After saying goodbye to Mom, I slowly make my way through the room, looking for Knox. I text him back: Absolutely. Where are you?
But in case he doesn't see the text right away, I keep looking for him, heading back - again - to the hot tub to see if he might be there. He does have some water powers after all.
I sigh softly about missing out on the hot tub, but the idea of meeting up with Knox in his office is appealing enough that I immediately veer off in that direction.
On my way
While I head over, I reread his text. We can go home together. Home. Does he mean back to his apartment? What used to be our home? Gods, I hope so. I'd like to pretend it's ours again, even if it's just for a little while.
Your new ferret advisor appears at your shoulder again (was she there while you were dancing? you don't remember her being there...) "Juliet, you should not sneak off with Knox. He is responsible for managing this soiree! What if something goes amiss? Be wise. A quick tryst in his office would keep him near enough that he isn't derelict in his duties. There is much riding on this party that Dionysus will not forgive if it is ruined."
I jump a little when Galinthias speaks up. This is going to take some getting used to.
I frown at her warning. "All Dionysus cares about is making sure my mom is happy and impressed, and she's obviously enjoying her time here already. Everyone's getting along. What could go wrong?" I push the memory of the scorched mark on the floor where I burned in this very building at a not-so-dissimilar party myself after everything seemed to be going well.
"The last party here ended terribly for you, if I recall," Galinthias points out, not missing the chance to needle you with the truth. "As your advisor, I will agree to give you, ahem, private time here in the office with Knox. But you should not let him leave. You risk his employment here to slake your lust, and I believe you wanted him to work here? Instead of robbing safes and banks and the like. Or am I misinformed?"
I scowl a bit at Galinthias putting words to my own memories about the last party here. "I do want him to work here," I answer quickly. "It's safer than all that other stuff, of course. But...he's the god of Doors. We can literally get back here from anywhere in like two seconds if something goes wrong."
As you move to the office door to open it, Galinthias really lays into you, "What if there is an explosion, will you hear it? What if there is a gas leak, will you smell it? This is foolish, Juliet! You've had how many partners tonight already? Gods, I can still smell the semen drying in and on you. And you'd put all of this at risk for your primal urges."
I hesitate, my hand on the office door handle and jaw tight as Galinthias lists off things that probably aren't even going to happen. A gas leak? Really?
But then she calls out my earlier activities and my scowl deepens. "Just because the only place you're getting any is from a den of frelling ferrets doesn't mean you have the right to slut shame me," I hiss. "Now get off of me and leave me alone."
"I am not a ferret, you little pornìdion*!" Galinthias says in the most heated tone you've ever heard from her. Then, she bites your shoulder. It hurts, a sharp little pain like a triple bee sting.
Suddenly, you feel woozy and your whole shoulder burns. Then your eyes water and you're falling....
