You all are amazed at the effect the valley has on the local vegetation. Outside the valley, the nip of the easterly wind had pushed the foliage through the beautiful oranges, reds and golds to the dull brown of deep fall. As you descend into the valley, you notice the greenery still holds the deep greens and citrons of the heart of summer. The temperature seems to rise as well, causing you to open the windows to let the building heat escape the car.

The lawyer doesn’t notice anything.

The smug face of the man that he owed his limp to wasn't leaving Mickey's mind - who has been spending his time in silence, weighing the odds of getting his ass wooped by the Boss if he smokes the bastard in case their paths crossed.
"Boss definitely won't be happy... Definitely..."

As the road progresses, it seems as if the corn presses in trying to envelope the road even so far as at one point it leans from both the left and right, almost forming a tunnel that the car passes through. While none of your group are experts, you can easily recognize this must be a banner crop year.
Jimmy begins to feel the heat especially poignant as a warmth begins to overtake him. Even as he unbuttons his shirt, he feels a radiating, stifling, almost overwhelming pulse of heat. Jimmy finds himself thinking about his brother and his mother.
The thought leaves Jimmy’s mind as Lenny drives the car over a covered wooden bridge. The rattle is enough to jostle the contents of the car as the gaps seem too far between boards. An odd thing happens to Manny as the rhythmic tapping of the bridge boards seem to echo a life beat. The lawyer feels the sway of the car and the sound and they seem to be in tempo with the beating heart he has so longed to pull close to his bosom.
Abruptly, as the car exits the covered bridge, a man is standing partially in the road. His eyes are sunken and shadowed. His beard is scraggly and unkempt and his brown hair stands frazzled. He holds a wooden stick with several fish attached to it with twine.
Slamming on the petals seems to have no effect... perhaps it was the wrong combination? Gas and Clutch? that would explain the loud noise right? steering. steering that worked right? unless there was a bridge to fall of but if he could get it right...

Lenny and Mickey sit in the small Irish parish they were raised in. The parish priest is performing the liturgy of the Eucharist while the brothers kneel. An overwhelming sadness descends upon both of them as they look up at the statue of Mary. The holy mother stands, her heart exposed, her arms open and an expression of sadness and longing graces her face. As the brothers look on, the statue begins to weep tears of blood. Lenny recognizes these as tears of joy, for the holy mother feels him returning to her. Mickey sees the tears as tears of judgment and condemnation, feeling the holy mother’s wrath to any that would keep Mickey from entering his true mother’s embrace.
Manny sits in his favorite restaurant, the surrounding patrons and tables seemed blurred and distant. Coming into focus is Ania as she brings a steaming bowl of soup to the table. As Manny reaches for his silverware, he realizes that both of his hands are in casts. Ania purrs It’s alright darlin… We all need motherin’ from time to time. The waitress sets down the soup and comes close to Manny’s ear. The lawyer feels the tickle of her breath as she whispers directly to his ear, I’ll be your mother, and I’ll take good care of you…. Ania plops herself in Manny’s lap as she begins to spoon feed him the soup. Manny is taken aback by the flavor of the soup as it almost seems like it is made of overripe fruit.
Jimmy feels the crack of the switch slap against his back. He holds in his tears as the anger and hatred boil within him. Suddenly, the beating stops. He hears his mother’s voice James… James… I’m sorry. I… I didn’t want you to be like your father… like your brother… I… I just saw such beauty and intelligence in you and I wanted to keep you from going down the same paths they went down. Those paths of darkness. I… only want you to be happy… for the best for you… to feel my love. You… you know I love you, right sweetheart?

It runs down his nose and into his mouth.
Mmm good soup. he murmurs.
He smells… sweet fruit? No It’s gasoline. It’s definitely gasoline.
Ania! he calls out in a panic. Get out of the car!
He looks around for the waitress but only sees his companions.
Despite the pain in his arms, he manages to open the door and stumble out.
He looks at the crew wishing the gas tank would catch fire and its flames would engulf them and blow up the car as the gas tank explodes.
Burn in Hell. he mutters as he walks backwards away from the wreck.
But he sees Mickey's face, he isn't content... Why?
'Mikey must think he won't make it to heaven!' Lenny realizes and suddenly panics he can't go yet, heaven literally can't exist without Mickey without Mickey and... and Lulu.
He can't believe he's forgotten Lulu and suddenly he comes to.
"Mickey! Mickey! I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry, You need to get up now though we need to get out of here!"
Manny stumbles backward to the embankment that is a steep slope up to the road. Echoing from the shores of unconsciousness and laced within the yells of Lenny he hears the voice of Ania call See you again real soon darlin. It was something Ania always said when he left the restaurant, but for some reason it turned the lawyer’s s stomach.
Lenny blinks away grit and radiator smoke that seems to be scratching at his eyes. He looks over to see Jimmy stirring, then turns to look at Mickey in the back seat, noting Manny’s open door. The gunman sits catatonic, his eyes wide open as the billowing chemical smoke from the radiator begins to choke Lenny’s lungs.
"I... I'm not sure I can carry you all the way out." 'It won't stop me from trying though.' Lenny thinks hoisting Mickey up under his arms and pulling until Mickey half falls half gets pulled out of the car.
"Please...

A shadow passes over Manny as a man with sallow, sunken eyes runs past him down the embankment. The man is dressed in ragged, torn clothes that seem more patch than original fabric. As he runs, water sloshes from a large bucket he is carrying. He runs up to the opening passenger side door grabbing Jimmy with one hand and pulling him out of the car. The man yells across the car at Lenny and Mickey, TURN IT OFF! His voice is raspy and weatherworn but his words are clear. The man runs to the front of the car where he sets down the bucket and moves to open the hood.
Manny, nursing bleeding forehead and aching arms, couldn't help but feel disappointment as Jimmy emerged unscathed.
He then remembered the cargo in the trunk.
We gotta get everything out of the car! He exclaimed as he stood a good distance away, just in case the Olds decided to blow.
he'd turned of the road, he could see that much, and the speed which he must have gone over the bank, he couldn't figure out for the life of him why he'd have been going that fast.
"What Happens Now?" he asks glad for once that Jimmy was around Mr. Mcbride would get all the blame when they got back, even though he hadn't been driving it'd be his fault he hadn't been driving, and he could make decisions for how they we're supposed to get out of this while Lenny focused on Mickey's health.

"I'm fine." he said, although still visibly shaken - not from the crash itself as most would presume, but from what he saw; what he thought he saw. He turned and as he came together snapped at him.
"What the hell Lenny! Was this the first time you sat behind a steering wheel or something?"
Hector Winney

The stranger steps back from the car, rubbing his face with a shaking hand. The group all sees the telltale signs, the bulbous red nose, chalky skin and slight shake of a hard drinker. He shifts nervously from foot to foot and averts your gazes, as if ready to bolt at the slightest noise. As Lenny and Jimmy focus on the man, they realize he was the one standing in the road just after the bridge.
Sorry… I… I thought you might buy my… fish… His speech is raspy and quiet and comes out stunted and slow. The man coughs and spits on the ground, furtively looking up at each of you seemingly hoping to salvage a sale.

He's been keeping it mostly as a keepsake from his younger days - before the war, and it gave him a bit of a hard time to cut the belt from the car.
As he removed the seatbelt he turned around and presented it to Jimmy, while he looked around for a spot to stash their stash, this poor sod or both.

He grabs his briefcase stuffed with paperwork, and his small suitcase with his spare shirts, underwear and socks.
The party clambers back up the embankment to the road and continues the walk to the east and their destination, Blackwater Creek.
