With a shrug, a very impressive and full body length event for the ooze, he acquiesces. I doubt they would believe it but all this chasing and fighting is not going to give them the impression I would prefer they have.

Once the guard is stable at least he will help transfer goods to the horses.

Does a short sword happen to be a dex weapon?
Zaiashi helps stabilize the guard and make him 'comfortable' on the wagon. Looking at the group he wonders out loud "Do you think the horses can carry 2 people each?"

@ChrSch. I believe Shortsword is a finesse weapon.

The shortsword as listed here has the Defensive (medium), Finesse, and Parrying tags, making it a DEX-based weapon. However, it does lack the Simple tag meaning it is a martial weapon. Since Cleric are proficient in only simple weapons, you would not add your proficiency bonus when attacking with a shortsword.

Jmm, okay, weird, seems a character's speed has no bearing on travel pace. So forget what i said about how travelling without a wagon will make you slower...
Belton take out a map he has with him.

"Going through the North Riding, we'll have about 50 miles to do before reaching Halfpoint. With its history of smuggling, the residents over there will be willing to turn a blind eye to our activities. It will also be a good place to resupply if we need to. Then from here, we can cut through the Crawley Hills to reach the Weirwoods or we can go down to Thornbury and hope we arrive before words of your exploits at Northminster..."

What typically seems to matter for distance travel is roads and terrain. We could potentially mess up the wagon tracks if we take it follow along the main road and then cut off on a secondary path along the way. Crossing the river is sure to muddy our trail too.

I doubt they can track a specific wagon on a road. The road is definitely the fastest way in reality but in D&D it doesn't usually matter other than potential obstacles. The problem with the road is it will likely have more patrols so it is easier to get spotted. I doubt they have great descriptions so a simple disguise would work for most. But Ugost kind of sticks out as there are few of his race. Off road is just to avoid patrols.

I assume we followed the road? If so would we not be on the east side of the river now? What is the map scale? We traveled at a fast pace the first day but we pulling a wagon so ... 16-24, minus late start, miles from Northpoint then whatever we have already traveled today . . . .?

Each hex is 5 miles. You're technically still in the same hex as Northminster (probably very close to its border, remember that Zariana had steered away from the main road after the flight from Northminster and its ensuing combat).

I thought we'd rode on for a while before camping out. Less than 5 miles is practically next door.

OOC:
Ok. If we're that close and they already have us located with that last fight. We definitely need to cover ground fast and maybe change directions.
shall we set if we can can cross the river or would that be to favorite at this point? I want to get as far from town as possible without getting speed again.
Splitting up might be the best way to hide out tracks as they would know the number of horses we now have.

I'm going with what the scenario assumes (50 miles puts you either at Northminster or one of the adjacent hexes on the horizontal axis, although, now that I check the map more closely, you could have also crossed the river...), if you want to be further away, I'm fine with that, but you'll most likely have more than 50 miles to make before reaching Halfpoint.
Belton scratches his chin. "The roads are going to be risky, expect patrols and blockades. Some of you can disguise yourselves, as I've noticed, but the rest of you can't. That plus we must keep in mind that we now have two horses with Northminster's markings. I assume we could split up, but that would mean I'd guide one group while the other uses my map, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'd like to have insurance that you'll make it back with my map."
OOC:
There's also the fat that I'd rather avoid making two Journeys for 2 separate groups. Having one group resolve a combat encounter or an exploration challenge will be a bit annoying for the group that only got a scenery or social encounter instead...
Jul 23, 2024 2:50 am
I say we move on as a group and do our best to hide or disguise the NorthMinster markings. Covering the brands, removing any buckles or such on the tack.
Jul 23, 2024 3:41 am
I agree on the party movement as a group. I don't see much to do about the two horses. (We just don't have stuff with us to really do anything about them. Need to get to a town where we can purchase stuff to disguise them. Scarfs in the end probably have to give up Pinto.) For sure off-road movement. Hope for the best.

OOC:
If we already crossed the river there is no point in heading to Halfpoint, but rather we should go to Ringwood.
But if we are stil on the west bank of the river the smugglers trail sounds best
I am fine either way, just clarifying expectations that with mounted guards 5 miles is not that far so in the future we would want to stop much further than that if we stick to roads. Cross country where there is no set path a couple miles is a lot of area to cover and would be sufficient for us to feel safe I think.

Ugost wonders, somewhat uncertanly, that perhaps the marking on thwe horses could be changed or removed, by blade or flame, then healed? The sadles and bridle should also have their identifying marks and colorations removed or hidden if possible.

Vuraz suggests to go through the old smuggling path. He will take his chances with less patrols.
Jul 24, 2024 7:12 pm
Zaiasgi could heal the horses if someone were to burn of their brandings.
And less patrols sounds good, at least until we're a little better equipped.
Jul 25, 2024 3:46 pm
"If we pack horses with supplies, yeah then we should be able to hide most markings with the stacked supplies. And that should last, well, as long as the supples last... Maybe even more reason to resupply along the way."Offers Belton as suggestion.
