
