"Hmm."

Chester's narrow lip contorted a bit as his tongue worked something out of his teeth, then extended his tongue. He took a tiny nugget of something, rolling it between his slender thumb and hardened forefinger, examining it closely with one eye. "Hard tack. And not my usual vendor for emergencies." His tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth. "And... honey? Or some kind of confection." He eyed the vast, dead wasp with some consternation.

"Whatever spell or witchery compelled us here, it's kept me for at least a few days, if I deigned to eat this." He flicked the spherical crumb towards the beast with distaste. "And it likely compelled us to raise arms against our presumptive rescuer."

Well, seems like you're destined to never know the identity of this mysterious woman (though other players can still make their Intelligence (Culture) checks).

Hmmm. Intelligence (Culture) check. Scarfs scarf the few coins.
Intelligence (Culture) check - (1d20+3)

(11) + 3 = 14

GM. Did you miss this or did my 14 rolled come up blank.

OOC:
Oh yeah, sorry Gene, I completely missed it for some reason.

Scarfs Looks about the mess she sees. There is this male Humanoid Cervine that claims to be an inspector of sort. A male Half-Orc that says he is a ranger that thinks that spider thang hunts angels or planar thangs. Then there is a guy who is a strange 6' dwarf and looks to be a fighter type of some kind. There is a little male halfling looking around. And this quiet hooded man.

"Well. I can safely say we are mess. That was Annika Crestveil, a famous adventurer who just got knocked off by that spider thing that looks possibly planar like. And all she told us before she died was "You're finally free." Whatever that means."

With another breath, "You all seem vaguely familiar, but I can't place a single one of you. Only thing I'm sure of is that is the way out and all of you look like adventures. Would be nice if the rest of you would at least chirp up a name too."

"Unless you have any other thoughts, I say we find out where this staircase leads to." as Scarfs moves to the stairs after taken down a torch for light. "Lets see where this goes." She is being not particularly quiet and careful. Scarfs has a shortsword drawn in her other hand.

She appears to have decided to leave this place. Post haste. With no idea of where she is. But has decided being here isn't going to solve anything. She can sort this mess out later.

The halfling suddenly looked up from the examination of the wasp-thing and for the first time seemed to take in its surroundings. This place sure felt underground. Which was good. Halflings liked burrowing and living in the earth. But of the incessant babbling of the tall-folk around him was to be believed, this was some form of cult. He looked down at his black robes. Yup. Those were exactly the kind of robes a cult member would wear. He would know. He had been in one. Two now! Progress!

"If I'm a cultist again, I wonder who I have been worshiping. And if I got something in return for my effort!"
Dec 3, 2023 7:31 pm
Scarfs only looks back as she hears and notices the Halfling move. Shakes her head and continues on as she hears some babbling. She thinks. "Yep, it is a Halfing. And probably lost."

Looking at his robe, Garbuffel will notice (as well as anyone else who takes the time to examine their robe) there is a strange symbol sewn into the front of it which looks like a stylized insect wing.
Dec 4, 2023 1:05 am
Eronar rubs his face, looking haunted, "My name?" he asks, pulling it from the recesses of his memory, "I'm Eronar and I'm a woodsman. I think..."
Dec 4, 2023 6:29 pm
Garbuffel was fascinated with the stylized insect wing on his robes. He rubbed over it, thinking out loud...
"Hmmmm. Bug. Bugs can be strong. Especially the big ones..."
Dec 4, 2023 8:00 pm
This looks like a bug cult of sorts. Properly to those mind controlling things there.
Roark draws his sword and dagger and starts up the stairs. Its time to get out of here
Dec 4, 2023 8:54 pm
Scarfs comes to a halt as she suddenly realizes that are not the dark robes she owns. Similar but not the ones. Doesn't take a moment to spot what everyone is talking about. She strains her mind to figure this out about the symbol.

She mutters to herself, "This somehow is the reason well seem familiar."
OOC:
I toss an open D20. Not sure what to roll against. Have a feeling with a 4 it doesn't matter.

OOC:
Perhaps the cult is too recent for you to have heard of it...
Coming up the stairs, you arrive in a room 25 ft. to each side. It is filled with dilapidated pews facing a dais on which rests a ruined altar which has slit to the left to reveal the stairway by which you emerge. There is a closed door to the east and west walls as well as a set of double doors opened ajar on the south wall.

Scarfs with torch in hand walks over to the ajar doors to peek and see what is to be seen. And to make sure nothing is going to surprise her. She doesn't move the doors unless she needs more space for a view. She still has her shortsword drawn to answer any problems.

Eronar isn't much for religion, but he makes his way to the alter to see if there's anything there that will give him a clue about this cult...

Rolls

Religion - (1d20+0)

(9) = 9

Garbuffel follows Eronar to the altar. Altars were important, after all! If there was a smidgen of (un)holy power to be snatched up, it would be there!

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+5)

(7) + 5 = 12

Religion - (1d20+2)

Roark examines the catecoms again from the top of the stairs. He is no stranger to ruins and dungeons, and he tries to deduce what the purpose of catacombs could be. A secret entrance below the alter. What ever for?
OOC:
his background is Dungeon Robber, so its not his first time under ground

Rolls

Investigation / History / Culture - (1d20+4)

(10) + 4 = 14

Peeking through the double doors, Scarfs will notice a large 10 ft-wide corridor which plunges into drakness beyond the range of her torches. The whole corridor looks wet and glistens in the torchlight.

Eronar and Garbuffel both examine the altar. Whatever deity it was dedicated to, it must have been a very old or obscure one as they both fail to determine who it is. They do both notice, however, that strange runes still glow in the front of the altar, as if a puzzle had recently been solved to slide it aside and reveal the staircase.

Roark takes one last look at the crypt below before ascending the staircase. This does seem as the last resting place of holy men. None of them seems to be wearing anything remotely similar to your dark robes so Roark is pretty certain they did not belong to the cult you seem to have been recruited (or shangaied) into.

Scrafs pulls away from the double door, "This places looks disused badly. Looks like a slimy hall ahead of us. You guys discover anything to help?"
Dec 6, 2023 12:18 am
Eronar shakes his head, "Not really," he says, "Looks like the altar was hiding the opening the staircase we came from, but nothing else interesting."
Dec 6, 2023 12:25 am
Though he would have investigated further, he seemed not to want to be left alone in such a place. "Dwarf," Chester spoke to Roark as he ascended the stair, "Can you tell our depth?" The lack of windows in a place of worship was a warning sign, but perhaps it was a benevolent dwarven hearth-god's temple, or some sort of benign mole deity...
