Hey everyone! I'm Amy. I love it when experienced gamers take the time to make games for people who are new to a system. Horror is my favorite genre for film and games, and CoC is the most highly recommended system for horror. It's not popular enough among my friends and gaming groups, and I haven't had much luck finding a game online. Thank you so much for setting this up!

Most of my experience is with D&D 5e with some Pathfinder/Starfinder. I DM an online 5e PbP game and a biweekly in-person group. My latest project is writing homebrew Ravenloft adventures (love forcing horror into a system that just isn't built for it... /s) so I'm happy to have a chance to learn a system that was actually built for horror.

I am new to Gamersplane, I haven't played PbP on a forum in a very long time, so please bear with me. The UI looks good though! Much better than the sites I remember using!

I set these up every couple of months to introduce new players to the system (though the last one had the players so invested it lasted for three months!) I also run long form campaigns here, so if you enjoy the game and can tolerate my style of running the game, there is always an opportunity to jump into one.

I have played in a handful PBPs and really enjoyed it. Investigative horror is really exciting to me. I look forward to getting into the mystery with all of you.

Been playing TTRPGs since 2010, and have experience with D&D 3.5, D&D 5e, Pathfinder 1 & 2, Coriolis, The Strange, Old Gods of Appalachia, Vampire the Masquerade v5, Kids on Bikes. I have read rulebooks of many others, CoC included, but have never had the chance to actually play CoC. So I'm pretty stoked.

When would you like the sheets to be input and done?

Take as long as you need (though if we haven't started by this time next week, I might put a little pressure on)

If you need help on that, set up the blank sheet and apply it to the game. Once that part is done, I have access to it so can assist if needed.

Everyone should set Max Sanity to 99. This goes down as you earn Cthulhu Mythos points (a skill that starts at zero and you gain through reading tomes and losing sanity

Note you can also add an avatar to your character. Often CoC players grab old 1920's actor photos or use Midjourney, but feel free to use what you like.

@Knifesedgegames I am a little confused about skills! Do we add the occupation based skills that are on the sheets you provided to the base skills or do the new numbers replace the old ones?

In this case, replace them. If we weren't using pregens, you would have points to assign that you add to the default but here your skills are already set. If you don't have anything in a given skill, you will have the default number (often referred to as 'base')

It's a flavour thing (but might give you away in a situation where you're trying to stay quiet :)

Unfortunately DNDTossToss(Rosana) has decided to step out of the game as they're struggling to use Garmersplane. Rosana will remain for the moment as an NPC.

Lettie wants to do something illegal (take the book so it doesn't get bagged up as evidence). But she is not a criminal, nor would she ever do something like this in other circumstances... What kind of roll would I need for this?

A sleight of hand roll if you want to hide it on your person. As no one (aside from Jack) can see you, you will get a bonus die, rolling an additional d10 as the ‘tens’ and take the best result.

Alternatively you can use social skills to convince the police that the books are your property pursuade, charm, fast talk etc

This is getting frustrating! That's 3 dropouts, very unusual for these one shots, but we'll continue. I'll run the Cop as an NPC

I am running a 5e game atm and we've had five drop outs so far, I keep replacing players, there is only one of the original party left. It's definitely disheartening. :(

We'll soldier on. Hopefully the rest of you are invested enough to get this done!
